Youll shoot your eye out kid!
Or at least thats what one Assemblywoman must believe of children that attend gun shows with their family.
Linda Rosenthal (D) has introduced a new bill that would ban children under 12 from attending a gun show in New York state.
Via the Times Union (the sarcasm is fantastic):
The bill was put forward by Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, who hails from that trackless wilderness and sportsmens paradise known as Manhattan.
Children should be learning to read and write, not to shoot a firearm, Rosenthal says in a statement, as if the two skills were mutually exclusive. Today in New York State, however, a child of any age can gain unfettered access to gun shows. We as a society have placed reasonable restrictions on the ages at which children may watch violent films clearly, Rosenthal does not have premium cable or play video games that involve hyper-real gunplay; however, there are no age limits on gun shows. My bill will change that.
Rosenthal, a Democrat, noted Attorney General Eric Schneidermans announcement that more gun shows have signed on to his procedural code to strengthen enforcement of existing rules to prevent straw purchases and other violations.
Along with enhanced procedures for gun show background checks, age restrictions will ensure that children are exposed to guns only after they reach an age where they are capable of grasping the enormity of responsibility gun handling and ownership represents, said Rosenthal.
Say, Ms. Rosenthal. You represent the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. You mentioned that children should be learning to read and write. You know where children find it very difficult to read and write? Thats right
in your home town!

OMG She looks like a younger version of Helen Thomas ..ugh
Mam, in 6 short years that 12 year old could be in some foreign shithole like Afghanistan getting shot at by muslims.
Nothing wrong with them being at a gun show now!
Someone should introduce a bill prohibiting the same age children from being taught about sex, going to the movies, taught to read, etc., just to show the idiocy of it all.
There were always a few tables full of odds and ends and one of them had a bunch of glass "jewels" shaped like hearts and moons and such. She picked out a few and I bought them for her, which made her quite happy.
She gave me one, on the spot--a pink glass heart, which I carry to this day.
It reminds me that the love of a child is pure, durable, and transparent, but their hearts can be broken. It is also a reminder of the trust and strength there, and even as she enters her teen years, we remain close. (I taught her to shoot a few years later).
Now, I wouldn't trade that for all the tea in China, nor would I wish that anyone in the future be deprived of the opportunity to have a similar experience.
It isn't just about guns, but she has been pestering me to pick up an AR-15 just so she can shoot it, and has her eye on a couple of pistols for when she gets old enough...
That's my girl!
That is one ugly SLUNT.
Man... the kool-aid must come out of the tap in NY...based on the level of monnbattery coming out of there....
This shows the folly of allowing unconstitutional laws to remain enforced in the states. The orgainzed crime boss big Tim Sullivan got the Sullivan law passed in 1911 to protect his criminal associates. It made it very difficult for a New Yorker to have a pistol. Now, after a hundred years, the New York population is full of people who cannot imagine that anyone, anywhere should be routinely allowed to be armed. Millions of immigrants to New York have been indoctrinated with the idea that the Constitution does not really mean anything. After all, look at the Second Amendment! Basic gun safety and shooting classes should be at least as common in the schools as drivers education.
We debarked from our DHC-5 Buffalo at a forward airstrip near the joint Army-Navy base at Dong Tam. The Army SFC told me and the other Navy replacements to throw our sea bags in the trailer and climb aboard the 2-1/2 ton truck, He told us to grab a steel pot, flak jacket, and M16A1. All the guys with me were administrative types and had never seen an M16. I had to give these guys a fast weapons handling in the field lecture before we got underway. Fortunately, my familiarly with the AR-15 got me through this because the Navy hadn't trained me on this rifle.
