For anyone with a big dish...Fox News service G7-18 is down and they don't know how long until it's up and running. They have a recording telling us about it.
Bummers!!!!

Oh no!.
No update on Scott Petersen every two minutes? What will you do?
To: Ready2go
When I read the headline, I thought maybe Fox News hated my wife's oversized china. Wow, am I relieved.

For the uninformed, what's "G7-18"? Is it raw FOX footage that's sent to their local stations?

Howdy lelio...no it isn't a raw feed, it's just like what the rest of you get on cable or small dishes. G7 is just the satellite that beams it to us.

G7-18 = Satellite "Galaxy 11," transponder 18. It's just the regular FOX News channel for a C-band satellite dish. (Remember, those big ones? :) Not an unedited feed or anything.

So why wouldn't ALL those who watch FNC also have been blacked out?
Doesn't DishNetwork, DirectTV, and all the CABLE companies
across the country FIRST get their signal from G7-18,
and then REBROADCAST it onto their own equipment?
Is FNC available on any OTHER satellite or BAND?
(not counting the re-broadcasters like DishNetwork/DirecTV)

First of all, it may have just been a problem with the end-user subscription system, leaving "general public" consumers out in the cold. Second, I believe channels send up multiple feeds, G7-18 being only one up there. On several of the Ku-band satellites, there are huge digital packages uplinked that cannot be accessed by anyone other than commercial users (like cable distributors). Also, I believe many stations now send their signals to be uplinked via dedicated fiber optic. So there's a pretty good backup system.
