A Muslim group planning to build the Northeast's largest mosque has ties to an Egyptian cleric who advocates suicide bombing and an American Muslim lobbyist indicted in a Justice probe accusing him of terrorist financing.

Dr. Yusuf Abdullah al-Qaradawi, a vocal supporter of the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, and Abdurahman Muhammad Alamoudi, founder of the Washington, D.C.-based American Muslim Council, are linked to the Islamic Society of Boston, which has approval to build a $22 million Islamic cultural center and mosque in the city, according to an investigation by the Boston Herald.

The State Department barred al-Qaradawi from entering the U.S. four years ago because of his support of Hamas. Banned from his native Egypt for his leadership in the Muslim Brotherhood, he hosts one of the Middle East's most popular television shows on the al-Jazeera network. On the programs, he praises Palestinian suicide bombers as "martyrs," denounces U.S. support of Israel and encourages Muslims to support jihad as combatants or financial contributors.

Alamoudi, arrested Sept. 28 at Dulles airport in Washington, has been charged with receiving cash from the Libyan mission to the United Nations and failing to disclose numerous trips to Libya. He also has voiced support for Hamas, along with Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations.

The U.S. government alleges he funneled more than $230,000 to two front organizations for Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network and more than $100,000 to groups funding Hamas.

The Islamic Society of Boston insists it is not an extremist group, but Alamoudi is its founder and al-Qaradawi was a member of its board of directors from at least 1998 until sometime in 2001, according to public records, the Herald said.

The group identified al-Qaradawi as one of its four directors in its income tax return filed two months before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. His name did not appear in July 2002, however, when the group filed its 2001 income tax return, the Boston paper reported.

Al-Qaradawi also is involved in Bank al-Taqwa, accused by the U.S. Treasury Department of financing al-Qaida and other terrorist groups, the Herald said.

Albert Farrah, a lawyer for the Islamic Society of Boston, minimized al-Qaradawi's involvement in the society.

"He's not a director of the Islamic Society,'' Farrah told the Herald. "I know the trustees and have known them since 1993 and I've never met him. He has nothing to do with this project to my knowledge."

The group said in a statement to the paper it has a policy of "disallowing groups or individuals with extremist views from having any forum for their divisive and destructive rhetoric at the Society's mosque" in Cambridge, Mass.

The group said Alamoudi was one of its founding members, but "has had no role in, or affiliation with, the ISB for approximately 20 years.''

The Herald reported, however, most of the funding for the mosque project has come from the Middle East.

One source familiar with the project, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the paper nearly all the financing comes from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other Gulf states.

The Herald notes, almost without exception the financing of the many mosques and Islamic institutions in the U.S. by Saudis is tied to the strict, anti-Western Wahhabi movement of Islam.

"Saudis and Gulf financiers are strongly nationalistic and therefore will not give money to those who do not support their line of reasoning,'' Dr. Khaleel Mohammed, a religion scholar at San Diego State University who studied for eight years in Saudi Arabia, told the Herald.

Send them and their lawyer to Gitmo for the duration. They can pray there.

Duration is expected to be long. Until muslim terror stops.

Their fate is in their collective hands. Surely it wouldn't be wise to set any of them free, would it?

This Wahabbist mosque to be got a sweet deal from the chumps that run Boston--->

In May, the BRA sold the 1.9-acre lot to the group for the bargain price of $175,000, but construction has yet to begin. The Islamic Society of Boston's own newsletter said the land is worth $2 million.

BRA sounds like the Big Bertha of government waste and corruption

In 1957, the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) was established by the Boston City Council and the Massachusetts Legislature. The BRA assumed the development powers previously held by the Boston Housing Authority and expanded them beyond public housing. In 1960 the City Planning Board was abolished and its powers were transferred to the BRA.

The BRA's statutory authority was set forth in the Massachusetts General Laws, chapter 121B, section 4 in 1957 and Chapter 652, section 12 in 1960. Its broad development authorities include the power to buy and sell property, the power to acquire property through eminent domain, and the power to grant tax concession (under MGL chapter 121A) to encourage commercial and residential development.

The BRA's responsibilities include:

I know from first hand experience that the state of Massachusetts has numerous governmental authorities. Such as the Turnpike Authority, various city housing authorities. The MBTA covers Boston+suburbs transportation. The BRA is just another quasi governmental authority. The mayor/city councilors have influence over it but not total control. Numerous hacks, friends and relatives in need of jobs staff these authorities

Honest, western states such as Utah have very few if any authorities. It's mostly the corrupt, old, East Coast cities and states.

I read a book on Robert Moses, The Power Broker, by LBJ biographer Robert Caro. Moses was the king of this approach, with this Parks Commission. You are correct, it's a way of institutionalizing corruption, kickbacks, unaccountability, and for income producing endeavors like toll roads and bridges, skimming the cash off the top. You can be sure that all of the above are in play in Massachusetts. Moses served under something like 6 or 7 NYC mayors, none of whom had the clout to control him or fire him. Follow the money.

I know all about the book but doubt I would have the patience to read it. Caro writes massive tomes. I grew up in the NYC Robert Moses helped create. He did well, though I'm sure some of his projects were arrogantly destructive of neighborhoods. These "authorities" are rife in older states and cities such as New York, Massachusetts and Boston. They outlive the dubious mandate they were created for and seek to perpetuate themselves. All those huge bridges and interstates were by law supposed to have no tolls gates once they were paid off via tolls. This never happened because states and cities are greedy for money and find ways to circumvent the laws that created the authorities that run such toll roods.

There actually are honest western states such as Colorado and Utah where once a toll road has been paid off, the toll booths come down. Was quite a shock to me since I'm an East Coast kinda guy :)

The book was very hard to get through, (could have used much beter editing IMHO) but it was a fascinating read. I agree with all of your comments, basically the Northeast goes together with unions, corruption, kickbacks, organized crime and democrat machine politics. Not that some of these things don't exist elsewhere but they exist in spades in places like Boston and NYC. All of this amounts to a hidden tax on folks that choose or are forced to live there. I grew up in Boston, but live now in NC. NC isn't paradise, but it's a whole lot better IMHO than living amongst the Kennedys and their ilk.
