A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos) 1.5.04

Pres. Bush traveled to St. Louis to promote his "No Child Left Behind" education law. Pres. Bush spoke at the Pierre Laclede Elementary School, which he said in his Saturday radio address had risen "to meet our new standards."

Pres. Bush also visited with about 50 fourth-graders. One asked Pres. Bush if he had wanted to be president when he was a child.

"No," Bush told the children, all nearly a decade shy of voting age. "It can be pretty hard." Still, he called his job "a very rewarding experience" and took credit for "a world that's more peaceful, (where) more kids are learning to read."

He also appeared at his first campaign fund-raiser of the year, adding to a record total of more than $110 million in contributions for a primary race in which he has no Republican opponent. Pres. Bush now has $120 Million in his campaign bank account.

On Thursday, the second anniversary of the signing of the No Child Left Behind Act, Pres. Bush will hold a similar event at West View Elementary School in Knoxville, Tenn. Both events are paired with re-election campaign fund-raisers.

If it gets too thick, just spoon out your bowl and put a pat of butter on top. Not good for the diet, but YUMMY!!!

I'd love to see the recipe--but do NOT hurt yourself looking for it.

You mentioned you had the sniffles? Nothing better than a great big glass of Orange Juice mixed with a great big glass of peach schnapps. :-) Get your vitamin C and your rest vitamin all at the same time. :-)

I din't know that about the paprika, either--THANKS for the info! I'm anxious to try this.

***Blonde, fatigued moment***

Don't worry about it--I know what you mean! :-)

You probably posted this but I don't remember--in what area of work is your expertise (or "expertises"?) I think I remember you saying you once had your dream job and were looking for another--what would it be? Anyone here might know somebody who knows somebody . . .

You ARE in my prayers for answers--isn't it a blessing to feel at peace with a troubling situation? God blesses us with friends we can "talk" to His peace and reassurance. I've felt it lately too.

Yes I have some medical training..
CNA 23 years
CMT-20 years
CRMA-5 years
Medical Transcription-pending

This job requires BCLS certification, wonder how fast I could obtain that? It's just an 8 hour course...
Job requirement in the paper says basic education and the ability to speak English (I love that!)

The website says BCLS certification and must be able to graduate to Surgical Technician in one year..

Think I should go ahead and apply?

The hours are terrific..11am to 7:30 pm...right up my alley!

You have a LOT of training! Have you ever thought of going to nursing school? If you have, I have a lot of advice. :-)

As for the BLS training, I used to teach CPR! I'd suggest calling your local community college to see if there's a class going on, and/or ask for the names of the instructors--I used to teach private classes for people like yourself who needed it fast (and it never took the whole 8 hrs!)Don't worry about having it done before you apply; just tell them you're working on it--heck, maybe the hospital will offer a class, depending on how they do inservices and orientation.

And of COURSE you should apply! After all, if after the tour and interview, if you don't want to take the job, you don't have to! What do you have to do to be a Surgical Tech? That was one rotation in school I just did NOT like. I did see a heart surgery and it was absolutely fascinating. But being an OR nurse did NOT appeal to me.

Good luck!

I didn't know that! (about the butter) For me, butter is my friend, since I'm on Atkins for life. I can eat only a leeeetle bit of this soup at a time due to the carbs. But oh my, it is sooooo good.

Thank you for your appreciation of the Dose. I love doing it.

We seem to have gotten the Ohio weather earlier than the weather guys said. It moved in this afternoon, with incredible winds and chill. Brrrrrr! The good news though is that it's going to be sunny tomorrow, although still windy and cold but the rain/snow/sleet they forecast are out of the picture.......until Friday, I guess. I'd like to miss that precipitation completely. I'm ready for Spring.

Boy, I sure hope that new job is further South. I'm tired of snow, ice and cold.

So has the Atkin's worked for you? My dear husband desparately needs to lose some weight but he's a BEEF lover and a veggie hater. Not very willing to make any lifestyle changes . . . but I think if he did something that made a difference, and could see some changes, he'd be very motivated.

Bingo on numbers 3 and 4.

Soros, who's dabbling into the currency markets has caused governments to fall, has put $15 Million into moveon. org. He is "determined" to see Pres. Bush defeated in November.

He most likely will throw more money at the "problem" if needed.

That's why we are all getting "grass roots appeals" from Pres. Bush, the Bush/Cheney campaign organization, and the RNC. The idea is that $5, $10 and $25 contributions from all of us will more than match Soro's 15 Million dollars, and we will help keep Pres. Bush as President.

It just fries me something fierce that Soros is using his millions to support Democrats because he is basically a Socialist himself. He just can't tolerate anything that Pres. Bush does - not tax cuts, not war on Terror, not anything.

The guy is a kook. If you saw a picture of him, not to be callous about physical appearance, he is crazy and determined to succeed.

We must stop him.

Systems Engineering - I do everything except program. Functional design, training, testing, installation, maintenance, and any manuals having to do with any of the above.

I've worked different projects; can't really say here in an open forum, but will provide more information via FReepmail.

I'm hoping that the "missile shield" project (Starwars to us Reagan lovers), which was awarded to Northrup Grumman with Raytheon as prime subcontractor has a job for me.

Anyone with contacts at Northrup Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, BEA Systems, I'd appreciate the help!

Homemom, thanks for asking.

This recipe is from "The Enchanted Broccoli Forest" by Emily Katzen...

3 medium potatoes
3 cups cleaned chopped leeks
1 large carrot chopped
4 cups water
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk (I prefer heavy cream)
freshly ground black pepper
(I also like to stir in freshly grated Parmesan cheese right before serving)

Scrub potatoes and cut into chunks.
Place in pot with the leeks, celery, carrot, water and salt.

Bring to boil, cover and cook until the potatoes are tender (about 20 minutes).

Remove from heat, and let cool until it's no longer too hot to puree.

Puree the soup in a blender or food processor.
Return the puree to the pot and stir in the milk (cream)
(I also stir in Paremesan cheese at this point)

Add freshly ground black pepper, adjust salt to taste..

Serve hot or cold (I prefer mine hot!)

You can sprinkle fresh basil on top of the soup before serving.

I serve this with good crusty bread and a nice salad...

Enjoy!
