U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., has amassed a mammoth war chest for his re-election next year even though he has no major opponent yet. But he should be scared: Rudy Giuliani could topple him, a new poll by Zogby International reveals. The survey shows the popular Republican former mayor of New York City beat Schumer 52 percent to 43 percent, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 points.
That's quite a feat, considering that in exit polls in 2000, Democrats outnumbered Republicans in the state 45 percent to 28 percent.
Dreier Won't Challenge Boxer
Meanwhile, there's good news today for one of the nation's most horrid senators. Rep. David Dreier, R-Calif., says he won't run against radical Democrat incumbent Barbara Boxer next year.
Dreier, a 12-term congressman and adviser to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, said he had been urged by people at the "absolute highest levels" to enter the race.
Opinion polls show Boxer vulnerable, but the GOP hasn't yet found a big name to run against her.

I'd rather he take out Hillary in '06. But I'd be happy either way.

Aren't many saying that Giuliani will run for Governor of New York?

As a matter of fact, they are.
I heard Pataki speak a few weeks before he was re-elected last year, and he basically said [without saying it, of course] that his 3rd term would be his last.
Giuliani has been the frontrunner for the GOP in the minds of most of us in the event that Pataki stands down.
I'd like to see him be governor, or I'd like to see him knock out Hillary (even though I probably won't be a New Yorker by 2006). But frankly, I think Rudy would be better off in an executive position (governor) rather than be one of many (senator). He is a natural leader.

I'm not sure Hillary is any more dangerous - or even AS dangerous - as Chuckie. A Bird in the hand and all that. If we can knock of Chuckie now, we go a LONG way in clearing the road of opposition to the judges we so desperatly need confirmed.
As much as I dispise Hitlery, I say we take out chuckie now and worry about her later (maybe run Pataki against her or something?)
I'll be sadly disapointed if the Pubies squander a chance to knock of Boxer.

Schumer would make the race about how "Giuliani will support Bush's out of the mainstream extermist judges", and probably win. Instead of refuting Schumer's characterizations of the judges, he'd probably get defensive and suggest he wouldn't support them either.

Pray that he doesn't make the mistake of running.
He'll be a bull in a china shop in that molasses pit known as the Senate. The Senate does not reward doers, it rewards slow attrition.
You imagine how great a Gov. Giuliani would be? or a US Attorney Gen. Giuliani?
I'd love to see Schumer ousted, but not at the expense of Giuliani's career.

'Bab's' Boxer v. Dennis Miller would be a fun campaign to watch!

I appreciate his leadership and would love him to take on Schumer or Hillary. Bottom line is I won't back him for president nor will most pro-lifers in the party.

I could be wrong but I see Schumer's agenda as a minor issue when compared to Hillary's. Her agenda is all about herself and at any cost to the US. She could give a hoot about NY or the rest of this country, she just wants to be the president. God help us if that ever happens.

Better yet...Bush/Giuliani2004 But what would I do with all the Bush-Cheney 2004 bumperstickers that I have?

Bah. Who cares about Schumer. Hillary is the one Rudy needs to run against.

, I think Rudy would be better off in an executive position (governor) rather than be one of many (senator). A better idea would be for Rudy to run against Scummer and knock him off. Then he can run for Governor and resign his seat when he wins. Pataki can then appoint a replacement for Giuliani's seat.
Hey! If the Dems can pull bait and switch tricks like they did with Lautenberg, why can't Republicans?

Schumer is a much more important target...it ends the scorched earth policy on the judges...and those judges will be around for 30 years...
I want him to take on Schumer...let Pataki deal with Hitlery.
