Howard Dean's wife Judith Steinberg accompanies Dean and their son Paul to a courtroom hearing last month. This was a rare public appearance by the former first lady of Vermont. Shown at right is a publicity photo released by the Dean Campaign.

No strawman, diddly. You figured that it was men making the characterization - I pointed out that that was an overinclusive generalization that you couldn't know for sure. I'm glad you agree on the different perceptions - what I was saying is you had no idea whether it was men making the point, and not women. It was you who set up a strawman - suggesting that it was just men remarking as they did just to make a point.
As I pointed out (and something you can't rebut) you have no idea that it was only men posting. The fact that I have a wider range of comprehension on matters like this speaks volumes for me.
The fact that you don't speaks volumes for you.
I mischaracterized nothing, sorry you felt that way. I was not responding to posts you left for others, just the ones you made me. My opening remark wasn't insulting at all, it wasn't intended to be - just relax.
BTW, in a related note, you have an habit of filling in blanks with thoughts/opinions that do not flatter you. Again, no idea where that comes from. Maybe you should do some self reflection, and see what you find. Self awareness and reflexive intellectual honesty are a good thing, you know.

My comment was (and remains) directed to the spluttering, finger-waving Mary Poppins-wannabes, hereabouts, who were/are shrilly admonishing others more desperately and fanatically, in Frau Steinberg's "defense," than any eight or ten pinheaded DU regulars you could pick, combined. Now why would you call her "Frau" Steinberg ?

Because she wants to keep her Halloween mask on all year.
She doesn't want to give Vermont syurp a bad name.

You said: Agreed. We were livid when the democrats and the lamestream media made disparaging comments about Katherine Harris, so how can we support acting this way towards Dean's wife?
I agree. There are legitimate issues concerning a potential first lady refusing to appear in public. We know that first ladies are expected to undertake any number of public responsibilities. To that extent, this is legitimate commentary. I don't think ridiculing someone's appearance is appropriate however. Of course, that has not stopped democrat and liberal commentators as you note, with regard to Katherine Harris, not to mention Rush Limbaugh, etc. We should rise above that sort of thing. Then again, this is a forum, and better to release those sorts of comments here than in "public."

Dr. Mrs. Dean, better than Vermont syrup!

I had absolutely no idea Dean was married to Chelsea Clinton's uglier sister.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but she looks pretty good to me. Maybe you're not getting older. Maybe you're going blind.

It is my opinion, because she looks like a million other Jewish womenAn admission that you actually have no hard evidence, coupled with an attempt at stereotyping. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Nice dodge of the central issue in the posting excerpted above.
Why not "Frau?" Maybe she's Ashkenazi. Try to keep your knee from jerking quite so noticeably, in the future.

Why not "Frau?" Maybe she's Ashkenazi. She is an American. Your use of German while denigrating this American Jewish woman is what is truly ugly. You think you get away with it by hiding behind your computer.

You think you get away with it by hiding behind your computer.I'M an Ashkenazi Jew, you silly, twittering little bit of cyber-fluff. I come from a family of Ashkenazi Jews... and none of the women therein, I assure you, take the word "frau" (which comes from our family's original language, in Germany) as an insult.
Please feel free to keep right on spouting off, ineffectually, on topics you know nothing about, however. You're only making yourself look that much more poorly educated and ridiculous, without my having to expend any energies of my own in the matter... and, quite frankly: I can always use the laughs.

Yeah, sure you are. Now, there's a devastating comeback, grounded in logic and a dispassionate, adult perspective.
This is kind of fascinating, actually (in a mordantly humorous sort of way, I mean). A real man would, instinctively, apologize for casting erroneous aspersions on another's ethnic or religious background, once made aware of that fact.
Huh.

You are the one attacking this American Jewish woman and seeking to denigrate her with your use of the German title. Now you claim to be a Jew too. Cute.

Feel free to check the history of my posted comments in this forum, buttercup... and then get back to me, once school lets out, re: this whole "claiming to be a jew" business, all right? You are, once again (quelle surprise!) spouting off, sans Clue One. Quit while you're behind.
The fact that you are (plainly) unfamiliar with Ashkenazi, on the other hand, tells me a good dealk more about your lack of Jewish roots than I imagine you might otherwise have intended. Again: hmmmmm.
