The Clintons & the FALN - How could two brilliant politicians like Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton create the fiasco surrounding the clemency decision for twelve Puerto Rican nationalists who were serving sentences up to ninety years for "terrorist" crimes in the 1970s and '80s in which no one was injured, no shots were fired, and no bombs went off? The Puerto Rican FALN members were convicted of having unlicensed firearms, transporting stolen vehicles across state lines, and conspiring to commit sedition; certainly not acts deserving suspended sentences but not, in effect, life sentences either. Their continued imprisonment generated a lot of sympathy in Puerto Rico, but this was not an issue that would send its citizens to the barricades.

Cal Thomas - Begging their pardon - THE CONTROVERSY that erupted following President Clinton's offer to pardon 16 jailed Puerto Rican terrorists belonging to the FALN if they promised not to do it again misses something. President Clinton may have discovered a brilliant way to reduce the surplus prison population that is costing the taxpayers billions of dollars and warehousing people, many of whom will go back to prison for other crimes should they be released. - Imagine the conversations now taking place in jails throughout the country. Inmates may think if they promise never again to murder, rape, rob, forge checks, burglarize, embezzle, perjure, drive while drunk, sell or do drugs, kidnap or commit other crimes, they, too, could win commutations.

Such is the case with President Bush's "not an Amnesty" Amnesty proposal for Illegal Aliens. It's a reward for lawbreakers, and all of the hairsplitting over the Bush blue cards vs. the green cards of the Reagan Amnesty are most unpersuasive.

It is all about Borders. Thats it. Borders. No sense in talking about Illegals, amnesty, aliens, ect., its about borders. If we do not control our borders, we can deport 12 million people tomorrow and they would just walk back across- just like they do now. Matter of fact, that is the problem in Iraq, the Islamic terrorist are pouring across and we are not stopping them from comming in and conducting suicide attacks.

The Israelis are finally finally learning this fact and are building a wall. A wall of course is not the answer, its just an interm solution. You need to attack the source, not just try and keep repelling attacks. The Jews need to attack Syria and we need to attack Iran.
Attack is not - take over, is not - rebuild, it means attack and punish. Let them rebuild themselves. Enough of this compassionate conservatism. It is a load of crap. Its over 2 years after 911 and we still are messing around with these Muslim fundamentalists. Suppose someone had asked how long it would take the ONLY SUPERPOWER, THE USA, to defeat Iraq and Afganistan after Arab Terrorist killed 3000 Americans and destroyed the WTC; and I would have answered, "Well lets see we have Nukes, they don't, hummm 3 hours maybe?"

Its going on three years. We need to give elections and then leave with a warning nailed to the door, "Next time we have to come back we will Nuke you till the ants glow."

Right. She only speaks for the Administration in this matter. Doesn't know anything, just talks. /sarcasm...

She's already contradicted the President on whether or not guest workers have to return home to reapply. She wouldn't be the first person in an administration to make statments far beyond administration policy.

It's the jobs stupid! Why are you calling other posters names like that? Are you such a fan of Klintoon that you have taken to adopting his Clintonisms? Are the Mexicans that come up here to pick fruit, work as maids, janitors, and other unskilled labor that threatening to you? Perhaps you should go back to school so you won't be so expendable.

Wait, there's something about this post that sounds familiar...

Ah, there it is: Clintonian snobbery.

Remember Hillary's gaffes about "real jobs?"

I've read this entire thread. I've read a few immigration threads. This one is no different.

There were a couple of tense moments in this thread so both sides say things in haste.

But those who question the President's proposals are always far more likely to provide sources to support their arguments. That persuades me though I could give the President's proposals a chance IF THERE WERE MORE EMPHASIS ON US

To wit, SPEAK ENGLISH, stop the Press 1 for.. Press 2 for.. Press 3 for....

Stop the multi-culti crap!

Stop the meddling by the corrupt, criminal Mexican government in our internal affairs!

Register hyphenated groups as agents of foreign governments; example IMO is India, www.usindiafriendship.net and www.usinpac.com

For China, see the bipartisan Cox Report.

I've not cited any "white" groups. That makes me a bigot. I reckon, I guess. Gee.

With regards the Bush immig law that Southack is so pleased about, see: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1060232/posts

Evidently there is no "there" there in the law. Just flash a few papers and nobody asks questions. Particularly useful for employers who don't really want to know...

Right.

Bob Barr is a nut-case, as is Sensenbrenner.

I think your knowledge and understanding of this Act is limited to whatever the BushBotTalkingPoints memo was, yesterday--thus, is inaccurate.

But when HRC assumes office, you may find out that the talking points are quite different from reality.

For another look at the immigration mess, see Heather MacDonald's lengthy article in FR post http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1060232/posts,
which is an OUTSTANDING piece of research journalism.

It remains to be seen exactly what Administration policy is.

We know one thing for certain: Administration policy is NOT to enforce immigration law except to displace American workers at living wage.

What your interlocutor chooses to ignore is that the New Bush Dawn of Immigration will also import technical/professional workers at $8.00/hour--displacing US natives who thought all that education was worth $60-75K in salary.

Exactly right! All jobs are up for grabs. The postal workers union came out against this proposal and for good reason. What's interesting is that Bush et al believe that in this proposal, we will have a more pluralistic society which will result in displacement of American workers as well as American citizens, who is this to benefit? Certainly not the people who Bush is supposedly representing.

Yes, I notice Southhack never did reply as to how he thought this *voluntary law* would stop illegal employment, & tax evasion.

SOP for those in DC.......*NEW LAWS, including the same old LOOPHOLES*

Just flash a few papers and nobody asks questions. >>>>>>>>

Hopefully there's going to be lots of voters, asking lots of questions.
