McCain On Palin: ‘She Excited Our Base’ In A Way I Couldn’t
Talking Points Memo ^ | July 31, 2013 | Catherine Thompson

Posted on 07/31/2013 8:57:48 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In a wide-ranging interview with The New Republic published Tuesday, Sen John McCain (R-AZ) praised former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, his running mate in the 2008 presidential race, for "exciting" the GOP base in a way the senator couldn't achieve.

Asked if it "bothered" him when people said his legacy was choosing Palin as his running mate in 2008, McCain said "no."

"We were four points down when I chose her and three points up afterwards," he told the magazine. "She held her own and, some people said, won a debate with the vice president. She did everything I ever wanted. She excited our base in a way I was unable to achieve."

"We were four points down when I chose her and three points up afterwards," he told the magazine.

THAT is saying ALOT, considering the albatross Sarah had with McShame.

"She held her own and...She excited our base in a way I was unable to achieve."

What about this does the GOPe not get?

If McCain had any principles, adhering to his oath of office, he would understand this.

It is not ‘star power’ or some mysterious “mythical power Nobama didn't have”.

And the old doddering fool will never get it.

You guys be sure and get in line to buy her next book. Because you’re dreaming if you thing she’ll run for office again. But if you’re just dieing to hear her talk, just wait until mccain’s funeral. I’m sure she’ll have a lot praise for him.

One more time, lenth of time has nothing to do with anything. It would be funny if Palin signed on here under a screen name and you jumped her because she’s a “newb”. That is so childish.

She excited our base in a way

Your base, John? "Mavericks" have no base. Political traitors have no "base".

She brought her base with her.

Anyone voting for that ticket was voting for Palin, hoping old Pappy would croak!

That's what I was hoping for.

I was not aware of her actually campaigning for McCain.

What did she do on his behalf, other than to state she was endorsing him?

Did I miss all of her campaign appearances and speeches for McCain?

Do tell...

You are close enough to Palin to know what her future holds?

WOW!

What is the stock market going to do tomorrow, say before noon?

Do you have insider information about her continuing support for McCain and the policies he espouses?

Do tell!

She actually, physically, for real campaigned for McCain. Did you miss any of her speeches? How the hell do I know? I don’t really care that much about you so why would I care. But I’ll try to remember your name so I can see the posts you make when she burns you.

Do I know what she’s thinking? Yes, I do. She’s thinking “How many books can I sell and how much money can I make this year? And did my agent call?” Prove to me that’s NOT what she’s thinking. Then after a while you’ll understand the meaning of the word “opinion” and not everyone shares yours.

I don’t know the stock market. But I know politicians. They’re all for sale.

You are one who makes derogatory and disparaging assertions without facts to back them up. Your answer proves my point.

I have no expectations one way or the other about Palin, and she can do as she chooses with or without my blessing.

Fortunately, Sarah Palin decides when to respond and what to say, not the rest of us.

I know I have enough to decide what I should do, and would not relish the idea of dictating to others what they must do and say and when.

She is the master of her own fate, and should make the judgments she feels appropriate. I would hope that others would grant me the same latitude.

Of all the politicians in the market today, it seems everyone feels some sense of ownership of Sarah Palin, in that they are always giving advice as to what she should be doing and saying at any given time about any given subject.

Why is she the only one that garners that kind of attention and efforts to control her?

Why is she the only one that makes people so upset when she does not conform to their precise personal wishes?

I like her judgment the way it is, and if she became the marionette of the political chattering class, then she would not be who she is, she would be a marionette of the political chattering class.

I for one am glad she did not have a successful election with this Manchurian asshat McCain, as she would never have been heard from again as VP under the first Republicrat administration.

I think McCain is doing a fine job of crapping in his own nest without any encouragement, and for others to interfere would only distract from what others are saying and thinking about him now.

I’m willing to allow her her private thoughts about whether her endorsement was matter of honor, and whether she wishes she would not have been so honor-bound.

Unfortunately, you and people of your ilk are not willing to wait to pass judgment, and continue to spit and spew like spurned lovers.

McCain brought in Sarah Palin to “excite the base” meaning she was a tool being used by the GOP-E political machine to hustle the grassroots.

No surprise here.....

I’m one to make disparaging remarks? Not against you and “your ilk”.

I’m not telling Sarah Palin what to do. I’m saying I won’t support her as long as she supports mccain. You’re the one who seemed to take it personal.

People who penalize others for non-compliance with minor matters are controlling SOBs, especially when they don’t know what the thought process is for someone like Sarah Palin.

Why did you place quotes in “your ilk?”

Up yours.
