Key Democratic Group Will Sit Out Midterm Elections

The Democratic Party’s biggest super PAC, recently retooled as an early pro-Hillary Clinton effort, will sit out the midterm elections this year.

A spokesman with the group, Priorities USA Action, confirmed to BuzzFeed on Wednesday night that it would not be involved in House or Senate campaigns.

“House Majority PAC and Majority PAC are doing everything right and making a real difference. We fully support their efforts,” said the spokesman, Peter Kauffmann, referring to the main groups supporting Democratic congressional candidates.

Priorities USA Action, which operates under loose campaign finance rules that allow it to raise and spend unlimited sums, put $65 million behind Barack Obama in 2012.

Sources close to the group say its leaders considered helping Democrats in House and Senate races approaching this fall. The PAC’s principal financial backer, Hollywood magnate Jeffrey Katzenberg, has shown an interest in one midterm candidate in particular: Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democrat gunning to unseat Sen. Mitch McConnell. Katzenberg, one of Obama’s biggest bundlers, raised more than $1 million for Grimes on her first trip to California last year.

Sean Sweeney, the former Obama aide who co-founded Priorities USA, said a year ago that the group would likely let others, like House Majority PAC and Majority PAC, “take the lead on House and Senate races.”

But Kauffmann’s comments Wednesday night mark the first sure signal since the group’s re-launch last month that it will steer clear of 2014 races.

Priorities USA will also take steps to ensure its Clinton fundraising operation doesn’t interfere with the party during the midterms, according to a Wall Street Journal report this week. The group, the article said, is discussing a system in which it asks donors to hold off on making larger contributions until after 2014.

After months of discussions, which date back to as early as last spring, the political action committee announced it would support Clinton should she decide to make a second White House run in 2016. The group assembled a new board of directors, headed by Jim Messina, Obama’s campaign manager, and Jennifer Granholm, the former governor of Michigan who backed Clinton’s first presidential bid in 2008. Priorities USA announced its new board in the New York Times last month.

The group is one of several Democratic nonprofits — including Ready for Hillary, American Bridge, and EMILY’s List — already aligned behind Clinton.

No problemo! Karl Rove- aka American Crossroads, Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies, Conservative Victory Project, and probably any number of new PAC aliases, Steve LaTourette (Defending Main Street PAC, Main Street Advocacy), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, West Main Street Values PAC (prog Pubs seem to like the term "Main Street,"), and so on ad nauseam can simply step in and directly fund any Democrat shortfalls. They're helping out Democrats already by pouring millions down a rat hole to help Mitch McConnell* - who is already damaged goods - and Thad Cochran.

Heck, Dick Lugar and other GOP-e asshats are already giving out free endorsements to Democrats, why not wads of cash too?

Now Paul Rand, the 51-year-old Kentucky ophthalmologist-turned-senator has only been in Congress for three years. But Paul took dead aim at the former president, arguing that Bill’s legacy is brutified by Monica, when Bill wants his legacy to be ratified by Hillary.

Unruffled by the kerfuffle, Paul reiterated to me that he disdains the Democratic “hypocrisy within the party that wants to blame Republicans for somehow not liking women, that somehow we’re this party that has some kind of war going on, and they have as a leader and one of the most prominent fund-raising people in their party still to this very day, a person who seems in some ways to have his own private war on women.”

Paul aimed an asteroid at Planet Hillary on “Meet the Press”. David Gregory asked Paul about the comment of his wife, Kelley, in a Jason Horowitz profile of the senator in Vogue, that Bill Clinton should not be First Spouse, given his “predatory” behavior with Monica Lewinsky.

Paul backed up his wife, telling Gregory that there “is no excuse” for preying on a young intern and that it should affect history’s view of the ex-president. While he said it was “not Hillary’s fault,” he added that with the Clintons, “sometimes it’s hard to separate one from the other.”

On Fox News, after the State of the Union, Paul injected the word “violence” into the political bloodstream, noting that the Democratic “standard-bearer seems to be a guy that was committing the workplace kind of violence that we should all be opposed to.”

THE CLINTON'S CALCULATED END GAME Monica had to be sacrificed for the greater good of the Clintons and feminist ambitions. Hillary was furious at Bill — stories were leaked that he was sleeping on the couch — but she also had to protect her political investment. If he collapsed, she was done. And she was going up — to the Senate and eventually the Oval Office.

HILLARY WAS PART OF THE LEWINSKY COVER-UP It is not so simple for Democrats to cast Hillary as a victim; she was also part of the damage-control team to vouch for her husband and undermine his mistress.

White House aides and other Democrats spread the word that "Monica was a troubled young woman with stalker tendencies." Sidney Blumenthal, a senior White House adviser, later testified that Hillary told him that “she was distressed that the president was being attacked, in her view, for political motives, for his ministry of a troubled person.”

Bill Clinton jogs daily near his home in Chappaqua , NY...

BUT -as trouble seems to always find him- on each run he happened to jog past a hooker standing on the same street corner, day after day.

With some apprehension he would brace himself as he approached her for what was most certainly to follow:

"Fifty dollars!" she would cry out from the curb.

"No, five dollars!" fired back Clinton .

This ritual between Bill and the hooker continued for days. He'd run by and she'd yell, "Fifty dollars!" And he'd yell back, "Five dollars!"

One day however, Hillary decided that she wanted to accompany her husband on his jog.

As the jogging couple neared the problematic street corner, Bill realized the 'pro' would bark her $50 offer and Hillary would wonder what he'd really been doing on all his past outings.

He knew he better have a darn good explanation for the former Secretary of State. As they jogged into the turn that would take them past the corner, Bill became even more apprehensive than usual.

Sure enough, there was the hooker!

Bill tried to avoid the prostitute's eyes as she watched the pair jog past...

The hooker yelled from the sidewalk "See what you get for five bucks?"
