Mike Hasten / Louisiana Gannett News/Baton Rouge Posted on November 7, 2003 After starting off saying nice things about each other in a radio debate Thursday, gubernatorial runoff candidates Kathleen Blanco of Lafayette and Bobby Jindal of Baton Rouge wasted little time getting into squabbles over who is conducting a negative campaign.

Have you seen any more articles on the impact of the NO mayor's endorsement of JIndal?..will he campaign with him? Ya know..polss say the race is even..but given how accurate polls were in Miss and KY..it sounds like 55-45 for Bobby...BTW...where's Dona Brazile...these days.....the fact that she's NOT in LA is further proof, IMHO, that she's gonna run for Breaux's seat..he's gonna retire, I believe..Brazile won't take the chance of backing a losing candidate...it'll hurt her image....

I can't believe they don't say anything about Blanco's dead air time in the middle of the debate. That said more than anything else about Blank-o.

Donna Brazile would probably show up in New Orleans three or four days before the election so that she could quietly organized a get-out-the-vote effort to save "the democracy." I doubt that there would be a pre-announcement: better to keep the GOP off-guard. Brazile understands how to get minority voters to the polls: says she won't let the "white guys" win. Technically, under the census Jindal is "white."

Disagree on this, my friend...she won't come, for two reasons....first, if Jindal wins, while ashe's ont he ground..it tarnishes her rep..secondly..a Dem loss helps her to motivate the ground troops the next time out...I reiterate my convinction that she's gonna run, and ergo, that Breaux's retiring..and that he 's given ehr the heads up..because Donna could be pulling down big buck with any of the Dem candidates for president..and she hasn't....

I've heard several Democratic callers on the talk shows say that Nagin's endorsement definitely helped secure their vote for Jindal. Interestingly, some had already decided to vote for him anyway, which hopefully indicates the broad appeal I think he has. Also, if you believe polls, Verne Kennedy showed Jindal with a 7-point lead yesterday. In my view, that does reflect some impact from Nagin's endorsement.

As you may know, Mary Landrieu spoke out very strongly, criticizing Nagin for endorsing Jindal. Yesterday WWL's website survey was:

I thought that said a lot. Also, some of the previous survey results from this week are interesting as well.

As for Nagin campaigning, I heard his comments shortly after he made the endorsement. He said very enthusiastically that he would strongly campaign for Jindal. An example of this is his new TV commercial, which can be seen here on Jindal's website. (RealPlayer, 1.07MB file.) It is VERY good.

Thanks for the links...Mary's stilll explaining to the LA voters what happened to her seat on the Armed Forces committee...remember, she "guaranteed" that she'd keep it, during the debates..can't wait till she runs again....love to hear her explain that one...BTW..do you concur in my assessment that Breaux will retire, and that Brazile runs for the seat......

Also, Mary the RAT flip-flopped on Estrada too. I am SO pi$$ed that she won. (THANKS AGAIN, RINO FOSTER, FOR HELPING TO SCREW US AND THE SENATE FOR 6 MORE YEARS!)

As for Breaux, the prevailing opinion is that he will indeed retire. Donna Brazile, I'm not sure. We all know her from her last-minute electoral sleaze tactics, but I wonder if she has enough name recognition to appeal to the general RAT sheep population. Also, 2006 is a long way away. I think that the cesspool which is the DemocRATic party will be even smellier and deeper by then, and prevailing attitudes will shun them even more. This is true particularly after 2 years of Louisiana under Governor Jindal. (I like the sound of that!)

I think a fundamental shift is taking place almost everywhere in this country. With President Bush, people have seen a true leader, and his character and ideals are beginning to impact on many levels. Examples: Congressional results, GOP gubernatorial wins in CA, KY, MS, and next week, LA. Compare people like President Bush and Bobby Jindal to the pathetic clowns running for the RAT Presidential nomination. It is a profound difference. The insignificance and foolhardiness of the Clintons, and the entire RAT party, has been laid bare, and is apparent to everyone. Increasingly, it is only the far-left radicals who continue to spout their mantra.

I think all RAT candidates face a difficult time, and IMO, the chances of Gore and Landrieu's personal sleaze-doctor successfully running for LA Senator in the 2006 environment are small indeed.

I doubt she'll run. Rep. Chris John of Lake Charles is likely the pick of the Democrat establishment. I wouldn't put it past another Democrat to think he can win Breaux's seat and run, though.

Oops! I was thinking Breaux's term expired in 2006. I still think everything else applies.

Also, I'd forgotten about Chris John. If/when Breaux retires, it'll be Vitter vs John.
