A Wilmette homeowner who shot and wounded an intruder was charged today with violating the north suburb's ordinance banning handgun ownership.

If convicted, Hale DeMar, 54, faces a fine of up to $750.

"It would be unfortunate and potentially tragic to conclude from this incident that Wilmette families would be safer if they keep a handgun in their homes," Wilmette Police Chief George Carpenter said in a written statement. "The oppose it is true. Wilmette families are in greater danger if they keep a handgun at home."

One of the chiefs from this area shot a whole in his living room ceiling with his new Glock. He tried to blame it on the gun, but couldn't. I wonder if this is the same goof.

The Willmete Police Deparment had an extra patrol assigned to the area for about 3 weeks.

The alleged armed peon home owner protected his family and home before the police arrived.

The alleged home owner should get a fair trial before they tke him out back and hang him.

The police chief should be fired ,tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail. There is no cure for stupity.

The perp can sue the home owner, get judgement and own that house. Then it is his turn to be robbed.

Apparently they are in danger from the government if they don't allow themselves to be victims. I'd pay the $750 and get another gun. Cheap life insurance.

of all the nerve. A citizen exercising his constitutional right to bear arms.

Criminals ought to believe that every damned one of us has a gun in the house.

So where was this "cop" when the shooting took place?
At home?
Out screwing his girlfriend?
At the donut shop?

The cop was probably at home...and screwing his girlfriend (who works at the donut shop).

; )

If the all knowing police department was doing its job, then the home invasion suspect would have been pre-empted before entering the property. Since the police department was an utter failure at omniscience, the homeowner had an opportunity to defend himself. The police chief is an ignorant, gun grabbing nutball.

Gee I wonder why here in Virginia we don't have those break-ins of occupied homes?

"Pay the $750 and buy a new gun. Screw the authorities."

I like your style, the best advice I have seen all day!

Confucius once told me K. I. S. S. ( Keep It Simple Stupid ) that I can understand.

Wilmette is a ritzy suburb where the average home price is probably about $1 mil (I'm estimating). This is probably one of the more exciting offenses the PD there has seen in a while. I think most cops there spend their time giving safety lectures to schoolkids and writing parking tickets.

The police chief should be fined the $750 for not being present to protect the homeowner. Place the blame where it belongs.

Pay the $750.00 and buy a new gun.

If violating their bullsh*t hug-a-thug anti gun law is a felony, he will no longer be able to buy any gun.

This biographical sketch looks like the result of a 6th grade social studies homework assignment.

Where'd you glean this?

It appears there's no shortage of village idiots in Wilmette...

This idiot and arrogant chief is a REASON for the 2nd amendment.

Amen.

The ability of a free man to defend himself and his family from harm is a basic human right. How dare public servants like this and the Brooklyn DA punish people for doing what was necessary to retain their own existance. Yet another reason for our Founders to weep at what we've become.

Most home numbers can be found on Yahoo and other sites. If a person wants them, FR shouldn't be involved. Any harassment could be blamed on us. I don't need to remind people about the Chuy's Restaurant incident.

Go out of state and buy it.

It's cheaper than life insurance.
