He’s neither a liberal or a conservative-he’s a nationalist

That aptly describes Benito Mussolini, back when Fascism was popular. Oh, wait...

The GOPe is helping Trump. And people here think he's the answer to dealing with them. I never thought I'd see the day when Free Republic would seek a selfish, narcissistic strongman to lead this great country.

People here who think Trump is the answer are no different than the RINOs who supported Obama back in 2008. You're dreaming that he will behave in a manner completely inconsistent with his history.

“abandons his consttitutional principles” whoa there.

Don't read me wrong, I’m not suggesting that he do this. I make this statement over frustration that Cruz will clearly be facing a wall of opposition from all sides to any political initiatives he launches. For whatever reason, this seems to have a personality component to it. Will he be able to effectively work through the opposition to get anything done or will it be gridlock for four years? Now, people are rightly concerned about Trump's conservative bona fides, but we know he can deal and when he deals he usually gets what he wants.

Leadership and the ability to go over the heads of the parties to the people is essential. While Cruz has good views I do not believe he has that capability. Nothing he has done in the Senate has shown he could sway support to his positions. He took some principled positions but that alone is not enough.

Trump is the URGENT & TEMPORARY answer in 2016. Because he is the only bold & fearless candidate to shake the DC Elites. All other candidates will be controlled by their mega-rich donors, and nothing will change. Cruz is not popular in congress. Congress will reject EVERYTHING he proposes. After 4 years of Trump, we will recalculate the future.

Yes, Mr 538 was under the delusion that a novice outsider nouveau politician could never win nomination. He was banking on history, exactly same as 98% of republican pundits.

See post #5. That poster says Nate Silver picked 50 out of 50 states in 2012.

GOPe is the reluctant bride now. She has to choose between Cruz and Trump, and she may pick Trump. She was NEVER in love with Trump for 8 months.

If Trump fails nomination (looks unlikely 8 days before Iowa) Cruz would be the next best for 2016.

Yours is an honest and realistic assessment of a president Cruz.

Everybody moans every four years that we need to send a message to DC.

Well, Trump is the message! Loud and clear.

Time the establishment cronies of both sides got a taste.

Trump is not the Messiah, not by a very, very long shot.

He is the current antidote to what ails this country.

After the healing begins, we the people can then adjust the dose.

If need be, there will be a hell of a lot more establishment candidates yearning to take his place than there will be those of his mold.

And Trump and the GOP / Dems will continue to push the country leftward.

More jobs brought back from China is pushing leftward in your world?

A great big wall on Southern border built with Mexico’s money is leftward in your world?

ALL Illegals deported FIRST and only allow those back with our selection and discretion is pushing leftward in your world?

What world are you living in? I rather not live in your world.

That is very very very close to what I am thinking.
When a patient has his heart failing, first thing he needs is the jolt of high voltage electric shock treatment. Later on will come any surgery and physical therapy.

It will never happen. Trump will govern very much like Obama.
