The Poisoned Chalice
Belmont Club ^ | 5-17-2013 | Richard Fernandez

Things will probably have to get a whole lot worse before a critical mass of voters choose the path of despair that the National Journal warns against: the point where they exit the game.

The difficulty is that the restraint does not so far seem symmetric. What is perhaps most disturbing is the sheer effrontery of the administration. They seem unabashed and oblivious to the damage they are causing. They are telling lies that nobody can be expected to believe, almost as if the stranger hiding under the marital bed explains that he’s looking for change he dropped there. He doesn’t actually expect you to believe it. What he wants to know is whether you’re man enough to call him on it.

There is still some way to go until things become crystal clear; a brief space in which to make certain about what is really going on. Like a scan or ultrasound or biopsy you’re waiting on. For once we know the knowledge will bind us. There are dangerous lines to cross, which once traversed make it is hard to go back. Would that the administration’s minions had thought that way. The structures of the Republic were designed to make stark choices unnecessary. Permanent power is a chalice no one should want to drink from. Once that cup is tasted something very wicked this way comes.

A very precious commodity — mutual trust — is at risk in the coming days. If it is trashed and expended, it will be a long time rebuilding it again. We rarely know the value of what we have until we lose it.

The absolute last straw would be for the Republicans to decide this is the time to push for more 'Bipartisan' anything that is designed to hurt this country (not only hurt their own party), thinking public attention had been diverted elsewhere.

That it is still the same old 'DC insider game' to the GOP-E, that they continue to pretend their Democrat colleagues are still worthy partners in trust and dealings.

Watch out for more (and stealthier) 'Gang of Something' in both Houses....

I’m with Jeannine Pirro — the government has lost my trust completely; and I’m teary over it. We need a new broom to sweep out the corruption.

I was wondering when the author was going to get to the point. Well, he did, and did it well. Overwhelm white, patriotic America with mexicans and muzzies and the game is over.

And.....For decades willing white fathers have allowed their children to be brainwashed by the Marxists/Progressives in the nation's schools from pre-K through graduate school.

Most of Wretchard’s articles are like this.

Not for a quick consumption, you can't speed read or glance through skipping every other word.

Lots of gems to pick from, but quite often not suited to link to from FR.

Disagree completely. An entirely cowardly piece:

"The key problem for the Republican Party — and also for conservatives of a whole — is deciding what they’re seeing."

WHO the hell on our side doesn't KNOW what we're seeing?

He spends hundreds of words dancing around – and ultimately NOT telling — the truth. Which is: This is tyranny, and we must fight.

I think it's pretty clear, at least to me, they are going for "gone for for big brass ring. Gone for world domination"

Obama already has implemented many political and social strategies to steal the Congressional House and retain the Senate by hook or crook...

They are turning the underclass into a political class..

>>> This is tyranny, and we must fight.

Because, the way we (most conservatives) see it, it is probably too late to try to save the current Republic as is. Yet more others see it fighting in a different way, we should respect different view points.

Also you need to consider Wretchard’s background (he had the experience, he lived through one) - MOST of the Americans, even most of the conservatives, don't know what it is like to fight a resistance fight/war.

Absolutely nobody wants a real civil / revolution war.
