Video: Rachel Maddow on "wave of fear" caused by gun-control politicos' recall loss
The Denver Westword ^ | September 12, 2013 | Michael Roberts

If you see the Independence Institute's Jon Caldara smiling today, here's one likely reason: He provided the de facto name for the lead segment on Rachel Maddow's MSNBC show last night. Sitting to the side of a continental-U.S. map plastered with the Caldara-uttered phrase "Wave of Fear," Maddow explored the recall election defeats of John Morse and Angela Giron over their support of gun-control legislation. Along the way, she featured a clip of Caldara at the lectern and politically incorrect graphics courtesy of the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners. See it all below.

Following an introduction noting that her program is celebrating its fifth anniversary this week, Maddow took up the topic of recall elections in general, noting that until recently, officials targeted for ouster usually had committed crimes or other forms of malfeasance. In contrast, the Morse-Giron matter was prompted by ideological disagreements with organizations powerful enough to trigger a recall. Moreover, she went on, these groups understand that such efforts have a high likelihood of success, since special elections tend to attract relatively small turnouts dominated by older, more conservative voters.

To illustrate this growing trend, Maddow inserted a Caldara video that appeared on Colorado Pols last month. Note the "wave of fear" line visible in this screen capture:

Caldara wasn't the only local Second Amendment fan to get attention from Maddow. Also spotlighted, albeit not by name, was Dudley Brown, executive director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, who posted a couple of images on the RMGO Facebook page that left the host slack-jawed. Here's one of the graphics Maddow displayed....

...and here's a second:

Somehow, though, she neglected to include the third part of the triptych:

To comment on the apparent rise of recall-mania, Maddow turned to Steve Schmidt, an MSNBC regular who previously oversaw the 2008 McCain-Palin campaign. Schmidt correctly pointed out that Morse, in particular, was vulnerable to the recall strategy because he represented Colorado Springs, one of the most conservative areas in the state (and the country, for that matter). But even he seemed disturbed by the idea that special interests could essentially undo elections not to their liking via expensive recalls and suggested that reforms may be in order if the concept begins to spread.

Check out the complete segment below.

Way to go RMGO. A great Colorado pro-gun organization. Good job as usual, Dudley!

Strange, I don’t remember the Left being bent out of shape over the attempted recall of the Wisconsin governor (for political reasons)...

Oh so now it is the fault of special interests for the recall? They wouldn’t be talking about bloomberg’s anti gun group by chance? Because the proponents I read about were actually residents that weren’t being represented or listened too.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and listen to the lamentations of their MSNBC hosts...

Only to liberals is the installation of a totalitarian state by the removal of civil rights not an act of malfeasance.

To the rest of us it is a crime against humanity.

Angela Giron is no longer a wise Latina woman.

According to Maddow she deserved to be a state Senator because 100 of 112 justices were white guys.

I recall the big Tea Party march on DC several years ago. Some of the estimates based on crowd pix put it at roughly a million people. A MSM reporter stood on a corner as that crowd passed by and reported that “thousands” marched.

It seems the same denial-journalism was at work during yesterday’s motorcycle gathering at DC, where it was motorcycles as far as the eye could see and yet it was almost a non-event.

I think these are all related in a way to the recent recall vote in Colorado. My take is that most Americans don’t have time to get involved in politics but when you rub them the wrong way, they will take the time and the government-class (and their running dog lackies in the media) can get pretty unsettled when the little people get uppity, especially when they get uppity in by the millions.

I'm just one single pixel of a wave of fear among the "woods" being randomly targeted by the Sons Of Obama, one of whom was dealt an early death in NYC last week.

I wonder if Ms. Maddow will notice.

True, Morse is from Colorado Springs, but he was redistricted and has, or had, the Colorado College campus and neighborhood, and Manitou Springs, which has an artists colony. In other words, he had in his district the most liberal areas of the Springs.

No you don’t. You know she won’t—until one of her relatives is mugged or raped.

Looks like a redistricting effort will begin before too long.

Clearly Co. politicians should be able to “select” their constituents in order to advance policies that they care about.

So which one is Scott Walker guilty of crimes or malfeasance? - or just maybe enacting laws liberals hate.

Liberals, Democrats , leftist can't win in a fair battle or lose fair always it's for some other reason but them.
This must be their new motto and propaganda.... if they lose ? it's because of fear and intimidation from the other side just like the Million Muslim March thugs who had to change the name of their event to American's against fear.

Guess what leftist ? liberals ? democrats ? MSM ? we don't care what you have to say anymore and we are not afraid to say it now.

Liberals, Democrats, Leftist, MSM can't win or lose in a fair battle so they have to blame it on something or someone else.

That's the exact point. It's their tactic - and apparently it's copyrighted. :)

Dudley was initially against the recalls. But as soon as the ballots were approved he jumped in with both feet and did a fine job of helping, as usual.

I was with RMGO when we all got elected as delegates so we could boo Governor Gun Control (Bill Owens) off the stage at the Colorado republican convention. A fine day, he left without making a speech!
