It's about re-electing our President.

Nothing else matters to our national security.

Dang, I am in shock for the first time since the Bush 2000 victory ... I saw the number "218 AGAINST" and thought it was defeated. That was 3am.

Don't you think there are seniors that have enough money to pay for their own, and WANT to ?

Yes. And they should absolutely be able to.

However, as far as I know this bill does not do that. It allows seniors to have their Medicare money put into a "private insurance plan" instead of Medicare. But where did "their" Medicare money come from in the first place? It is still funded by confiscation and redistribution.

Since belonging to AARP costs about $8 per year and the savings in hotel costs, and all the other benefits far far outweighs the cost I doubt very much if these cancellations will remain in effect.

You forget also the Medical Savings Accounts, which the Democrats dont like, and the medicare premium increases about $80,000 income level.

It's bizarre how the precise elements that make this bill worth considering are the provisions the Democrats are dead set against.

"I don't like the cost and absolutely do not like the "potential costs"..

I don't like the lack of private options in the Bill (a test in 2010 is just too lame for my taste)"

How about the principle? Is it okay to take from you and me at gun point (that the net effect of taxation and if you don't believe me, try refusing to pay. They will bring guns to get you.) to give to ANYONE else. I don't care how poor (or rich) they are. It's wrong.

There is also that little thing called the CONSTITUTION. Where is the authority for this crap?

BTW, when they come with their guns, I'll be waiting with mine.

I agree. They will get over their hissy-fit soon enough. The few that cancelled just don't want President Bush to win on anything.

I've never joined AARP because I always believed the costs far outweighed the benefits; they always seemed to lobby for government programs that were extremely costly both in dollars and freedom.

Daschle said he is completely opposed to the bill but will not call for a filibuster.

He did vote 'Aye' for cloture.

AARP is shilling for Republicans

Make no mistake the AARP are shilling for themselves the republicans Just happen to be the ones in power and pushing the bill if the dems were in power it would be no different ..... did people think that we weren'nt going to pay for all those great tax cuts in the long run. They could do away with the IRS period and would still find a way to steal money from the working mans pocket

I back George W. Bush but these policies the repubs are pushing in order to clear the table before the 2004 election is going to cost us more and all in the name special interest and vote pandering. This bill is bullshat and most americans if they decide to keep up with it like most of us on this site do know it well .

Screw that. I was born in a nation that was founded upon the idea that all men are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. One of these rights is to be able to enjoy the fruits of my own labor. Further, the Constitution was written to only allow the Federal Government certain, specified powers - among these is not the power to confiscate money from my paycheck to redistribute to others.

I live in that better country. The socialists have invaded and are destroying our freedom in this country. It is the socialists that need to move.

I judge an elected official not by their party affiliation, but by what they are doing to protect and restore my God-given freedoms. The Republicans failed miserably last night - well, except for a handful. I'm pleased to say that Rep. Jeff Flake, R-AZ voted against this socialist monstrosity. I applaud his brave stand as he voted against it, not because he wanted more socialism like the Democrats do, but because he recognized just how socialist this bill, this new massive entitlement, is.

My take on Daschle is always the same. He doesn't call for a filibuster ONLY when he doesn't have the votes to carry it out. I heard from various sources that the bill will pass in the Senate quite easily. So, Daschle doesn't want to stick his neck out and then lose. If he had the 60 votes, he would filibuster...it's what RATS DO these days.

Interesting. I heard that President Bush was up before dawn calling House members and got two Republicans to change their vote.

It's not "undocumented immigrants", it's "illegal" immigrant as in criminal. Please, if we use their PC language it changes the nature of the debate.

If a crook broke into your home would you call him an "undocumented guest"?

Medicare legislation moving through Congress would give hospitals at least $1 billion over the next four years to cover the spiraling costs of providing emergency services for undocumented immigrants.

And bank robbers are simply "Undocumented Customers".
