“A key argument against taking Donald Trump’s candidacy seriously is evaporating”
How sad. Sad for lying, hypocritical, cringing, PC, GOPe, RINO, DC insider scum who practice hours a day in front of the mirror pretending to be holier than thou, meanwhile selling out the workers of this country for hundreds of millions of dollars of campaign “contributions” from the rich and powerful oligarchs. Sad for billionaires and oligarchs everywhere that they’re unable to buy the leading candidate and will be forced to waste their money buying only losers.
I know.
Trumps unfettered support for endless immigration is but one of the symptoms you could have referenced.
“Worship of a politician on a mass scale can be dangerous. Supporters need to lead with their heads, not their emotions.”
I agree with that.
That’s why I said the Trump worship makes me uncomfortable.
But I don’t think it is a sizable amount. I don’t think it is anything to worry about.
It bothers me to see this, to be honest. I mean, for myself, I entered this thing solidly behind Ted Cruz. He was my guy, and in many ways, he still is. So is Trump. If either win the nom, I’ll happily vote for them. For that matter, WHOEVER wins the nom will get my vote. I’m not into withholding my vote in protest, because it has absolutely no effect on the grand scheme of things, other than to I guess absolve the non-voter of responsibility for choosing the “wrong” candidate. Friendly rivalry is one thing, but some of the nastiness I see fired off between people who should be on the same idealogical irritates the hell out of me.
That's a fair question. For some folks, putting Cruz in some sort of secondary slot is a compromise. For me, it's more of a reality thing. I like what Trump is saying, but I trust Cruz more.
Now here comes the reality thing. I could be wrong, but I see Trump as being much more electable. We simply cannot let Hillary or Sanders or Biden win in 2016! The damage Obama has already done would become irreversible.
Your average low-info voter has no idea who Cruz is, and will believe whatever the MSM tells them. But Trump is Trump. So Trump/Cruz makes sense.
I love Rubios dimples!
Well said.
From where I'm sitting, there's only one word for it, the same one I had when faced with the option of voting for Romney or voting for Obama as a way to fight for the American constitution.
"Nuts!"
It's time to start fighting like Americans, inclucing at the ballot box. Now I only vote for what I want to win. See my tagline.
Trump is conservative on these issues:
Pro life since at least 2011, wanted to ban partial birth abortion as far back as 2000.
Pro Traditional marriage. "Gay rights is not my thing."
Pro capital punishment "Capital punishment isn't uncivilized; murderers living is"
Hold Judges accountable
Opposes "Common core is a disaster" Teach citizenship, quit "dumbing down".
Anti education unions (2000)
For school choice
"Climate Change is a hoax"
"No Cap-and-Tax"
For drilling our own.
On Environment "Good development enhances the environment"
Stressed the importance of a strong family & culture of life (2015)
Supports Israel
Opposes Iran deal and letting Iran obtain the bomb.
Wants to crush ISIS quickly.
Wants a military so strong no one will challenge us.
Against unbalanced trade deals that kill American jobs.
Against warrant-less government surveillance of citizens.
Is against having a high national debt. Warns that $24T is a point of no return.
Against gun control
For assault weapon ban but says the AR-15 shouldn't be considered an assault weapon.
Wants to repeal Obamacare and replace it with market driven polices and increased competition among insurance companies.
Wants to increase military spending.
Will close the border to illegals
Will send the criminals and sponges back.
Will deport all illegals but will let the hard working ones go through the legal process to come back.
Against Anchor babies
Knows unemployment is much higher than official stats.
Will bring jobs back through better trade negotiation.
Attended military academy and Wharton Business School.
Stood up for Birthers and challenged Obama on his fraud. Believes USA is "the greatest force for freedom the world has ever known"
Wants to honor commitments on Social Security and Medicare, which we can afford to do if he gets the economy going full steam.
Wants to reduce the fraud in disability and other programs.
Against marriage penalties in tax code.
Wants to simplify tax code with just 3 simple brackets.
Wants to reduce income taxes and eliminate corporate tax.
Wants to rebuild our infrastructure.
Wants to apply welfare-to-work to 76 other welfare programs (2011)
Doesn't have time for political correctness.
Not afraid to call out either party or both when they are wrong.
Not a puppet to rich campaign donors.
With Trump, he's been in the limelight for decades and everything we know about him - real or imagined - has already been put out there. Political opponents really don't have the ammo they thought they were going to have. Trump can either adopt the Clintonian "That's old news" tack or he can just double-down and not only admit to whatever it was but state he's proud of it - a novel approach that his voters seem to love about him.
When Trump stated last week that he thought "eminent domain is a wonderful thing" - that just sucked the air right out of those critics who were hoping to finally have an issue to smack him around with.
Herman Cain exploded in popularity four years ago because people were even then so hungry for a non-politician that was successful in the private sector. Today, Trump is capitalizing on that and Carson is riding his coattails. My theory has been that Ben Carson provides a convenient place for would-be Trump supporters to park their vote for a while to see what happens with Trump. As it becomes more evident that Trump is in this to stay, look for a lot of the Carson support to peel off and go to Trump.
Between Trump, Carson and Fiorina, they have over 50% of the polling we have seen so far. The establishment candidates are polling in single digits and the only actual politician doing reasonably well is Ted Cruz - who is hated by most of the establishment.
This is a historical election and one that our grandkids will be asking us about many decades from now.
So. . .who is your anointed one. . .you know, the one you support but FReeper haters out there would attack because he is not their anointed one.
Circular firing squad is in full force here on FR.
My theory has been that Ben Carson provides a convenient place for would-be Trump supporters to park their vote for a while to see what happens with Trump.
“knee-jerk” or “energized/motivated”
Big difference.
Energized/motivated voters make an election.
Point me at the candidate who has released more position papers then Trump.
Read his tax plan.
Perhaps you are too young to remember but there was a lot of emotionalism in Reagan's supporters in 1979-80 too. We knew who was on our side and who was not back then.
Rather then attack Trump and his supporters, try making a case FOR your candidate. You will find that a whole lot more effective.
The morons still dont get it. We want sovereignty and a closed controlled border, not a flood of illegals that has no loyalty to this country or is constitution. In other times this would be called an invasion. He’s the only one that will do something, all the others just talk and thats all they would do in office. Do people want to be north mexico or another central or south american shithole 3rd world country(every country south of the USA sucks, every single one, and its nothing to strive for)? I dont and I bet millions more dont either.
Trump is pretty plain spoken when it comes to securing the border and stopping and deporting illegal aliens.
Legal immigration is okay.
It is terrible when democRATS misrepresent his stance regarding illegal/legal immigration.
Nuts.
I only vote for what I want to win. I want limited government conservatism to win.
I agree may the best candidate win.
