In his 2014 re-election, Mitch McConnell wasn't running on his personality, nor was he trying to make the case he was the most homespun Kentucky senator there ever was. On the campaign trail, everything McConnell said and did came down to one essential truth: a vote for Mitch McConnell was a vote for a Republican Senate majority.
Now, however a volatile and unpredictable presidential cycle could throw that majority into jeopardy and all of the building blocks McConnell's been laying through his three-decade career could fall apart if a bombastic or unpredictable GOP presidential candidate -- Donald Trump? Ted Cruz? -- wins the nomination and threatens his carefully-crafted majority.
"McConnell could orchestrate the perfect Senate race, but if the Republican presidential candidacy is a bust all of those candidacies could be washed away," said Kyle Kondik, an expert on congressional elections with the University of Virginia. "It would be interesting that here you have a man of the party establishment who played by the rules and at the time of what could be his ultimate triumph, the party establishment is thrown aside and all his work could be undone."(continued)

Thank God.
I found an interesting category in the CBS Iowa poll. 63% said Ted Cruz was electable and 41% said Trump was electable. The other polls that I have seen show Cruz doing better than Trump against Hillary.
What good is having a carefully crafted opposition party if their not going to oppose anything!
By the way, Trump’s coattails will ensure a Republican landslide nationwide, so screw traitor McConnell.
What good does s achieved by having a Republican majority in both or either house when the GOPe leadership is indistinguishable from the democrat leadership?
>> a vote for Mitch McConnell was a vote for a Republican Senate majority
And that is why Trump is so darned popular. We stopped falling for the “give us a majority and we’ll fix things” line of BS.
Maybe, but won't it be the same groups of Republicans that bent over backwards for the POSPOTUS and the minority DEMs in Congress?
Well Ms Lauren, just what the hell has he done with his Majority since the T.E.A. Party gave it to him?
Cruz can’t best Hillary in a debate; he’s the Rick Lazio of that presidential debate.
The Dems and Rs are controlled by the same globalist puppet masters and do their bidding. They are only concerned with controlling the trillion-dollar budget and the Uniparty will be preserved at all costs. The big fighting between the parties is nothing but for show to keep the citizens from showing up with pitchforks and rope.
Trump and Cruz expose the level of corruption at all levels. Fox, for one example, has been completely exposed as a RINO/Uniparty mouthpiece.
That’s VERY true; Jim !
Maybe, maybe not. Trump will be realigning the entire ballgame. His emphasis is on securing the border, securing the nation and then cutting government and rebuilding the economy. Time to purge the open borders and big government traitors.
From you lips to God’s ears.
Felt this tingle the day he announced and it lingers still. A Tsunami is not necessarily something to destruct the good - it an take away evil as well.
WE STUMP FOR TRUMP
WE CANNOT LOSE WITH CRUZ
THE TWO ON A TICKET
WE’LL TELL LIBS TO STICK IT
MAKE THIS COUNTRY GREAT
JUSTICE FOR AMERICA AND AMERICANS
WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!
Trump is the one I worry about in a debate with Hillary. Trump has no depth on the issues. Just saying “I have a terrific plan and you’re gonna love it”, won’t cut it.
Ted Cruz would annihilate Hillary. He’s not only a world class debater, he’s right on the issues.
The North American debate champion in both categories, a man who has won half a dozen cases before the United States Supreme Court can’t beat an alcoholic 70 year old woman? Please tell me you’re pulling our legs...

Juan should know about the dangers of a presidential ticket affecting the Senate outcomes. When he lost in 2008, he helped give Obama a 60 vote majority and the ability to pass Obamacare without a single Republican vote.
This stupid article is written as if the entire more conservative portion of the US voting public should be concerned about Mitch McConnell and his personal power base, when in reality he and Boner have largely ignored the priorities of those who voted them into office in favor of their big donors.
