Senate cloture vote tells us one thing: the GOP as a national party is dead
Protein Wisdom ^ | April 11, 2013 | Jeff Goldstein

As some Newtown families, props being used by the very gun grabbers who have set up the kinds of gun-free shooting galleries in which their children were slain, held hands and prayed for more than 60 votes (having been flown in at taxpayer expense to lobby our representatives to take away our natural rights), it occurred to me that, with 16 Republicans voting that a debate on amending an unalienable right is perfectly in keeping with the Constitution, the Republican party then and there died. Went t*ts up. Ceased to be.

If John McCain and Lindsay Graham and Lamar Alexander are in your party — and carry much weight in that party — you are in the wrong party.

Those pictures of the Newtown parents are why we have an amendment process in the first place. It makes demagoguery difficult. It puts time and space between a ginned up mob and extensive deliberation, something that we no longer engage in — with at least one bill to be voted on not yet released to the public in legislative language.

So. I proposed this half-seriously back in 2008-9, but it’s now time to reintroduce it in earnest: the time has come for a third party. Now, that third party may lose, at least initially, but at least those who join it can point, laugh, and say I told you so. If we’re going to lose anyway — and at this point, a vote for either national party is a losing proposition — we may as well do so with our integrity intact.

Plus, those who join? We’ll know are, for the most part, our natural political allies.....

That bill is dead. They forced them to vote on an amendment that wouldn't pass. The main bill won't even get to the Senate floor.

Jeff misses the boat here ~ the dispute among Senate Republicans was the head count ~ apparently there were going to be 4 more Democrats the Republicans could count on than even Mitch McConnell could find.

Then there were a group of Dems and Reps who never did like the filibuster and still don't like it ~ they tend to vote together on that question.

Actually, unless they want to democratize the Senate we are much better off with a permanent super majority vote requirement for every item on the agenda.

I disagree. I refuse to believe that in the future all the presidents will be Democrats.

We need to elect a republican president to keep traditional marriage, support religous freedom, slow down abortion on demand and to keep all of us from paying 50% in taxes.

We will have a Republican president in 2016 and I don’t care if it is Rubio, Jeb or Palin. I just want them to stop the slide that the Democrats have put America on.

So? How is Boehner to the right of Pelosi? I haven't seen it. He's fin with background checks, amnesty, new taxes, Obamacare implementation, spending, weakening the military, carte blanche for any idea the regime wants, etc. Who can tell the difference?

Ross Perot proved that a well funded third party with a well known high profile candidate can garner about 20% of the vote.
(BJ Clinton was certainly in favor of it)

The GOP as a party for Conservatives is dead.

It has been infiltrated and now run by Ruling Class Statists doing the bidding of the Leftists who are dismantling the Republic before our eyes.

The GOP Elites disdain and hate Conservatives as much as the MarxoFascists do - and if they did not need the Conservative vote to win elections, they would be as vicious in their demonization of us as Obama’s drones are.

No - the GOP are become nothing but a a party to helping the MarxoFascists achieve their utopian dreams, including assisting them in marginalizing and rendering irrelevant, Conservatives and Conservatism.

If Conservatives do NOT go third party - then Conservatism itself, will go the way of the Whigs and be an underground, persecuted belief system that few will dare to speak our principles openly.

See Wallace, George, 1968. He actually won 5 states and 46 electoral votes.

Let me rephrase the title of this post:

Senate cloture vote tells us one thing: the GOP as a national party that will stand up for the ideals and principles of true conservatism is dead.

A third party, while admirable, will not help in the short term, which is where the help is most needed.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, nothing short of going to Washington, DC and dragging every single senator and congressman, and yes, the president too (he is not exempt) from their offices and throwing them out into the street will save this nation.

Call it what you will, but it's the only way to end the era of an incompetent government.

We could try a “Pat Robertson in Iowa 1988” writ large, taking over the party at the precinct level nationwide and if that doesn’t work, go with your suggestion. Time is running out, though.

The Republican Party as a separate entity fizzled out sometime after the Reagan administration. What is now called “The Republican Party” is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party and its purpose is to provide a theatrical but noneffective facade of an Opposition.

Palin is irrelevant in 2016, Jeb Bush is the nominee. He is next in line.

Why not? They have all been essentially Democrats since Ronald Reagan. What is a Progressive Republican but a Democrat who claims to be more sensible? The cliff they aim to take us over is the same.
