Why must we pretend the 40th president was alert and engaged?

Why do you want this article removed?
If you disagree with it, defend your position (assuming you can). Welcome to Free Republic, you moron.
I hope your stay is a short and painful one.
This is not a playground for the drooling "progressive" neanderthals.
Try Democratic Underground (DU). More your speed.
If we spent time responding to every idiot rant, we would have time to do nothing else.
Let me introduce you to the Viking Kitties...

"though not as lengthy as the one overseen by Bill Clinton..."
Key word here is "overseen" by bill clinton. clinton inherited Reagan's economy...just like Bush has inherited clinton's economy. Oops, there I go, putting two-and-two together, and going completely over the liberals' collective heads.
Speaking of head, other than that, what great legacy did clintoon leave us all? I try and try to piece together some tiny scrap of a legacy, or just something that we can look favorably upon...but nothing comes to mind.
I will say this, however, I lived during the jimmy carter fiasco - laughingly called a "Presidency", and I remember how the cloud of imcompetence was lifted when he was defeated by Reagan, and American got her confidence and bearing back again.
I remember the left trying to prop up carter and invent him a legacy, just like they did/do clintoon. Everyone knew it was bullsh*t then, just like they do now.
Leaving carter and getting Reagan, AND, leaving clintoon and getting Bush, is like a finally getting the sun to shine after the doldrums of a demoncRAT in office.
All the RATS care about is the power, and getting elected, and the "chad fiasco" by the gore bunch shows that they will do anything to try and get to that power they crave.
So, you dipstick clintoon lovers can write all you want to try to disparage the Reagans, or any Conservative for that matter, but there are many of us who lived through it all, and are bright enough to see the difference...at least we know you are peeing on our shoes and trying to tell us it's raining.
I really don't see what the demeaning of a great man, who can no longer defend himself, has to do with anything, anyway. Oh, I know that bringing down conservatism is your goal in life, but as long as there is decency, and morals, there will be conservatives...you can bet on it.

Liberals (and cultural conservatives) would like to pretend that Reagan was somehow lucky instead of the greatest President of the last half century. The truth is bad for their agendas.

In the four years that I served as Secretary of the Treasury I never saw President Reagan alone and never discussed economic philosophy or fiscal and monetary policy with him one-on-one. Hey idiot maybe that is because the Treasury Department has NOTHING TO DO with fiscal policy, monetary policy, or economic policy. Duh. (Althought the author of the article may be taking the quote out of context. Hard to believe the treasury secretary would think his job entailed fiscal or monetary policy.)
To: CC Bonnocco
C'mon people.
Taking this idiot seriously by responding to his questions just validates the "progressive" loser strategy.
It is worth exactly zero. Unless you take the bait.

Even if what you are saying is true, that only proves that a good man with Alzheimer's is smarter than the entire Democratic party. Not exactly a thing to brag about.

My compliments on surviving this long and duking it out. Usually the mods pull the plug rather quickly, and when they don't the Lefty is a hit-and-run type. This is a rare treat!
By the way, you may want to look at this, very carefully:
Note the stagnancy from 1965 to 1983. The Dow was virtually never outside of the 600-1100 range... for 18 years!
Next note the change in the line's slope, in 1983. From 1000 to 4000 in just over a dozen years. That's the result of supply-side economics. Called "voo-doo" economics and Reaganomics by nay-saying Democrats, it is very clear that it worked. Sorry, but history simply isn't on your side.
(Of course, the Dow's day-to-day numbers are not a decent reflector of economic health, but a 40-year review of those prices certainly is an indicator.)

For those who don't know:
Economic Policy = Council of Economic Advisors
Fiscal Policy = US House, Senate, and President
Monetary Policy = Federal Reserve
and...
Treasury Dept=IRS, Secret Service, What color the money should be.

We owe so much to President Reagan.
Wouldn't it be ironical that those of us who love and respect him enabled him to reach out from his death bed for another victory over the left wing mediots.
That victory would be a clear signal that their ability to spin their lies about good men and women is now over.
