Katherine Harris Planning US Senate Run
Drudge ^

Watch your makeup compact, Hillary, Florida's Katherine Harris may have her eyes on the United States Senate, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

MORE

Against the apparent wishes of senior Bush strategists, Harris has decided in her heart and mind that she will seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat, sources close to Harris tell DRUDGE.

"She wants it, wants it badly!" a top source said Thursday. "She'll make her decision public within the next week."

The source, who has daily contact with Harris, cautions the congresswoman still could hold back and not make the run, in deference to the president and his brother's wishes.

Sarasota County's GOP chairman, Tramm Hudson, said he spoke to Harris Tuesday night and that she seemed ready to run, according to reports. Harris continues to be one of the party's top fund-raisers.

Elsewhere, Texas Senator Kay Hutchison has reportedly advised her republican counterpart to "Go for it!"

If elected Harris would join a select group of women ever to serve in the United States Senate.

MORE Harris advisers dispel any notion that bad blood still runs in Florida over Harris's role in the 2000 election drama.

"Look, Governor Bush handily won re-election last year, after 2000, and the state's voters did not punish him," notes one top Harris strategist who asked not to be named.

"And they will not punish Katherine. The senate campaign will be on the issues, and electing the best person to represent Florida in the senate!"

You know what? I find I'm wasting a lot of time and going nowhere with you. We don't have a very productive chemistry. Feel free to say hi to me from time to time, but I think I'm done for the night here.

In my opinion he's a nothing who has infested this thread with bogus claims, unsupported theories and fraudulent numbers.

His theories are supported by accurate numbers. Your opinions are based on neither, and your 20% comment indicates you are either lying through your teeth or are commenting on things you have not bothered to research, which is no more honest. In either case, this discussion is over. Your side of the discussion is not serious, and thus any further discussion with you is a waste of my time. Good day.

I probably shouldn't have delved down to that low of a level in the discussion, but I don't think being called a fraud is any less insulting or demeaning. If he was trying to get on my nerves he has succeeded.

I posted the raw vote totals for all to see and still he insists those counties not being included were some huge deal and meant you were trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Heck, they even validate your percentages and you are still being called a fraud. I mean, one can have a different opinion based on the same data for political analysis, but to simply sit back and say "You're lying about the numbers" when you aren't doesn't exactly indicate his motivation was an honest discussion of the facts.

Maybe I'm wrong and we were all just miscommunicating, but reading back over the posts I don't see that. I don't recall ever getting into this kind of a conflict with this poster or him having a reputation for doing that, though, so this discussion is quite puzzling.

Anyway...I try to avoid carrying conflicts over to other threads, so perhaps the next meeting with CBG won't be so confrontational.

Nope. There was some one-sided something-or-other on someone's side. No names, no blame, of course.

>>>While I don't support President Bush's proposal myself, this isn't a strong argument against it, I must say.

LOL I didn't use it as an argument for opposing the Bush proposal. It was strictly a rhetorical comeback, against a desperate and convoluted personal attack. You took it out of context.

I never said he wouldn't be. He's only 39. Give him time. I think he'll end up serving as governor after being in the Senate for 12 years or so. He'll be able to run for president then. He'd make a good VP in the future, no doubt. Judd Gregg would, too.

"Texas Senator Kay Hutchison has reportedly advised her republican counterpart to "Go for it!"

Thus emphasizing that Kay Bailey is more a RINO than we'd like.

More to the point, could Katherine Harris run for Senate here in TEXAS?

The Prez needs more votes than the Republicans. He needs the undecides, and sorry to say, right now, Katherine drives them away in droves. Give her time, and she can win a Senate race, but in this Presidential year, it is poison for everyone.

Who are you...Dick Morris? This is the dumbest thing I've ever read.

Bush will win Florida...because it's a growing conservative state. Look at the trends for the last few elections.

That data from Sarasota County especially concerns me. She would need to do better there in a statewide race than that to counter Broward and Palm Beach.

What? So in your eyes she needs to score 60 to her opponents 40 to win. Hogwash. She'll carry the state because most of the state is conservative, AND conservatives vote. People are making far to many assumptions about polarizing the lazy Dems that don't vote. BTW, screw Broward and Palm Beach, they won't be able to pull their cheating crap again this year. The vote tallies will be more realistic this time.

Sorry, but it's RealPolitic.

Here are some realities.

Jeb should have walked over McBride, a lawyer who had never run for office before and realty didn'y want the job. It was much too close.

Pres is not a great public speaker, campaigner.

Media will help tighten race. They want close race to public will watch coverage and candidates will have to buy ads.

There have been experienced, skilled Dem operatives here since April.

Elections are about getting out the base vote, but more importantly, converting the middle 20%. Mz Harris would mobilize BOTH bases, AND drive away the middle ground. Never run a canaidate who moblizes the other side's base. Ask B-1 Bob Dornan.

When asking about someone like Mz Harris, don't ask our Conservative friends, ask the middle 20%.

Sorry, but not this time, not on a reminder tcket with the Prez.

His reelection is too important to be put at risk by the persoal needs of an 11 month Congresswoman. Personally, I love her, but as a Sen candidate, not now. Later, in an off year, she wins with 54%, but not now.

56% to 43.2% is too close for you. LOL.

Pres is not a great public speaker, campaigner.

Hmmm. Let's see. He did win in 2000 didn't he? He also won in Texas twice. That in itself is amazing, because governors don't last very long in Texas. KH won statewide in Florida with nearly 54% in 98. What she did in 2000 is only going to help her based on the voting data for current Republicans. Take a look at the Florida Legislature...how many are dems and how many are republicans. This state is Republican and the only way she is going to lose is if a she is beaten in the primary by a more conservative Republican. Methinks she should come out against the anti-gun nuts and solidify her base voters. She needs to grab this conservative cause to "protect the women of Florida". Conservatives will flock to her like ants on honey.

Media will help tighten race. They want close race to public will watch coverage and candidates will have to buy ads.

Sure did work for McBride and Reno...didn't it? The media is overrated. Talk radio is working to their disadvantage.

Elections are about getting out the base vote, but more importantly, converting the middle 20%. Mz Harris would mobilize BOTH bases, AND drive away the middle ground. Never run a canaidate who moblizes the other side's base. Ask B-1 Bob Dornan.

20%...that is a demonrat pipedream. No way that is true by looking at the data. 53% to 54% of voters are republicans or conservative democrats. Bob Dornan btw was gerrymandered out I believe. He ran against a hispanic woman in a heavily hispanic district. There is no comparison.

Thank you. Notice Mindbender is backing away from his prediction that she wont run; instead he's telling us all the reasons she SHOULDN'T run. Don't worry Mind, I promise to eat my words if you're right, but you wont be. She's in.
