Why Fox News dropped Sarah Palin [Palin dropped Fox]
The Christain Science Monitor ^ | January 26, 2013 | Brad Knickerbocker

When the history of US politics in the early 21st century is written, two figures will stand out: Barack Obama and Sarah Palin.

The election of Mr. Obama to the highest elective office – the first African-American to win the presidency – did not necessarily signal a new era of post-racial politics. But coming just a generation after federal troops in the South (and a federal judge in Boston) were necessary to desegregate public schools, it was a huge milestone.

Sarah Palin was not the first woman to win a major political party’s vice presidential nomination; that was US Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, Walter Mondale’s running mate way back in 1984.

But the presence of the former Alaska governor on the GOP ticket headed by Sen. John McCain in 2008 invigorated the party – at the time, at least. And although they lost to Obama and Joe Biden, it wasn’t the blowout that Mondale and Ferraro suffered against Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.

Ferraro went on to relative political obscurity, twice losing Democratic Party primaries for the US Senate. Ms. Palin, on the other hand, was just getting started when the returns for the 2008 presidential race were being counted.

Over the next few years, she became a political force of nature – stirring a tea party base that thronged to her appearances, scaring GOP incumbents deemed too willing to find common ground with Democrats, and building a very lucrative business that included (for one season, at least) her own “reality” TV show while launching one of her five children – daughter Bristol – on her own entertainment career.

Meanwhile, as with some other conservative ex-elected officials like Mike Huckabee, Palin was given a sinecure of sorts as a commentator for Fox News...

Like I have been saying for a while, she doesn’t need Fox News..they never defended her after Tuscon, they never defended her during the ridiculous smears she is always receiving..Ailes wanted to mold her into someone she is not..she is better off without Fox News

Needed to read all the way to the end to find out that FOX did not get rid of her. She is said to have rejected a contract renewal with a cut in pay. If true, she got rid of FOX and good riddance. FOX/Kucinich Network is dead to me.

I really don’t have a problem with Kucinich.

FOX has moderates, liberals, blacks, caucasians...why not someone to speak for the 'saucer people'?

Yeah. I don’t have that problem with Fox. I don’t watch the brainless twits (whoa almost slipped there) in the morning.

I don’t watch tv in the afternoon either and I purposely skip Sheep Smith.

But we do record and watch Bret Bair’s News Hour, just ‘cause it provides a glance at how Washington views what it’s up to each day, and with a reasonably conservative thrust to it.

I watch O’Reilly sometimes just for entertainment value. And that’s the attitude I bring to Fox: they are not in business to agree with me on every point, they are not in business to advance the conservative agenda, they are not an arm (obviously) of the Tea Party.

They do what they do to make money and, by God, they do do that....plus they bring me and others some useful conservative commentary and I appreciate that.

So they offered her an extension with a huge salary cut.

You don't know that - just your way of seeing things and you wanted to share your revelation - which means nothing!

I bet you never thought they offered her more and she already made up her mind she was leaving once her contract was up.

Ailes wanted to mold Sarah into someone she was not, a RINO clone of Romney and she wanted no part of it..she made the right choice

You're partially right, SB. When Ailes hired her in 2009, there was every indication that she was going to run for President and might actually win. He thought that he could play queen-maker and shape her into his very own Eliza Doolittle. however, like the Corrupt Bastards Club in Alaska before him, he found out that Palin could not be controlled, and so he found himself "stuck" with her for the duration of her three-year contract. It's been obvious for some time that he's been actively trying to get rid of her, without actually firing her himself, by trying to goad her into breaking her contract on her own.

when her contract came up to renewal, he only offered her a a new contract with an insultingly large pay cut

OR

She already planned on leaving. Why is it, some automatically think she left because of a pay cut. Show me anywhere SARAH was all about money. She known as a giver not taker and she doesn't toot her own horn.

Your absolutely right, you said exactly what has been going on..once Sarah realized what was going on the relationship between her and Ailes became strained..she has hardly been on Fox anyway, once in a blue moon..O’Reilly acted like an ass when she was on his show..that was probably Ailes doing too, try to make her feel as uncomfortable as possible so that she would not want to come back

Well, for all intents and purposes, it WAS her job, and Ailes had been dumping on her for a long time. A new contract with a ridiculously lower "take-it-or-leave-it" $$$$ figure would essentially leave her in a very awkward "marked-down" position, and so she walked (like Ailes expected).

With that said, i think that she's been wanting out of her contract for a long time now, and this was the opportunity both sides had been waiting for to part ways without incurring any damage.

I swear, Sarah could say that the sky is blue and they would STILL report that she said rocks are soft. And you’re right. Liberals CAN’T read (or write, or talk, etc.)

BTW, did you take the test? I guess I don’t know Sarah as well as I thought. Only got 8 right :(

Yeah, remember when she had to divert her One Nation bus tour from Gettysburg to New York when he demanded an immediate meeting to find out what she was up to? Leaked stories at the time suggested that the meeting was very tense and that Ailes was not at all happy with her, and that the Palins returned his arrogance with well-deserved scorn.

It was a straight question. Will she run for the Senate from her own state of Alaska, or will she establish residence in Arizona, where she also has a home, and run from there?

Or maybe she's had her fill of electoral politics altogether?

...all evidence to the contrary. I'd be happy to hear her take the Oath, but Sarah's main role has been and will probably continue to be to draw fire.
