Creating gun laws is one thing, but convincing people to support them is something else. That was the job of Vice President Joe Biden on Friday, when he held a roundtable discussion on gun control in Virginia.
CBS 2s Mike Puccinelli reports new laws could be tough to sell at gun shows, like one held in suburban Rosemont on Friday. Organizers said it was the first gun show in Cook County in as many as 50 years.
Gun shows have come under increased scrutiny since the school shooting massacre in Newtown, Conn., because in the vast majority of states, gun sales at such shows are largely unregulated.
What will it take to move this nation when it comes to sensible gun laws? What will it take to move Congress when it comes to sensible gun laws? It took Newtown, Connecticut, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said.

Durbin reintroduced legislation designed to prohibit the sale of 157 military-style assault weapons.
People dont use assault weapons with 30- or 100-round magazines to go hunting, and they sure dont use them for self-defense, Durbin said...

Durbin is a fascist POS.
Depends on who you have to defend yourself against.
Why is it that we can't sue urinalists like this for lying, or else for criminal stupidity???
Aren't the 20,000 freakin laws we have now sensible enough? Damn, he's right!
Makes perfect sense 'cause Lanza got his guns at unregulated guns shows... no wait... Tell me the connection again?
“Durbin is a fascist POS.
And a Dick!
Civil War not too far off now.
This appears to be Feinstein’s gun grab bill that Turbin Durbin signed on as a co-sponsor.
When I first saw the headline, I thought it said ‘Darwin’.
Durbin is an assault weapon- he used to play “n___r polo” against blacks in East St Louis in his teen years with his buddies and the douche should have to submit to a waiting period before being allowed to pick up sticks.
Turbin = “Turban” Durbin.
Come to think of it, that may be why he likes the idea of regulating guns or banning them outright. So did the KKK.
Until the jack booted thugs at DHS and BATF are limited to 5 round mags they can STFU.
Semi auto carbines are militia arms. Precisely what the founding fathers intended the average citizen to own to discourage government tyranny. Because they believed, rightly so, that every able bodied adult was automatically part of the militia.
They also believed, again rightly so, that all governments will move toward tyranny unless sufficiently discouraged in advance. I would say that fear is being pretty well justified right now.
F Democrats....ALL OF THEM, INCLUDING my family members!
I never had a desire to own a semi-automatic rifle until now. It’s a shame the gun grabbers have driven up prices. The more the statists push for control, the more I want freedom.
Princess Leia: The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin (Durbin), the more star systems (guns) will slip through your fingers.
Buying semi automatics can be fun for the whole family! Give it a try.
Mr. Dream Act won’t insist on protecting Americans from foreign invasion by enforcing our laws, but he will present BS laws to eat out our substance.
Yep, it’s coming. People get ready.
Make it a Family Affair!
Too bad prices are through the roof so to speak. In a way, I appreciate the gun grabbers. The left was doing an bangup job of hiding how radical they truly are. Now they’re out in the open. Oh, they still pay lip service to the constitution and the rule of law (for now), but it’s obvious they mean to create a totalitarian state. They want to control it all, except sodomy and abortion of course. What we eat and drink, how cold or hot are our homes, where we live, etc. There is very little they don’t want to regulate, and the choice between freedom or servitude is becoming clearer and clearer every day.
If I didn’t know better I would swear that bill was written by Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot or some other despicable leftist tyrant.
Durbin voted against the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq in Oct. 2002.
During the 2002 debate over the resolution giving President Bush the authority to use military force against Iraq, then House Minority Whip Durbin proposed an amendment (S.AMDT.4865) requiring that an "imminent" threat be present before turning to force. Opponents believed this language was too restrictive and that the president ought to have the right to use force in the face of a "continuing" threat from Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. The amendment failed 30-70. Main article: Congressional actions on the Iraq War prior to the 2003 U.S. invasion
In 2003, during the debate over the FY2004 Defense Appropriations bill, Durbin introduced an amendment (S.AMDT.1277) to withhold $50 million in intelligence funding until President Bush submitted a report explaining how his administration handled the intelligence leading up to the Iraq War. Supporters argued that the measure would force the administration to be accountable for intelligence used to justify the war. Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) joined every other Senate Republican in opposing the amendment, tabling the measure. He called it "nitpicking" by the Democrats and argued that "history shows clearly that Iraq has tried to acquire and did acquire nuclear capability in the past."
Durbin is an assult weapon!!!
He’s a constant assult on the Constitution!
ObamAlQaeda was in a cold war and is now overtly nearly attacking us.
“Durbin is a fascist POS.”
He was ever thus.
“Civil War not too far off now.”
I have heard similar sentiments an awful lot lately, from a wide range of sources. When such sentiments are so common, the subject is no longer far-fetched.
“When Injustice becomes Law, Resistance becomes Duty.”
“When Injustice becomes Law, Resistance becomes Duty.”
The primary purpose of the 2nd Amendment is so the People would be able to defend themselves asgainst tyrants like Dick Durbin. The Founders were VERY clear about that. Hell, even Democrat heroes such as JFK and Hubert Humphrey acknowledged that.
They don’t call him Turban Durbin for nothing.
I am waiting to see what happens in New York.
I expect massive resistance there.
Did he pull a Feinstein and tell us that he was actually “protecting” our rights to over 2,000 other weapons?
Sen. Durbin can run in 2014, and Chad Koppie, a conservative Republcian, told me that he’ll run, in that race. Chad is pro-gun rights, pro-life, pro-tax cuts, pro-spending cuts, and anti-illegal alien. His blog is chadkoppiescampaign.blogspot.com.
sorry phil, but i can’t imagine him doing a whit better than the last three times he’s run ... a perennial nobody going nowhere
My point exactly.
Which Republican should run against Sen. Durbin? The other three times that Chad ran for the U.S. Senate, he ran as a third-party candidate. In 2014, he’ll run as a Republican, so he has a better chance of winning.
Roskam, Hultgtren, Schock, Kinsinger ... just about any of the "young guard", as opposed to a calcified fossil.
I think that Rep. Roskam would be the best candidate, against Sen. Durbin, but Roskam said that he won’t run, in that race.
