How gun control is already shaping the 2016 Democratic primary
The Week ^ | January 15, 2013 | Ryu Spaeth

This week, as lawmakers in Congress braced themselves for a protracted and impassioned debate over gun control, Democratic governors moved swiftly to push tough new gun laws in response to the school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo easily shepherded legislation through a divided state legislature to produce the strictest gun laws in the country. Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has proposed similarly stringent measures, including a ban on assault weapons, while Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has called for universal background checks on all gun sales.

And what do all three governors have in common (besides a strong desire to reform America's gun laws, of course)? They are all considered possible contenders for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.

In Cuomo's case, his White House aspirations are such an open secret that Republicans in New York are explicitly connecting the governor's gun-control efforts to his national political ambitions. "Why are we being bullied into voting on this bill without our proper, responsible due diligence?" asked state Assemblyman Steven Katz. "Solely due to the governor's misguided, egotistic notion that this will advance his presidential aspirations."

O'Malley wasn't spared either. "This looks like crass opportunism from politicians who want gun control," said Maryland House Minority Leader Anthony J. O'Donnell. "The reality is Martin O'Malley is trying to get to the left of Cuomo in New York because he wants to run for president in 2016."

Taking a liberal position on guns would surely boost both men's chances in a Democratic primary. Cuomo, who signed a gay marriage bill into law last year, would solidify his progressive credentials. O'Malley would strengthen his reputation for reducing crime, which he established in his previous job as the mayor of Baltimore...

Timing is everything. We’ll have to wait to see if there is any blowback to all this gun grabbing.

I don’t do recreational drugs so I wish these drug addicts with the “D” after their name would explain the difference between a background check and a “universal” background check. Does that mean they check all the other planets for criminal records too? Why not just do a “national” background check or an “international” background check. Just stay away from those “comprehensive” background checks. Anything that is “comprehensive” is really goofy and messed up.

Blowback? I’m expecting news of the gas-operated carrier kind any day now.

Cuomo will never be President unless he can learn NOT to sound just like Ray Romano.

He’ll have to find a way around Momma Jarrett or be prepared to fight her for the position! Momma J. thinks she IS the President! Now that will be interesting; she’s not going to let anyone get her throne and her crown away from her!

He doesn't understand that he is white. Obama can be a fascist because its cute when he does it, but a white democrat doing the same things would just put off the voters as just another democrat fascist.

Conservatives and supporters of the 2nd amendment the Obama regime is using the 2nd amendment argument to blame gun owners for its inability to deal with the hundreds of gangland murders and shootings commited in areas under their solid control using illegally obtained firearms. Their solution to those inner city problems is to remove those rights provided by the constitution to have and bear arms from all US citizens.

None of those 19 so called “reforms” and unconstitutional efforts being edicted by who some call an emporer do not deal with the following issues briefly outlined below . They won’t because instead of creating a uniformly democratic society where every citizen has an equal voice no matter what their race or ethnicity.

Their policies have grouped races and ethnic groups by gerrymandering congressional districts where much of this criminal activity occurs. GOPES {goverment of the people (republican party) elites} see this issue as a 3rd rail because most of it is black on black or illegal vs illegal (Mexican) activity . GOPES are also afraid to say that policy may have also increased racial tension but again GOPES accept this because of the influence of mainline socialist media which would be accusing them of “racism” if they dare to question it.

The following are links to New York publications the first is the New York Times

Revolutionary Language by C.M.Blow of the New York Times

As the ghouls swoop in on Blow’s inflamatory rhetoric promoted by The New York Times with directionless rebuttal or meaningless responses laughed at by its staffers. I’m.not even sure if a C.M.Blow is even listed on the NYT staff

I submit the purpose of this NYT article is to keep the right and conservatives focused on what the Demo-Coms describe as issues through their propaganda arm known as the MSM (mainline socialist media) not on the problems created by the “Libs” on their road of good intentions or the socialist/fascists/communists successors to comtrol over todays Democrat party :

Not one word in Blow’s NYT inflamatory contribution will address or offer a solution about the hundreds of gangland murders and shootings using illegaly obtained mostly handguns and revolvers .Not “assault weapons” which are really single shot per trigger pull rifles, used for small game hunting or target practice. That are made to look like their military counterpart. which by the way are small caliber and designed to wound not necessarilly kill which is why they are automatic and fire many rounds while the trigger is in the pulled position. .

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2977901/posts NY Post pix of shooter using handgun
Blow certainly can’t critique a system created by his ilk .Ignored by his publication is that when once caught, perps get set free with lenient sentencing from “liberal” judges or sob sister plea bargain prosecution promoted by The New York Times. There’s certainly no criticism of “no snitch” mentality partcularly in areas where these shootings are rampant.

What do you expect an honest look at the problem from The New York Times ? They’re incapable that’s why they’re going broke...Printing tripe from people like C.M.Blow

While attempting to deal with the latest diversion by the Demo-Coms who would if they had their druthers eliminate the constitution period not just the 2nd ammendment. Conservatives and defenders of the 2nd amendment should cite these issues mentioned here. Holding their fire and aim this when they see the whites of their eyes.

I don’t expect much registration compliance. Gun owners have seen this coming since Clinton and probably bought guns and ammo long ago. The massive buying now is just the late to the game people. When the government knows about how many guns are out there and almost none get turned in they will crap in their pants before claiming success and stopping gun raids.

So, maybe these background checks that supposedly weed out the mentally deranged could be used also as voting qualification...as long as we are “infringing” ya know. We don’t want crazy people who are too nuts to be trusted with a gun to be exercising their vote...who knows what sort of person they might vote in? Oh, too late I guess.

Democrats are pushing gun control hard and fast right now, because they don’t want to get near it come election day. There are lots of Democrats clinging to their guns. The tyrants of the left haven’t forgotten what the last assault weapons ban did to them at the polls. Idiots that Democrats are, the gun owners among them know Obama is lying when he says he doesn’t want to take their guns while he is doing everything he can to take their guns.

That is absolutely brilliant! I can say that honestly because I wish I had thought of it.

Well said. It’s too bad they’re going this way. Disregard of the law breeds disrespect for law. It’s just more phony stuhrm und drang from Barry.

If they do background checks like they do security checks at our airports, they will soon be up our rears looking for personal information that they have no right knowing. What is this country coming to? No amount of information would have prevented Jared Loughner, James Holmes, Adam Lanza, Andrew Golden, Mitchell Johnson, or Charles Whitman from their mass murders. There is one, Seung-Hui Cho, the Virginia Tech University shooter, who could have been stopped from his shooting rampage by his psychiatric diagnosis of selective mutism. However, Cho lied on his background check paperwork to purchase his 9mm Glock 19 semiautomatic pistol and Walther P22 semiautomatic pistol. All weapons were purchased legally.
