I agree. I'm considering sending a nasty e-mail to the reporterette who interviewed him. He was in no condition, and he doesn't deserve to be put in that position on national TV.

I saw the Joe Namath interview in its entirety and it wa clear that Joe was hammered! He was leaning towards the woman and trying to kiss her and she kept backing away. He was slurring his words and very incoherent. Also, Joe looked like he was 80 years old. Broadway Joe has definitely put some mileage on the odometer. Looks like he's done some hard living since he hung up his spikes.

Anyway, Joe Namath reminds me a lot of Bobby Orr. Both athletes revolutionized their games and for a few short years, they were the very best. But then their knees gave out and their careers were prematurely cut short. Only difference is Bobby Orr still looks like he's 30 years old, even today.

Good game tonight. The Pats have now won 11 straight games by 14 points or less. Five interceptions on Chad Pennington.

The New York Post is going to be all over this tomorrow (Joe Namath AND the five picks on Chad).

What? Someone was drunk at a football game?

No, never. I only take in the schnapps for medicinal reasons...

I grew up a Giants fan...Fran Tarketon..( Fred Dryer..Joe Morrison..Homer Jones.etc)..and for every New Yorker who loved Joe Namath, there were two that hated him...like me....

btw....he always talked half-cocked....

I think what people percieve as "coolness" has been a imaginative use of drugs and alcohol.....

his wife and child left him?....bo hooo....

It did though put the AFL on the map.

Ouch!

Chiefs Fan

Did you ever think that if the Chiefs won Superbowl I, it would be called the "Stram" trophy?

Joe was my hero as a teen growing up. What a poozle magnet. My old man was the flat top generation and he hated Joe with a passion. "God damed girl, get a haircut", him and my uncle would shout at the Jets game on TV.

Best passer I've ever seen. One evening on the Tonight Show Carson had a swinging tire at about 30 yards and Joe buried every pass with a football. Try it some time, it has to be a perfect spiral to go through and you lead has to be perfect. I know, I tried it for years.

Remember when Bama lost to Texas in the Orange Bowl when Tommy Nobis stopped Joe on a sneak at the goal line. They tried to give Joe the MVP trophy for the game and he refused it because they lost?

I've never heard about the MVP trophy but Namath didn't even enter the game until Alabama was behind by two scores. I do have the radio broadcast of the game by NBC Radio and the official Orange Bowl film however. The film gushes over Joe so much that you'd thought his given name was "The Brilliant Joe Namath". The winning QB got no such praise from whoever wrote the film. A little aside is that the Texas team that beat Bama featured Namath's future Jet teammates George Sauer, Pete Lammons and Jim Hudson.

Nice analogy. The same applies for Gale Sayers, except he never won a championship, but, for a few seasons, they all did incredible things.

Gawd, you're right. I remember the Coke and bag of Golden Flakes on the desk in front of him...and a very nervous "host" watching the Bear very carefully as he discussed the game film. Those were classics.

Her contrived voice, aahaa!!!. Did she learn how to articulate like that at communication school like all the Syracuse broadcast majors do and Emerson majors do as well? I am sick of the gruff female voice and the pronunciation of college as "callege".

Didn't see it, but cut him some slack.
His team hasn't won a Super Bowl since 1969 and he is the only person the media goes to to hang the glory on!!

I saw Joe Willy tonight live on ESPN, and here's what happened.

ESPN suddenly goes to the sidelines and there is Namath, looking good in a green number 12 Jets jersey over his shirt or sweater. He is asked a question by the cute sports reporter, and he smiles at her longingly, and sort of rocks side to side. He gives a long, slow, deliberate and rambling answer to the question. Good technique to avoid the slur! His eyes were either glazed or squinted, and he was chewing gum, and I thought right then that he was drunk. Although I couldn't tell for sure, I think his hands were in his pockets. The sports cutie asked another question and he looked at her with a nice smile, head cocked to one side, and said, "I wanna kiss you..." It was so funny! What makes it worse, was that after the next play ended, the ESPN crew goes right back to the reporter for another quick comment from Joe - only this time just audio; the camera stayed on the field of play. She asked her question and Joe melts under her seductive spell, joyfully answering, "I wanna kiss you!"

That was Joe's most memorable performacne in a Jets jersey in over 30 years! He probably had a bigger TV audience tonight than when he won the Super Bowl.

For the record, Joe is working right now on finishing up his degree at the Univ of Alabama. One of his buddies recently told him that he should complete his degree, and that inspired him. He only needs 15 credits, I think. He selected a class in American Studies on Vietnam, and a creative writing (independent study) course.

I always liked him and nothing I saw tonight changed that.
