Missing Woman's Fetus Identified At Hospital Authorities Locate Mother's Body
POSTED: 4:14 PM CST December 26, 2003 UPDATED: 9:55 PM CST December 26, 2003
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police are trying to piece together the events that led up to the demise of a local woman whose dead fetus was taken to an Oklahoma hospital.
Police said 22-year-old Carolyn Simpson, of Carrollton, Mo., disappeared after leaving an Oklahoma bingo hall Monday night. She was last seen with 37-year-old Effie Goodson. On Friday, Simpson's body was found near Lamar, Okla. Police said the fetus had been cut from Simpson's body.
Tuesday morning, Goodson took a fetus to a hospital in Holdenville, Okla. Doctors examined Goodson and determined that she had not given birth recently, KMBC reported. Police believe the fetus is Simpson's.
Goodson is in police custody. No charges have been filed, but Goodson could face first-degree murder charges, KMBC reported.
A memorial fund has been set up in Simpson's name. To donate, or for more information, contact:

Was this woman claiming she gave birth? It sounds like it, since she took the baby to the hospital and then let the doctors examine her.

Should be charged with a double murder, but sadly, won't.

Should be charged with a double murder, but sadly, won't.On the contrary, I'm sure she will. That is exactly what Scott Peterson is facing in California: Double murder charges because he killed his pregnant wife.

Scott Peterson's trial may very well be thrown out, because of the charge in regard to the fetus.
The American Judiciary have now gone far enough, that the Ninth Circuit will not be able to find Constitutional protection for Lacy's fetus, it, after all is said and done, not being life according to these judges.

"On the contrary, I'm sure she will. That is exactly what Scott Peterson is facing in California: Double murder charges because he killed his pregnant wife." Hope you're right. It would indicate there is some sensibility to our laws.
But what likely follows, if the double murder charge sticks, will be the ability to charge abortionists with murder.
Yes, I know the argument regarding mother's consent. But it's still a chink in the false armor of the Roe decision.

Where are you guys reading that she had the dead woman's consent. It sounds more like she murdered the mom for the baby. Having the baby cut out would imply a cesarean birth. I don't think mom would go along with that willingly.

My only wish would be that people of no morality had mothers that were just as immoral and had simply trashed the "fetuses" that these reporters were. But unfortunately, their mother's thought of them in the womb as BABIES - real live human babies. NOT as mass of inconsequential tissue that these reporters really deserve to be called.

Appalling!

I'm sure Effie desperately wanted a FETUS, so she murdered her pregnant pal just to get the FETUS for herself, so she could show everyone her beautiful new FETUS and dress it up in FETUS clothes.

The influence of NOW on AP style has got to be reversed. This is ridiculous.

I wrote to the news station about the use of the term "FETUS" --- Here's their reply:
Hi,
I'm glad you took the time to write us. I think it is essential in this
story to clarify that the child had not been born, and therefore the term
fetus is technically and scientifically correct in this situation.
The facts of this story are disturbing enough in and of themselves, and I
understand that it is easy to be emotionally affected by news such as this.
But it is my job to make sure the facts are clear before the emotional
elements of any story can be considered.
I think it's also significant to mention that one of Carolyn Simpson's
family members wrote the station expressing gratitude for our coverage of
this story and for posting the information about the memorial fund.
Sincerely,

Thanks for your effort.
At least the family anticipates getting some money now that the story about the loss of the woman and her fetus is public. Apparently that's the meaning of compassion and sensitivity.
