My son is a USFS Helitack crewman based in Ramona, Calif. He's up to his neck in Julian and environs as we speak. Please pray for him!

This morning in Long Beach we could breathe fairly well. By noon, that had totally changed, and every breath was a stinky drag off a cigarette, and my eyes burned as though I was too close to a campfire.
By evening, the ocean breeze finally arrived. We get it around 4 pm daily, but don't get it at all during Santa Ana wind conditions, so we hadn't had it since before the weekend. I hope the cool air will help the FFs.

At the beginning of that flick, the epicenter was wagered by a bunch of firefighters and when the word came down they all groaned, "palllllmdale!?"
I lived in Palmdale at the time. BTW the movie never quite showed what such an epicenter at such a location might look like. I was okay with that.

SignOn did a good job of covering the areas they could get into. Posthill Road was also decimated. I dread the stories because of the bodies that will be found. The Chief medical examiner made the comment that he doubted all the back country folks got out in time. I am praying about that.

Good. Was it you who said at some point this afternoon that those hideous photos at Stevenson Ranch were hyped, that they had made the shots look more ominous and closer to the homes than they actually were? That provided me some comfort when I saw the TV coverage with the headline STEVENSON RANCH and that mountain of flame.

Local 8 just reported live that the fire headed toward Julian is slightly less than 2 miles and coming, but there is definetly a feeling of hope in the upcoming battle. ETA of fire is still 90 minutes or so.

I did see footage of Stevenson Ranch in the 11:00 news. It's not any different than that last time I saw it, around 6:00. I haven't even heard that they've lost a single home there.

Nice map.
Anyone heard anything on the extreme east wing of this fire, the seven oaks, Angeles Oaks area?

yes, those building codes up there are really strict with fire breaks, etc.
plus LA City Fire and LA County Fire have 200 engines in case something did happen.... a lot of public safety officials in Socal live in that neighborhood....
the news stations keep the FIRESTORM banner and use the camera angles to make you keep tuning in....my brother lives about four miles from that area....I know it well....
Now, if it was hotter with high Santa Ana winds, that might be a different story

Homes are threatened in Stevenson Ranch, but I haven't heard of losses, either... and according to a report with a firefighter, the homes there "aren't as severely threatened there as they are in other fire areas".
So I'd wager that Stevenson Ranch is alright at the moment.
