I thought this was an interesting article on a subject I had not given much consideration. My wife jokes that after we have three kids, its snip time for me. At least I think she is joking.

MR. HARRY BLACKITT: Look at them, bloody Catholics, filling the bloody world up with bloody people they can't afford to bloody feed.

MRS. BLACKITT: What are we dear?

MR. BLACKITT: Protestant, and fiercely proud of it.

MRS. BLACKITT: Hmm. Well, why do they have so many children?

MR. BLACKITT: Because... every time they have sexual intercourse, they have to have a baby.

MRS. BLACKITT: But it's the same with us, Harry.

MR. BLACKITT: What do you mean?

MRS. BLACKITT: Well, I mean, we've got two children, and we've had sexual intercourse twice.

MR. BLACKITT: That's not the point. We could have it any time we wanted.

MRS. BLACKITT: Really?

MR. BLACKITT: Oh, yes, and, what's more, because we don't believe in all that Papist claptrap, we can take precautions.

MRS. BLACKITT: What, you mean... lock the door?

MR. BLACKITT: No, no. I mean, because we are members of the Protestant Reformed Church, which successfully challenged the autocratic power of the Papacy in the mid- sixteenth century, we can wear little rubber devices to prevent issue.

MRS. BLACKITT: What d'you mean?

MR. BLACKITT: I could, if I wanted, have sexual intercourse with you,...

MRS. BLACKITT: Oh, yes, Harry.

MR. BLACKITT: ...and, by wearing a rubber sheath over my old feller, I could insure... that, when I came off, you would not be impregnated.

MRS. BLACKITT: Ooh!

MR. BLACKITT: That's what being a Protestant's all about. That's why it's the church for me. That's why it's the church for anyone who respects the individual and the individual's right to decide for him or herself. When Martin Luther nailed his protest up to the church door in fifteen- seventeen, he may not have realised the full significance of what he was doing, but four hundred years later, thanks to him, my dear, I can wear whatever I want on my John Thomas,... [sniff] ...and, Protestantism doesn't stop at the simple condom! Oh, no! I can wear French Ticklers if I want.

MRS. BLACKITT: You what?

MR. BLACKITT: French Ticklers. Black Mambos. Crocodile Ribs. Sheaths that are designed not only to protect, but also to enhance the stimulation of sexual congress.

MRS. BLACKITT: Have you got one?

MR. BLACKITT: Have I got one? Uh, well, no, but I can go down the road any time I want and walk into Harry's and hold my head up high and say in a loud, steady voice, 'Harry, I want you to sell me a condom. In fact, today, I think I'll have a French Tickler, for I am a Protestant.'

MRS. BLACKITT: Well, why don't you?

MR. BLACKITT: But they-- Well, they cannot, 'cause their church never made the great leap out of the Middle Ages and the domination of alien episcopal supremacy.

NARRATOR #1: But, despite the attempts of Protestants to promote the idea of sex for pleasure, children continued to multiply everywhere.

The only way to end poverty is to sterilize the poor.

It is not about eugenics, its about ending the tragic cycle of poverty.

As for "snip-snip" time, it is she who must get operated on. Remind her of Strom Thurmond.

Remind her that though you desire a long happy relationship together to the end, something might just happen to her and the kids.

You could (and should) begin anew even late in life, while she, alas, could not. Therefore it is she who must have the procedure.

My husband's had a vasectomy for a number of years now. Worked out just fine, disaster isn't coming to the poor of the world yet.

To even hint that self sterilization - for any reason - may be somehow wrong or "immoral" is ludicrous. Talk about a non-issue!

Where exactly does the Bible say having a vasectomy is a sin?

THANKS for posting this in the news forum vs the religion forum. I'd have missed it otherwise.

In terms of the content, I disagree.

Considering how Christ reduced, in a sense, the commandments to 3:

1) Loving God wholly,
2) Loving neighbor as self
3) Doing unto others as you'd have them do unto you . . .

A LOT of individuals are not that fit to be parents whether psychologically, emotionally or financially or all the above and more.

I personally have long felt the Chinese had enough children, I didn't need to help them. So, 4 years after marriage, I got the snip-snip. It was a rather minor procedure and one my nurse wife found fascinating. Also, it tended to drive my libdo higher. And, it's a lot simpler than the wife getting a snip-snip.

I'm also glad I didn't have children because as much as I'd have loved loving children, I was not in any position or shape to do the job required and I couldn't have stood doing less. It was a loving, honorable thing for me to choose to help children already here have a better life rather than devote that time somewhat selfishly to my own flesh and blood.

I don't have any regrets about it. I don't feel any judgment from God about it at all.

I suppose if one were to use the economic argument a response could be that God promised to supply all our needs. But there are a lot of poor struggling Christians who either don't have their spirituality together enough for God to honor that promise or are somehow missing the boat enough to experience such an abundant supply. The Scriptures say He would that we PROSPER and BE IN HEALTH even as our SOUL PROSPERS. That's a pretty high standard. I don't know of a lot of people meeting that standard very well.

And, to have kids into the world without being able to give them the love, protection, training, resources they need--ESPECIALLY THE TIME, HEALTHY AFFECTION AND LOVE THEY NEED--then I consider it cruel punishment to bring them into the world with less than that.

I think sterlization could be a good thing. If the parents of Kerry, Dean, Gephard, all the Kennedys, and other far left liberals were all sterilized, we wouldn't have the problems we are having today.

Seriously, I don't think you can equate sterlization with abortion here.

If I had my way, I'd offer every woman on welfare an extra $10,000 check if she agreed to be sterilized. And you know those absentee dads - the guys who produce kids for somebody else to look after then run away to get some other woman pregnant?? Well, I wouldn't give them the option. It would be the surgical blade for ALL of them. In a few decades the recurrent problem of illegitimate parents producing more illegitimate kids would be significantly lessened.

However, cutting off a perfectly healthy hand, thereby destroying not only that bodily part but also its functions, is an act of mutilation and is morally wrong.

"And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell." -- Jesus
