The Filibuster Debacle
By Monty Rainey November 14, 2003
The scheduled 30-hour Senate filibuster of judicial nominations has ended, unsuccessfully, as we all knew it would. It appears the only thing accomplished by the filibuster was to bring the issue, once again, into the headlines and create more ammunition against the Democrat obstructionists.
As is usually the case, there is no shortage of imbecilic rhetoric spewing from the mouths of the filibustering (and I use the term loosely) Democrat Senators. Take for example, Chuck Shummer (D-NY), who claims the judicial nominees being refused an up or down vote are out of the mainstream. Oh, really? How is it then that Justice Janice Brown of California received over 75% of the votes in her last reconfirmation? How many of the filibustering Democrat Senators can boast such overwhelming support from their constituents? Judge Priscilla Owen received similar support from her Texas constituents.

If only more then a handful of elected Republicans had the back bone the average Democrat has.
Looking at the Owens case, for example, are claiming she and the 80-90% of the public that supports her position on parental notification are extremists.
For God's sake Republicans, when Democrats take such unpopular positions fight them on it! There is *no* possible loss for the Rep party to take the pro-position on this particular issue and it *will* cost the Dems in the polls.
Appoint every single obstructed nominee as a recess appointment. Trust me this is a no lose position.
The Rep party used to call the Dems on being soft on crime, communism, and supporting socialism. Yet now with a more balanced press (still not balanced yet though obviously) they are afraid to fight...

The filibuster enabled us to salvage something from the judges situation. Now the Republican Senate candidates can bang away at their rat opponents with lots of ammo.

It wasn't really a filibuster. It was an attempt at a filibusterbuster.

It was a publicity stunt, not a real filibuster.
Of course, the big-3 commie networks ignored it.
