To some of us that's the real issue here, not the acknowledged value of hospice to people who are dying of natural causes.

Then you're in the wrong conversation.

"If the order to rehydrate and give food had been given for my daughter, I'd have camped out at her bedside until she was back in shape"

Pretty hard to do when they are denied access to her and there is an armed security guard to see to it.

Pretty easy to do when it's someone like Laz and he's determined.

I seriously doubt that there's a federal law forbidding hospices from accepting non-terminal (or more than 6 months to terminal) patients. More likely, the law forbids Medicare from PAYING for hospice care under these circumstances. Federal meddling is mostly accomplished via strings attached to money, rather than directly, and I can't imagine what sort of wacko interpretation of the Constitution would enable the feds to prohibit a fully conscious person (as many hospice entrants are) from choosing to move into a hospice when a doctor has predicted say another 7-8 months to live.

If the hospital discharged her this soon, It's probablybecause any medical intervention to stabalize her was declined. Especially since she was returned to the house of death.

I fear you've hit very close to the mark here...

Is that what that order says and I interpret Supercat?

My hope was that a doctor would have realized that Schiavo intended to steal Terri away, and would have delayed putting in a feeding tube as long as possible, claiming that in his medical judgement it would be more prudent to keep her on a water, glucose, and antibiotic IV until she sufficiently stable to accept the tube. Of course, I was also expecting that a GAL would be appointed rather more quickly. Grr...

Bet you a cup of coffee his current mistress leaves him over all this.

I wouldn't be surprised if women are lining up all over the country to be with this guy, just like they did with Peterson and Bundy. There is a sickness in this society that is beyond comprehension.

Got Confirmation that Terri was moved by ambulance this evening to a hospice center in Florida. Link listed below. Just wonder why she was taken to Hospice? Thought that was a place for people that only had a week or so to live? Why not send her to a rehabilitation center? Don't understand.
Couldn't drag the link in here. just go to cnn.com and you can read the story

So what was the financial incentive for the hospice to have Terri around for three years now? One post said the hospice was not even charging Schiavo for its "services."

Was this Order served? AND to what facility?

Yes, itt was served yesterday (w/o typos) at the hospice. That's when Terri was moved to the hospital... where she was moved FROM this evening.

It prepares the dying for death.

And just who pray tell defines this moment of "approaching" death? Is it the husband who awaits his monetary due? Is it the kids who stand to inherit the accounts? Is it perchance the doctor/hospice who get to decide where the organs are going?

I sense a blind faith in the opinions of doctors on the part of some. You know (I am sure) that medical experts will testify for both sides in a jury trial. Just as in this case - there are doctors on both sides - it is the judge who leaned toward the side of ending Terri's life. How convenient that he had personal dealings with Felos etc.

You're just flat wrong about this.

Well, I'd rather err on the side of life than death.

No, GALs work mostly on child custody and child abuise cases, which are certainly not public record proceedings. And Terri's right to privacy has not been cancelled by the intense public interest in her case.

I'm trying to find the link of the physical abuse Terri suffered at the hands of her husband Michael Schiavo long before she suffered a brain injury in 1990. And I've also heard that the reason he is still married to her is that he can have her body cremated as soon as she dies, so no autopsy would be performed, thus avoiding any investigation into the previous injuries he caused to Terri before her brain injury. I will keep trying to find the link to support this, but in the meantime, let's get some other facts out.

Disabled Woman Would Cry 'Help Me,' Caregivers Claim
By Jeff Johnson
CNSNews.com Congressional Bureau Chief
September 03, 2003

EXCERPT:

Thirty-nine year old Terri Schindler Schiavo suffered a brain injury in 1990 under questionable circumstances. That injury, complicated by a lack of therapy for more than a decade, has required that she be given nutrition and hydration through a gastrostomy or "feeding tube."

Since receiving a $1.2 million medical malpractice award on behalf of his wife, Schiavo has provided only subsistence care for her and, based on affidavits included with the Schindlers' suit, allegedly forbidden medical professionals from providing his wife with any therapy or rehabilitation. He is currently allowing her to receive limited medical treatment for a severe infection under a court order.

Former caregivers file affidavits supporting allegations

Three medical professionals who had cared for Terri in the past filed affidavits accompanying the lawsuit, disputing Michael Schiavo's claims that his wife was in a "Persistent Vegetative State," which is the requirement under Florida law for a feeding tube to be removed. The medical experts also chronicled a long history of alleged denial of care and therapy by Schiavo.

Carolyn Johnson, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), cared for Terri in a nursing home in the early 1990s. She described her shock at being ordered not to provide the same care for Terri as a patient in the same room with a similar brain injury was receiving.

"I learned, as part of my training, that there was a family dispute and that the husband, as guardian, wanted no rehabilitation for Terri," Johnson explained. "Once, I wanted to put a cloth in Terri's hand to keep her hand from closing in on itself, but I was not permitted to do this, as Michael Schiavo considered that to be a form of rehabilitation."

Another CNA, Heidi Law, cared for Terri at a convalescent center in the mid and late 1990s. Law described similar orders she received not to encourage Mrs. Schiavo's recovery.

"I know that Terri did not receive routine physical therapy or any other kind of therapy. I was personally aware of orders for rehabilitation that were not being carried out," Law alleged in her affidavit. "Even though they were ordered, Michael [Schiavo] would stop them. Michael [Schiavo] ordered that Terri receive no rehabilitation or range of motion therapy."

Law also alleged that her attempts to document Terri's potential for improvement were thwarted.

"I made extensive notes and listed all of Terri's behaviors, but there was never any apparent follow-up consistent with her responsiveness," Law said. "There were trash cans at the nurses stations that we were supposed to empty each shift, and I often saw the notes in them."

Law directly disputes Michael Schiavo's claim that Terri is in a Persistent Vegetative State, as well. In her affidavit, she detailed how she routinely provided Terri with a wet washcloth filled with ice chips to keep her mouth moistened and, on at least three occasions, fed Terri flavored gelatin.

"I personally saw her swallow the ice water and never saw her gag. [Another CAN] and I frequently put orange juice or apple juice in her washcloth to give her something nice to taste, which made her happy," Law recalled. "On three or four occasions I personally fed Terri small mouthfuls of Jell-O, which she was able to swallow and enjoyed immensely."

Nurse recalls Schiavo asking, 'When is that bitch gonna die?'

Carla Sauer Iyer was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the same convalescent center in the mid 1990s, and also cared for Terri. She described Mr. Schiavo as being "focused on Terri's death.

"Michael [Schiavo] would say, 'When is she going to die? Has she died yet?' and 'When is that bitch going to die?'" Iyer charged. "Other statements which I recall him making include, 'Can't anything be done to accelerate her death, won't she ever die?' When she wouldn't die, Michael [Schiavo] would be furious."

Conversely, Iyer said that when she would have to call Schiavo to inform him of a downturn in Terri's condition, Schiavo would be elated. "Michael would be visibly excited, thrilled even, hoping that she would die," Iyer recalled. "He would blurt out, 'I'm going to be rich,' and would talk about all the things he would buy when Terri died, which included a new car, a new boat and going to Europe, among other things."

Iyer also described incidents of Terri Schiavo talking, moving voluntarily and responding to external stimuli, descriptions that Iyer said were removed from Mrs. Schiavo's medical records. Both Law and Iyer reported Terri verbally communicating, also contradicting Michael Schiavo's claim that his wife was in a Persistent Vegetative State.

"During the time I cared for Terri, she formed words. I have heard her say 'mommy' from time to time, and 'momma,'" Law recalled. "She also said 'help me' a number of times."

Iyer described Terri as "alert and oriented," and said Michael Schiavo "systematically distorted" Terri's medical condition.

"Terri spoke on a regular basis while in my presence, saying such things as 'mommy' and 'help me,'" Iyer recalled. "'Help me' was, in fact, one of her most frequent utterances. I heard her say it hundreds of times." LINK

I just got a call from two members of our post-Vigil group. I've gotten 5 calls today from people concerned about today's goings on.

Terri is not missing but it appears that Felos tricked the family. He gave them permission to see Terri at Morton Plant Hospital so they went there to see her.

When brother got there, MPH said Terri was gone. This was just on Bay News 9. Have you ever heard such nonsense? Everybody's freaking out about this.

Bay News 9 just reported the following: They interviewed brother Bob at the Hospital. He didn't know where his sister was at the time. Further, since the Hippa Act was written NOBODY can get medical updates on a patient including the media. Then Attorney Pat Anderson (Terri's) stated that they're not getting any medical info either and MS is still guardian. Then the blonde chick is standing in front of Hospice saying Terri is back there. However, if she isn't terminal, why is she back at Hospice?

This is so sadistic.

MY PERSPECTIVE: Every time I surf cable channels, it appears to me that Felos has a phone bank now or he's personally calling every cable channel including msnbc. FELOS PERJURY? Now Terri is not only in a coma but they're saying she's in organ failure and that Michael loves her.

WHY CAN'T THE JUDGE DO A GAG ORDER ON THE PARTIES BECAUSE FELOS IS COMMITTING PERJURY ON NUMEROUS CHANNELS.

Further, he's making the family drive all over town frantically trying to figure out where Terri is and her condition is unknown.

Unfreakingunbelievable. I don't think we can do anything but keep calling people in high places because the family is "on the road" again and we need to at least UPDATE people in high places about the charade that is in progress.

WITHOUT A GAG ORDER, FELOS IS COMMITTING PERJURY ON NATIONAL TELEVISION in my opinion. I think he's trying to convince the world to come over to the dark side. I have received three phone calls today regarding Terri today. Everyone is very worried about her.

Get out our list and tomorrow, please give updates about these things. Felos should be disbarred. Why isn't the Florida or Clearwater Bar investigating George Felos? This is unacceptable misconduct by an attorney.

Stick with calling Jeb, Johnny Byrd, Daniel Webster, Jack Latvala and the guy I can't remember last name Lee. If we try to call other new people, then it might hurt the conference this week to select a guardian or who knows where she'll end up next. Oh, and whoever's been communicating with him, please update Bob Marshall. If you are as tired as I am, feel free to copy and paste this post to all of the above. They need to KNOW ABOUT THIS EVENING'S OCCURRENCES - 10-22-03.

It is also reported that Terri is under the control of the Governor's Office - is the news media clueless or what?

PHONE NUMBERS & EMAIL ADDRESSES please in exchange for my report from wonderland? Thanks.

"His new live-in girlfriend, w/one child and another one on the way, is Catholic. Apparently (I'm not kidding here) she wants this to be OK'd and legit by the Catholic church.

On top of all the heinious outrageous tricks this piece of filth is trying in order to kill Terri, and his girlfriend is worried about getting married in the Church!!! I hope any priest worth his collar turns his back on this demon from hell and his live-in girlfriend!!! What an abomination!!!!!"

This does not make sense. The woman is "living in sin" according to the Catholic Church now. Why would she be worried about being married in the Church? She's obviously not practicing her religion now. So to be married in the "eyes of the Church", she is complicit in having Terri killed. Michael is marrying someone as evil as he is.

>>How does the hospice benefit financially if someone dies?<<

It doesn't, but if hospice were designated to include others who are not terminally ill, then you would have the elderly checking into hospice, private pay. And with the designation of persistent, vegetative and tube feed designated as life support, then you've got an "exit protocol" for those not terminally ill, but wishing to spare their families, and not wishing to suffer ~ whatever reason would be sufficient. All this is speculation on my part, but I don't think it would be too far off the mark.

You tell a person who is supposedly in a "vegitative" state to open their eyes repeatedly and they do - WIDE open, is that an indication that they are in a vegitative state?

It's one thing for completely random movements and such to occur, its a whole different story when the movements are obviously a REACTION to a stimulous
