The Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, has a curious habit of pulling despairing faces when marching his divided troops into battle.
As he marched them back again on Wednesday, exhausted and bedraggled by their failed attempt to hold President Obama to ransom over his healthcare reforms, there is much of the same eye-rolling that characterised the start of their reluctant campaign. “We fought the good fight. We just didn’t win,” he told a radio interviewer.
But not all Republicans think they can shrug off the past two weeks just as easily.
Moderate senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain were this week practically begging Democrats to put them out of their misery. “We won't be the last political party to overplay our hand. It might happen one day on the Democratic side. And if it did, would Republicans, for the good of the country, kinda give a little,” pleaded Graham.
McCain, who opposed the risky House strategy from the outset, accused Democratic rivals of “piling on” in delight....

Time for new leadership.
Surrendering for no good reason is not the same as a fair loss.
I don't believe this at ALL!
I believe that the Party did the right thing for the wrong reason. It asked for a defunding of Obamacare. It asked for the individual mandate to be delayed a year.
Those were the wrong tactics I believe for the overall strategy of killing Obamacare.
I believe that their tactics did however, shine a spotlight on the failures of Obamacare that the press hasn't been able to gloss over and hide.
Obama and his ilk are going to have to spend the next year coping with Obamacare in a VERY public way, thanks to the Repub efforts.
Just right for an election year.
They want to lose...Winning means they would actually have to lead instead of complaining all the time. They get their nice DC insider perks either way.
Well, I thought they fought the right fight at the right time and pretty much the right way. If we wait until ‘16, obamacare will be an integrated part of life and there will be no way to dump it.
Third Party?!?!? Heck I’d like a Second Party, first.
You have good points. And during the next year, the republicans (especially the conservatives) will be repeating “See, we told you so”. Any negativity will go away as the public realizes Cruz, Lee, etc. were prophetic criers warning about the inveloping train wreck.
But also consider:
Right now it's a few hundred who have gotten their insurance quotes. A drop in the bucket, literally.
Just wait. Next year it'll be hundreds of thousands, millions, TENS OF MILLIONS, *HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS* who are expressing their opinions in a very vocal and public way.
This party is only beginning!
It helped identify the RINOs and the Quislings. Here is hoping that Graham and McDonnell lose in the primaries.

hey. if conservative republicans separate from their own party, i’ll join up. call it the Lincoln’s Original Party. whatever as long as the leftist GOP leadership is purged from it.
I take note of the fact that those Republicans who were saying “we can’t win” during the fight over Obamacare funding, now that it has again been funded, are acting an awful lot like they just won.
This whole show was just that — a show. There was no intent to rid us of Obamacare or to hold the line on the other issues.
The only leadership I recognize is the conservative caucus. There is no one else in the party IMHO beyond that.
The Tea Party was the big winner over the past month.
Just like the Iraq/Afghanistan war crystallized Democrats against Bush and nationalized the 2006 and 2008 election, Obamacare and the runaway debt have strengthened the Tea Party to take over the Republican party in a generational change. Old school Republicans like Graham and McCain will retire or be retired.
With Obama running in the 30’s and low 40’s in approval, the time is right for a sweep of the House and Senate. Watch the 2014 Congress attach de-funding and government-shrinking provisions to every bill that is sent to Obama for signature.
Remember, the Republicans won the House in 2010 and 2012 with the campaign promise to obstruct every leftist program dreamed up by the Democrats. When Obama or Reid calls them “obstructionists”, it only serves to encourage the Tea Party to continue the fight — victories in small battles lead to victory in war.
If Obama and Reid simply said that they would negotiate everything, even if they gave away complete fluff, the Tea Party would have been deflated and Ted Cruz would just be another freshman senator. Amazing how small-minded Valarie Jarrett and Obama really are to not see that coming.
THE ONLY QUESTION IS 2DV IS : HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE BEFORE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THE AMERICAN PEOPL REALIZE THAT TEA PARTY Conservatism IS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE....?
I can agree with everything you say...except for one little qualification:
At least, to some degree, success requires that the RNC and RSCC not screw it up -- fighting the Tea Party with more money and passion than they direct against the Democrats.
Given that we'll be expending serious money and passion against McConnell, Graham, Alexander and Cochrane, e.g., I rather doubt we can count on their support for our candidates...should we prevail.
Nonetheless, the internecine battle in the Republican Party needs to be fought -- and both sides need to abide by the outcome if we are to succeed.
