OK, so maybe poking fun at the National Rifle Association for holding its 2004 convention in our city after a year where we reached record numbers of gun murders was too easy -- like duck-hunting with an AK-47.
So it wasn't a shock to receive angry letters from members. But what did rattle the old mental re-loader was how gender-specific the whole gun control argument has become.

I think I can honestly say, that as a woman, I totally disagree with this guy--LOL! What a maroon.

I think this article actually comes from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, for anyone who cares. That's our conservative-ish paper.

Funny how people's tone changes after a gun saves their home, person or property.
Idiot lefties.

But let's be honest: Do any of us know of anyone who wasn't, say, a cast member of "Bonanza" or an Iraqi who recently defended their homestead with a firearm? For further information, consult the Armed Citizen column published monthly by the NRA, or your local Police Blotter.

But when danger comes to call, many have the gun-armed police on speed dial. I expect that bad guys know this and cut the phone lines first.

After having read this, I can absolutely agree with his premise in one case: His.

Yeah, this guy is a leftist idiot. Good way to put it. I forgot to add that this guy is signifigantly to the left of the editorial board of the Trib. On the whole they're a good paper.

Me too! My 17 year old daughter and I each received a gun for Christmas. They were by far our favorite gifts.

"The NRA is like the Boy Scouts for grown men who like to romanticize themselves as John Wayne fighting off the enemy in some movie. It's just a scam that scares men into spending money they don't have on expensive guns," wrote Yvette Castigliano, of Ambridge, Beaver County. They probably see it as a better investment than spending money they don't have on expensive wives.

Nearly every man I heard from claimed to own guns to "protect my family" or to ward off some ambiguous evil. But let's be honest: Do any of us know of anyone who wasn't, say, a cast member of "Bonanza" or an Iraqi who recently defended their homestead with a firearm?1986. Running a rooming house, co-owned with my older-woman girlfriend. I was attacked by a run-amuck visitor who beaned me with a steel pipe. He was still running after me, with the pipe raised, when I ran into the office and wheeled around with the shotgun.
If this author had his way, I'd be dead.

I couldn't quite figure out exactly what the name of the source was--it's a bit confusing.
There is an opportunity to respond to the article on their website, though.
If this is your "conservative-ish" paper, I sure don't want to see the liberal one, though, LOL!

No, this guy is their Token Liberal Columnist. Take a look at the editorial page, if you have nothing better to do. It's no Washington Times, but pretty good...

I've never actually tried this, but I sincerely doubt it would be easy at all. Classic example of someone who quite literally doesn't have a clue about what firearms are or how they work, but still insists on writing about them, and expects to be taken seriously.
Even a cursory amount of research would have told him that an AK is a rifle, and that people seldom hunt ducks with a rifle, and that there is a good reason for this.

BTW, I required 6 stitches, and since it was a scalp-level wound, you can imagine how nasty that was.
No concussion or fracture, though.

I'll bet his injuries were a tad more serious.
Good job. These sort of resolutions you won't hear about unless spun as 'another death by a gun.' What would they prefer... 'man sacrifices using gun for betterment of mankind..."???
