Chris Christie slams libertarians over national security
970 WFLA ^ | 7/26/13 | Jason Howerton

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Thursday took a big swing at libertarian-leaning lawmakers in both parties, calling the ideology, when applied to national security, “a very dangerous thought.” His comments come just one day after the House narrowly rejected a sweeping amendment to defund the National Security Agency’s surveillance program.

Addressing the bipartisan coalition that joined together to nearly push the so-called Amash amendment through, Christie told lawmakers who harbor libertarian views on the issue to explain their position to the victims of 9/11, the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake reports. He also included Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) in his critique.

“As a former prosecutor who was appointed by President George W. Bush on Sept. 10, 2001, I just want us to be really cautious, because this strain of libertarianism that’s going through both parties right now and making big headlines, I think, is a very dangerous thought,” Christie said.

The governor proceeded to use an emotional argument to make his case, inviting “any one of them that’s engaged in this” apparently dangerous “strain of libertarianism” to come to New Jersey and “sit across from the widows and the orphans and have that conversation.”

“I’m very nervous about the direction this is moving in,” Christie added.

What about the raging debate regarding the balancing of privacy and national security? Some of that debate is “esoteric,” according to Christie.

He had kind words to say about the national security strategies of both President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush.

“Do we have amnesia?” the New Jersey Republican asked. “Because I don’t. And I remember what we felt like on Sept. 12, 2001.”

Christie made the comments while attending the Republican Governors Association’s summer meeting in Aspen, Colo.

No, Krispy Kreme, WE'RE very nervous over the the way things are done at the NSA. We need national security and intelligence gathering, but it must be balanced with our G-D given rights. Perhaps the Gov should be more concerned with laying off those "rippers" at Rutt's Hut and drop some weight?

Christie needs to reread the 4th Amendment!

I find it amusing how the idea of liberty is, to a statist, a very dangerous thought that makes them nervous.

“Because I don’t. And I remember what we felt like on Sept. 12, 2001.”

Me too. I felt like killing muslims. Specifically Saudis. What I didn't feel like having my freedoms curtailed, being spied on 24/7, having perverts grope little children in airports, and being called a racist for correctly pointing out that islam the enemy.

come to New Jersey and “sit across from the widows and the orphans and have that conversation.”

Yep, and tell the widows and the orphans that all their phone calls and internet activity are now being recorded for their own safety.

Tell them that the constitution is no longer valid because some people are pissing in their pants afraid of the muslim savages.

The fat boy is obviously not very bright. But I'm actually glad that he is making this argument because it will make it easier to defeat him.

He’s pretty limber for a big fella. You wouldn’t expect a big guy like that to be capable of shoving his head that far up his own ass.

The NSA listened to the Russian pricks who blew up Boston. Didn’t help much did it?

He needs to read the whole document, repeatedly, until he can recite it from memory.

Put down the Twinkie, Jabba, and tell me where the authority exists per the Constitution. Another dipshit with a (R) after their name that seems to think they don’t work for the Citizens of their State after election, or are more intelligent since they are in office.

Indeed. After Pearl Harbor, we did not go into a defensive mode and try to protect ourselves through enhanced security. Instead, we reached out and showed the world that it is a very, very bad idea to attack America.

We should have done that on 9/12. Should have taken out a few cities that were already on a list of “nice to eliminate” and then we should have announced that our second list of cities included Mecca and Medina and that further attacks by terrorists would be a very, very, very bad idea.

We have tried very hard to be the most powerful nation on earth. And we are. But we are afraid of ourselves and we no longer seem to have the guts to act like what we are. You want security? We spend $500B a year on “security”. But it won’t help unless we use it in the way it was intended — and “nation building” is not what it was intended to do.

We’ve been fighting a war for over 10 years and what do we have to show for it? Loss of our own freedom, and not much more. The guys living in caves seem to have won.

Hey, if you don’t have anything to hide, why you so worried?

(Is a /sarc tag actually necessary? Dammit, I guess it is these days.)

Buzz off, Christie.

What a fool. They cannot even listen to Mosques. And if they do get wind of terrorist activity, (the Chechens Russia warned them about), they do nothing to stop the terrorist attack. How are they gonna stop any terrorism at all crispy creme ?

Not JUST put Mecca and Medina on the Tier 2 target list, but promise the dirtiest possible bombs, that the entire AREA will be lethal for decades to come. . .

My tier 1 target would have been ONE bomb.

Medium-large nuke, dropped into the water about a mile behind the Aswan High Dam. Let a boiling, radioactive flood scour the entire Nile Valley clean. And then remind them that was ONE, MEDIUM bomb. And just smile. . .

2008: When serving as U.S. attorney for New Jersey, Christie embraced and kissed Mohammed Qatanani, imam of the Islamic Center of Passaic County, and praised him as “a man of great goodwill.” He did this after Qatanani had publicly ranted against Jews and in support of funding Hamas, a U.S. government–designated terror organization, ..."

Why doesn't Chris Christie ....“sit across from the widows and the orphans and have that conversation.”

2011: Christie appointed an Islamist, Sohail Mohammed, to the New Jersey state superior court. Mohammed’s record includes serving as general counsel to the American Muslim Union (which has stated that a “Zionist Commando Orchestrated The 9-11 Terrorist Attacks”),

Why doesn't Chris Christie ....“sit across from the widows and the orphans and have that conversation.”

2012: The revelation that the New York Police Department had conducted surveillance of Islamists in the New Jersey towns of Newark and New Brunswick prompted not gratitude but outrage from Christie, who termed the action arrogant and paranoid while mocking NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly as “all knowing, all seeing.”

Why doesn't Chris Christie ....“sit across from the widows and the orphans and have that conversation.”

Hey, if you don’t have anything to hide, why you so worried?

I heard someone say that just this morning. They were dead serious. Of course, living in MA, I can't say I'm surprised.

So, the 4th Amendment is just a loony libertarian idea?

Someone should put helium in his donuts and use Christie for a border patrol blimp.

The House voted in an amendment the other night that refused funds form any military aid to Syria that doesn’t first get congressional approval.

I thought it was a great idea.

Christie probably wants to put Al Qaeda in charge in Syria, same as Obama, McCain, Graham, and the conquest-of-the-world-for-jihadism group in Congress.
