I completely agree with you, that’s very much what happened last time. Maybe all these putative candidates (like Cruz, Paul, Walker, et al.) need to get together and pick one to run.

Pretty sure that would never happen in reality. One things these pols all have in common is abitiousness.

It would be kind of cool if in 2016 we “flipped the script” as Curtis Sliwa likes to say and ran some “bright young thing” while the Dems ran Mrs. Next-in-line Clinton.

Although now that I think about it that was kind of the situation in 2000 with W. v. Gore. Who else ran for the R. nomination that year? McCain, no?

I think closed primaries might also help. I don’t know why any party would have open primaries, I really don’t understand that. Do the dems do that or just the stupid Rs?

Ah, but Windflier I lost a $25 bet to my daughter when Hillary ran for Senate in NY. I said: how can she win, she’s a crook, she’s never done anything, Hillarycare failed? And the kid said: it’s NY, she’s a celebrity, she’s gonna win.

It hurt to pay that money, that’s all I can say.

I really wish she’d beaten Obama, he’s been a DISASTER.

That’s not the picture the American people see. They see her as always coming up roses.

You mean sorta like this?

That's about as "rosy" as Hillary gets these days.

No.

Just No.

I still wouldn’t buy a used car, or a prepaid funeral plan, from the Huckster.

Huckabee will ride to cover Christie’s right flank and divide conservative religious voters from other conservative voters.

A GOP-E man all the way.....

California Gov. Jerry Brown, a 1992 DEM presidential candidate turned media personality, is looking at another bid for the presidency, this time backed by ministers eager to put an Irish-American into the White House.

Brown will test the waters when he returns to Berkeley, Cal, December 12-13 to address the California Renewal Project, part of evangelical organizer Linda Ronstadt’s American Renewal Project. Brown had the support of pastors in his 1992 fight against eventual winner Gov. Bill Clinton.

Among the potential candidates looking at a DEM bid, Brown is closest to the pastors. He is a social liberal who can quote the Bible as easy as former President Bill Clinton.

According to reports, pastors from Iowa and South Carolina — two key political states early in the DEM primary season — are meeting with Brown during the convention to urge him to run....

I was just trying to pull a few names out of my head, pols who would be considered the “conservative” rather than “establishment” candidates for pres.

Do not construe inclusion or exclusion as an endorsement or rejection, they were just random examples.

Please no. I hate to see his campaign split off the single issue, simpleton voters who will vote for him because “he’s a Christian!”. Otherwise, I actually like watching him on TV.

I lost a $25 bet to my daughter when Hillary ran for Senate in NY.

I wouldn't have taken that bet. I had no doubt at the time that Hillary would win that seat. She was still riding a tide of goodwill and good p.r. from her White House days (well, as far as libs are concerned anyway).

Fast forward to 2008, and she didn't have the right stuff to beat a virtually unknown freshman Senator. She'd been on the world stage for sixteen years at that point, and Obama beat her with nothing more than the 'cool guy' factor.

If she's so formidable, there's no way that would have ever happened.

Times change. People change. The culture moves on. Hillary's day has come and gone.

Exactly—and there are always endless preening “conservatives” happy to go along with it. Ben Carson and Huck are likely just the beginning for 2016.

No, the liberals will plump him up, shall we say, like McCain in ‘08, straight through the primaries.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
*************************
Beat me to it, as that was my first thought!

I like his radio program and about 50% of his TV shows.

The GOP does NOT need Huck cluttering up the primaries and taking votes away from better candidates. That crap led to Juan McLame becoming the nominee. ....Conservatives need to make it clear to the GOPe that their selections are not going to fly in the future.
