As heard on the hourly update from 1450 WSRQ in Sarasota, FL...

The Lakewood Ranch Neighborhood Association encourages it's residents to put up "holiday" displays that are not offensive to others. They have banned the display of religious, human or mythical characters and only wish that lights are displayed. Holly Wells, the President of the neighborhood association, states that she wants "tasteful" displays which are not offensive to other's beliefs.

Somehow, I don't think you and your G3A3 are really going to fit in...

More credit to you, of course...

I'm glad political correctness hasn't made it where I live yet. People have nice Christmas decorations out all over the place just like always. It's nice still living in the old America.

Every year my neighbor (we are in a duplex) puts out the most horrific looking circa 1957 4 foot high, lighted plastic snowman with faded features and a matching faded plastic Santa affecting a slightly queer pose. I'm sure he puts it out to please his little grandkids, of which he has many. It is truly hideous. I would never tell him to scrap it. DH and I laugh about it every year and hang a simple stocking on the front door - to balance. The neighbor is a good man, plastic yard crap and all. People need to lighten up.

Lights offend me.

I wonder if she would feel that someone riding by her house, and mooning her, is "tasteful."

"The only opinions that count are those of the residents of Lakewood Ranch, and they are all probably well-aware of this issue already."

That comment is beyond moronic.

"Hence your post only serves to denigrate self-governance by inviting people from all over the US to send in emails to them to tell them how to run their own affairs."

Obviously you've never dealt with a neighborhood association. I guess the Nazi party is acceptable in your world too.

But they need to read the agreement. I will bet you it doesn't say anything about no religious displays.

I live in a VERY strict deed restriction area, there are all kinds of christmas displays. I knew when I moved in I was not allowed signs, etc, but Christmas lights are not covered on there. All kinds of religious displays are all over the neighborhood.

The restriction are supposed to be voted on by members of the community. I am sure it will come up at the next meeting, if it is getting that kind of news coverage. And if the homeowners vote these restrictions in, well, then the people living there have to decide if they want to live in a neighborhood of scrooges.

"What does it take to offend others today. Every jackass inhabited by spite and wanting to be a center of importance is easily offended by everything."

You mean every leftist is easily offended by everything pure and good.

the email is off. The banning of religous and secular displays from private property is unconstitutional, and they will lose.

A big reason I won't live in any of these zillion dollar developments and their associations.

My dream home is 20 acres in the country.

I was seriously thinking about moving there. Now, I'm shopping out in the boonies again. I'll gamble with floods over Nazis any day of the week.

"Where did this sad excuse for an Americaqn come up with the notion that my tradition, expressed on my own private property, is offensive to my neighbors."

Call the toll free number or email them and ask them. I'm sure they would love to hear from you. (snicker)

e-mail sent:
info@lakewoodranch.com

Dear Lakewood Information minister,

America has degraded to this "walk on eggshells" politically correct approach to everything, and Lakewood is the embodiment of this sad display. Where in the constitution does it say that no one in this country is allowed to be offended ? I don't think it is in there. However, there is a freedom of religious persecution in this country, but apparently the great minds of Lakewood Ranch don't agree.

You are being held captive to the chronically offended and find no problem with that.

I am embarassed for you and the other Lakewood residents.

I will be offended if you don't respond to my e-mail, so that must gaurantee me a reply -- because you surely don't want to offend anybody, right ?

Thanks,

My dream home is 20 acres in the country.

Mine is a 100 acres in the Adirondacks, but after reading stories like this 20 will do just fine.

Give it time. After all, isn't Frosty the Snowman somewhere in the Bible, thus offensive?

Well, you are free to support the Nazi Party if you want to since it's a free country, but us conservatives believe in self-governance.
