Charlie Daniels is a great American Conservative, Christian, and Southern Gentleman. I just got back from the Charlie Daniels Band concert and my what a show! As the lights dimmed, the crowd of mostly faded blue-jeans and t-shirt clad Americans chanted, "Charlie, Charlie....." After playing "Drinkin' My Baby Goodbye", Charlie stopped to thank everyone to come out and support the band and the crowd roared with appreciation. He played a few more songs including the boogie woogie classic"South's Gonna Do it Again" and paused for a moment. |

Charlie played "My Baby Plays me Just like a Fiddle" and "Caballo Diablo", where he and the band jammed.
Charlie wiped the sweat off his brow and addressed the audience again. He said there is one crime in this world that is intolerable and one that he can't stand: crimes against children. He urged his fans to spend time with their children, guide them, and pray with them for guidance. He also said the predators are organized and mentioned the disgusting group NAMBLA. He stated he would like to do to them what he does to his cattle every spring. CDB jammed up into the short but powerful "Simple Man."
After a short break, Charlie took the stage solo with his fiddle and played the Star-Spangled Banner. Hats came off and people sang along. The band joined him and performed beautifully. All the while some brothers in front of us held up Old Glory and Charlie saluted the flag, recognizing the flag and his beloved country. Then, he broke into "This Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag" - the people in Tennessee could have heard us sing the chorus: USA, USA, USA.
Charlie played so hard, he broke his bow! That's playing with feeling.
Charlie took a bar stool and sat with gave his personal testimony and said this was his favorite Gospel song: "How Great Thou Art" Lighters came out and across the dark audience - some people sang along, others just took it all in. It was a beautiful rendition of a great gospel song.
CDB Keyboardist Taz Di Gregorio sang a great blues song and Mark Matejka sang a fantastic Southern rock and blues song he wrote that was shades of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Charlie had a face off with each band member where he played a riff on the fiddle and the other instrument had to follow. First the bass, then electic guitar, and keyboard. Charlie playfully hit some notes on Taz's keyboard with his fiddle bow. Drummer Pat McDonald tossed up a drum stick and Charlie followed suit with his fiddle. When Charlie went back stage and came back with two fiddle bows, Pat was forced to bust some moves with both his drum sticks. The face-off really showcased the bands talent and how much they really enjoyed playing.
Charlie admitted that he was sorry Travis Tritt could not attend the show with him and sing "Southern Boy", but he did a great job covering Tritt's pieces. It was a crowd favorite.
Charlie recognized Johnny Cash and offered his humble and respectful thoughts on the country legend. He played an upbeat rendition of "Folsom Prison Blues" in Johnny's honor. Then the haunting "Legend of Wooly Swamp" with thick guitar and scary swamp tale.
Charlie closed with "Devil Went Down to Georgia" that got everyone dancing a jig!
Charlie Daniels is a Great American Conservative. It is so refreshing to hear a good message and see a good show!
God Bless Charlie Daniels and God Bless America!
Wooly Swamp is MY neck-o-the woods! My GG Grandad's farm and mill was on Wooly Branch. I knew Charlie played music with an uncle of mine, but didn't know CD new of THAT spot on Earth.
