BG is too busy holding Snuggles the Bear hostage during the FReepathon.

I acccused her of trying to find bear recipes for cooking Snuggles (along with holding Logan's Puppy) but she swears that Snuggles has put on weight since the last a-thon.

WOW! Our President looks stunning today -- of course, he's always at his best when interacting with children!!!

You can watch a brief videoclip of his classroom visit at

Yes he does look great! Need a fan??? Or just come to NE--it's about 2 degrees and breezy--windchill down to -20 tonight. THAT should cool you off! :-) But when I look at that "in a muscle shirt and shorts, playing with Barney" picture . . .

Man, that was no request. It was an order from the Lead Mod. Thank God that FR is so great. I want to read the threads about imigration, but between the libertarians who want EVERYBODY let in, and the hate-filled whoevers who want to put EVERYBODY who didn't arrive on the Mayflower put out, I gave up. Now, it should be safe to start learning from those threads again.

Well if they put descendants of Illegal out, I'm out of here. Some of my ancestors came from Germany in the 1840's but the snuck in through Mexico.

If that shot had been in sharp focus, and a little tighter on the President and the little girl, it would have been number 1. I argued with myself (didn't lose any arguments) about the two, and finally decided to go with the one of him shaking hands with the child.

I also argued about the one with the President with the little girl with her hand raised behind him - I loved that she was either trying to get his attention or mimicing him.

I agree with everyone here who has said that he's great with children. He is so natural with them, and I think that that's because he's real, and he just acts that way with them, and they know it; they know he's being genuine with them.

Gosh, I love this President. I would so like to know him as a personal friend. Sigh. Big sigh.

I would like to take advantage of this auspicious occasion to intoduce...er...to remove the word, "WOW!" from my tagline. It's been following me around since last evening. If anyone knows to whom it belongs, would you advise that person that I do NOT intend to feed it anymore.

Oh, you are SO right, kitkat.

I am very interested in the immigration issue, and what the President is doing and is going to do about it, but there is so much poison on every immigration thread that I can't stand to go on them.

I wonder if the haters and one-issue folks realize that they are not convincing ANYone of their position, and most likely turning many away......or if they care.

I was listening to Rush today and he played a new TV ad--can't remember the name of the group--but it was the sound of Hitler's voice, and Rush said pics. of Hitler, interspersed with things Bush had said, obviously comparing Bush to Hitler. Scary, really, that people hate him (Bush) so much (and maybe fear him too???).

Yes, there's something about that muscle shirt pix . . .

There's also something about our President's character and leadership, as evidenced by the following article:

BUSH MAKES DEMOCRACY POPULAR ISSUE: HONG KONG
By J. Grant Swank, Jr.
Jan 2, 2004, 12:05

Iraqi Freedom Operation with its three-week win war has challenged humans yearning for freedom to take to the streets — demanding their own democracy.

As New Iraq plants its democracy for the first time in a Muslim environs — after three decades plus of horrific persecutions against the populous leveled by the despot Hussein — Hong Kong joins other countries in demanding "return power to the people."

The New Year’s Day chant filled the streets as thousands upon thousands stomped throughout Hong Kong. They were declaring that democracy has to be planted in their country or else. One hundred thousand freedom champions moved from a park area to the governmental headquarters.

According to FoxNews, "The demonstration was seen as a crucial barometer of public sentiment, exactly six months after a half-million people took to the streets denouncing an anti-subversion bill proposed by the Hong Kong government, and backed by Beijing as a threat to freedom. ‘We have made history again!’ said rally spokesman Richard Tsoi, adding the march showed that the so-called ‘people power’ movement hasn't faded away. ‘It clearly shows that Hong Kong people still have a very strong desire for full democracy,’ he said. Thursday's turnout exceeded predictions by organizers, who said earlier that people would have less impetus to protest this time.

"’Democracy is something we need to maintain a fair society,’ said 40-year-old Connie Yau, a civil servant. Since coming under Chinese rule in 1997, Hong Kong has enjoyed Western-style freedoms unheard of on the mainland, but remains only partially democratic."

United States President George W. Bush, derided by his opponents as a control freak in political disguise, has instead shown himself to be the stalwart worldwide leadership for liberty. Across the world, those who have dreamt of democracy are now shouting to the skies that they are going to have it — now and forever.

This is quite a start for a global new year. Freedoms are now waving their banners from continent to continent. Liberty has become the primary issue of the masses. Tyrant Saddam Hussein’s capture has painted him as the poster child of shame.

Now populations can witness what indeed can be done to a dictator who shreds his own people. Now one nation after another can pick itself up from the shackles to demand release — fresh breezes of democracy instead of cages filled with crying mortals.

What if President Bush had wilted, given in to those taunting him, caved in to those clamoring for his demise? What if the President had been a less a moral leader than his heart proves him to be? What if the President had relied on poll takers rather than his own conscience for his daily agenda? What if his team members had played mutiny to liberty’s cause? What if they had played the coward?

Then the world would have been stymied in despair, continuing on its way, forced to tolerate one bloodletting despot after another. Then the world would have been fooled into concluding that liberty is only for the few, democracy really isn’t a possible politic, and the masses may as well give into power cliques out to murder their own.

But the US President has remained on course. Others are following his example. On this New Year’s Day what is powerfully encouraging is to witness throngs of human beings crying out for their own democracy — a fully equipped democracy for their everyday lives.

Thank you, Mr. President.

I'd love to read up on those issues, but I stay away because they get so inflamed between the extremes.

I'd like a non-inflamatory version, for those of us who are still uninformed on certain aspects of the issue.

Truthy, you never need to argue with yourself about pictures of our wonderful President! Each of you (who post the pictures) always choose outstanding ones!

I would love to know both he and Laura personally. I bet they'd be easy to get to know.

Would anyone here be hostile to discussing the issue non-inflamatory, here, tonight? with just us?

If such, I promise to be on my best behavior.....
