DES MOINES, Iowa —CBS News polls released Sunday during “Face the Nation” reveal new rankings in the Republican and Democratic presidential races, as well as approval ratings of Congress and President Barack Obama.

With the first Democratic presidential debate just days away, the newly released poll shows Hillary Clinton maintains a sizable lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders and Vice President Joe Biden, even though Biden hasn’t officially jumped in the race.

Clinton leads at 46 percent, Sanders has 27 percent and Biden has 16 percent.

In the race for the GOP nomination, the CBS News poll reveals Donald Trump maintains the lead with 27 percent while Dr. Ben Carson closely trails behind with 21 percent.

In the single digits, Sen. Ted Cruz has 9 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio follows with 8 percent, and former Gov. Jeb Bush and businesswoman Carly Fiorina both hold 6 percent. Gov. Mike Huckabee has slipped considerably from 8 percent in August to 2 percent in October....

I surmise Cruz has better numbers than most pols. Most conservatives hang up on pollsters. I do. I do not any organization knowing my official position as I don’t trust them.

Nice to see Cruz polling better than Bush, Rubio and Fiorina. Moving up from solid 8th to solid 6th with a good shot at 3rd as in this poll.

If Carson fades - likely I believe then ...
And if the unthinkable happens and Trump ...

No need to spend a lot of time rating Boehner. He’s a known quantity already. Unless they are measuring “Most Vacuous”, in which case John Boehner would receive a very high rating indeed.

No question about it, Ted Cruz is the one we need, especially at this critical time.

-------------------------------

Ted Cruz, recently, on Russia, Syria, Obama...

"If we want to actually dismantle ISIS, we need to dramatically change course. We need a real, robust campaign that maximizes our overwhelming air advantage.

We need to focus our efforts not on trying to create friends, but on supporting our real ones, especially the Kurds in Iraq and Syria who have actually had success against ISIS."

-snip-

"We can redouble our efforts to develop the defensive weapons that neutralized the offensive Soviet threat -- particularly missile defense, which has seen a 25% budget reduction under Obama, according to an analysis from the conservative Heritage Foundation, and has been constrained by bad arms deals like New START.

We should not only move quickly to install the canceled interceptor sites Putin opposed in Poland and the Czech Republic, but also to develop the next generation of systems that will only increase his discomfiture.

These options do not entail a ground war in Syria, yet would effectively shake us free from the failed policies that have brought us to our current impasse.

These options set us on a new path that puts Putin on notice that the United States is reclaiming our traditional role as leader of the free world."

http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/09/opinions/cruz-syria-putin/index.html

**************************************************

I think it would be a mistake to get involved in the Syrian civil war. There have been voices in Washington eager for us to send our sons and daughters over to fight that civil war for some time. I haven’t been one of them. I think the touchstone of U.S. military policy should be protecting the national security of this country.

What we’re seeing Putin in Russia do is a direct response to the profound weakness of Obama over six and a half years.

Putin views Obama as weak, as ineffective, and frankly, as a laughingstock. And, as a result, he is moving in, he is invading his neighbors – like Ukraine – he’s kidnapping Estonians, and he’s moving into Syria to gain a stronger foothold in the Middle East."

"According to the Washington Free Beacon, Russia’s nuclear arsenal how has over 100 nuclear warheads above the limit set by the treaty.

Since the treaty was launched, Russia has deployed 111 new nuclear warheads, bringing its total number of deployed warheads to 1,648. That treaty limit is 1,150 warheads — a number that must be reached in 2018.

Comparatively, the numbers of U.S. nuclear warheads, missiles and bombers have fallen dramatically and are already below the limits set by the treaty. Additionally, the United States has decreased the number of warheads in its deployed nuclear arsenal by 250.

While the United States intends to eliminate heavy bombers and launchers, Russia has launched a strategic nuclear force expansion.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also recently announced a new doctrine that placed priority on nuclear forces.

If this raises concern for you, you are not alone.

Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Ala., chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, said Russia “is in the business of violating treaties.”

Rogers said Putin has violated several agreements and treaties in the past, and he simply “violates any treaty or agreement that puts limits on capabilities that Mr. Putin and his cronies desire.”

“Russia’s arguable adherence to the New START Treaty just indicates how bad a deal it is for the United States,” he said.

Adm. William Gortney, commander of the U.S. Northern Command, said Wednesday that Russia has read our play book and is “fielding cruise missiles that are very, very accurate, very long range.”

Gortney said these missiles have the ability to reach targets in Canada and the United States. He added that Russia has been participating in war game scenarios recently that simulate cruise missile strikes in Alaska.

This news is serious because it appears Russia has no intention of abiding by New START or any other treaty. We should therefore be building up our military and our arsenals instead of depleting them.

Russia Adds 111 Warheads Under Arms Treaty
Moscow warheads above New START treaty limit

By: Bill Gertz
October 9, 2015

Russia has now deployed more than 100 nuclear warheads in its strategic arsenal above the limits set by the New START arms treaty limits—two years before it must meet treaty arms reduction goals.

New START nuclear warhead and delivery system numbers made public Oct. 1 reveal that since the 2010 arms accord went into force, Moscow increased the number of deployed nuclear warheads by a total of 111 weapons for a total of 1,648 deployed warheads. That number is 98 warheads above the treaty limit of 1,150 warheads that must be reached by the 2018 deadline of the treaty.

At the same time, U.S. nuclear warheads, missiles, and bombers have fallen sharply and remain below the required levels under the New START pact.

The United States during the same period of the Russian increases cut its deployed nuclear arsenal by 250 warheads. ..."(more...)

This was posted earlier (no big deal as it warrants repetition) but the takeaway here is that Trump and Carson combine for 48% and add in Carly and it's 54% for the non politicians.

This is absolutely devastating to the establishment candidates and virtually the death knell for the Jebbie Bush campaign.

We are truly witnessing history in the making here. A non politician is about to win the Republican nomination for the highest office in the land.

Four years ago today, Herman Cain was beginning his surge but he was still effectively tied with eventual nominee Mitt Romney. At the peak of Cain-mania (late October/early November), Romney still had between 20-25 per cent of the vote in the polls.

The fact that Jebbie Bush is still in mid single digits at this point is absolutely devastating to his chances.

The GOPe strategy of divide and conquer the conservatives while coalescing behind one GOPe candidate, is mathematically impossible at this point, since the total of GOPe candidates’ support is so low.

SamAdams76 :" The fact that Jebbie Bush is still in mid single digits at this point is absolutely devastating to his chances."

It's abosolutely devastating to the GOPe crapmasters who have been trying to sell us a bill of crap goods for the last two elections.
A turd is a turd , no matter how many times you buff it up !,
and then try to pick it up on the shiney side !!
You will get dirty , regardless ...

The amusing thing is that Cruz was the party establishment's worst nightmare just six months ago. Now they might look on Cruz's nomination with relief. At least he's a politician and more or less predictable, even if they don't like what they expect from him.

From the perspective of those supporting Trump/Carson/Carly, I think Cruz is also attractive. He's as close as you can get to a non-politician among those who hold elective office, and those supporting the non-politicians may jump to Cruz if their candidates fade. Cruz is my top choice, and he seems to be handling things well. Note: my #2 is Trump, and I am not sure who is next in line except that it will not be someone who supports Amnesty, gun grabbing, or Obamacare.

I remember the Cain surge very clearly. For a few weeks, I was truly hooked in and actually thought he had a chance to outwrestle Romney for the nomination or at least put himself in contention for the VP slot.

The bimbo eruption thing was very strange. Suddenly Gloria Alfred shows up with a bunch of women accusing Cain of sexual misconduct. I thought Cain was going to fight the charges. However, he simply disappeared and we never really heard from him again.

I agree about Trump. He's been tabloid fodder since the 1970s. Everything real or imagined has already come out about him. I doubt his political enemies are going to dig up anything we haven't already heard about. In fact, Trump seems to have that Bill Clinton thing going for him. Even if new material comes up about other women, it's not going to matter.

One thing I'll say about Trump. He owns up to his marital indiscretions and he treats his women with class and respect. Contrast that to "I did not have sex with that woman" Bill Clinton and the way Clinton would have his people publicly smear and trash these woman. Remember James Carville's "drag a dollar through a trailer park" comment? Trump would never do anything as low class as that.

Not to mention that none of Trump's women ever accused him of harassment or assault.

Jeb!, please do the honorable thing at this point and withdraw. You are fading, and fast. You are not going to recover. Avoid further embarrassment - we don’t care what excuse you use. Save your donors’ money. Take Karl with you on a nice, long vacation. The GOPe is done. We promise not to rub it in - much.

And if the unthinkable happens and Trump ...

What could happen is only "unthinkable" until it DOES happen. So far, The Donald has negotiated the high-wire act without a net with a deftness and skill that can only bring admiration even among his most serious detractors.

Could The Donald make a serious misstep even yet? As his confidence seems in no way shaken, he could really go all the way.

It ain't bragging if you really CAN do it.

As you know I’ve done intensive reading on the Trumps. Trump loved Ivana but she wanted to party and he didn’t. After her plastic surgery it just fell apart. He originally want five children. And he has
His second marriage both agreed should have never happened When he talks about his conversion on abortion issue because of a “friends” decision I’ve wondered if that beautiful child he mentions is his own Tiffany

He has always appreciated women (was awarded a title at military school because the women swarmed around him.

He was close to his mother and still is to his sisters and daughters. He truly does cherish them
As to marriage three. She is quite solid. Was not known as a party girl. Like DT preferred to be home. She is very smart , speaks multiple languages has degree in design(architecture). And loves her role as mother and grandmother. The picture of her with Cruz’s two daughters at the first debate won me over. They were leaning on her lap sharing her cell phone. Much love in that picture. One tabloid said the elevator to grandpa and grandmas was well used and they often shared meals with all. Don jr has 5. Ivanka is expecting third
