Well, about a year or so ago, I was coming out of the station near my apartment and as I was standing at the foot of the stairs, zipping my coat, this guy barked at me to move because he had to go to the bathroom and wanted some privacy!

I don't think his opinion of the diet is what's really at issue here, although an argument over that is probably what this thread will degenerate into rather soon. The issue is that the highest ranking elected official in New York City attacked a dead constituent of his out of sheer holier-than-thou meanness, and that is way, way, WAY out of line.Politicians don't get where they are by being nice guys -- they tend to be hard-nosed SOBs. Do you remember when Giuliani released Patrick Dorismond's criminal record?
RUDY ADMITS 'MISTAKE' ON DORISMOND
In the days after the shooting in which the unarmed Dorismond was gunned down by cops in a Manhattan drug sting gone awry Giuliani ordered the release of Dorismond's sealed police records, including his juvenile file, and described him as no "altar boy" on national TV.
Not one of his finer moments, but his intentions -- defending the NYPD -- were noble. He knows how to play hardball and often steps on lots of toes.

No. As soon as I got out to the street, I looked for a police officer -- and given the high security in my 'hood, it wasn't hard to find one.

As for slipping on the ice, he should pray I never take a spill in NYC.The same day that Adkins fell, I got a call from my son, who slipped and sprained his ankle in Manhattan. He lives in a fifth floor walk-up, so he was pretty upset.

The man was healthy at his age. Bloomberg is just whining. I felt bad too when I heard he REALLY slipped.

Thats the dumbest rant I've heard in a while. Aside from the intro period, once you're into the diet it's more focused on the removal of simple carbohydrates. You eat fats and proteins, but its leavened with plenty of vegetables and even complex or fibery carbohydrates. Savage is off the mark on this one and you'd think that being somewhat of an "outside of the box" thinker he'd give something that the AMA has conniptions over but can never find any negative study results to back up a bit deeper look...

You'll get flamed for sure - for some reason, FR is a well spring of Atkins disciples. I wonder if it has anything to do with common INTJ traits.
Anyhow, yes, you are correct - the whole issue is balancing caloric intake with proper excercise. Oats, potatoes, rice, pasta, fruit/veggies, no butter/margarine (olive/canola oil), moderate portions of lean meat, etc. is all anyone needs to stay in shape.
The genius of Atkins is that it appeals to people who feel compelled to eat. Compared to sweets, cookies, fries, etc. I suppose meat is better, but still, the whole point is to make eating 6 days out of 7 a task, not a joy.
Save the 7th day to pig out on anything you want, as long as you can get back on track for the next 6 days.

Yeah, I remember the Dorismond thing. But at least there Rudy had a legitimate reason for doing it, even if he should have known better. What Bloomie did was just a random slap in the face of a law-abiding citizen now unable to defend himself, as well as essentially being a false allegation that Bloomberg's own underlings were part of an illegal conspiracy to cover up a cause of death.
I know politics is a nasty game, but this had no political motive. It was just Mike being an ass, and he seems to be spending more and more time each day working on being an ass than on being mayor. Having such a jerk as mayor would be bad enough during the best of times; it's far more detrimental today.
Bloomberg must go. If that means voting for a RAT when the time comes, so be it. It's not even about politics or policies any more; Bloomberg is bad for New York, and he'd be bad for New York even if his policies were indistinguishable from Ronald Reagan's. His nasty personality and personal hangups are overshadowing everything else now.

Funny, that's what most of the city said about the pre-9/11 Rudy...

Hello?
Does no one remember that Atkins had a heart attack in June 2002? He allegedly had a congential heart condition.
