Quite agree. 2004 again offers a clear choice, and that isn't "voting for a third party". It's between the President and the pro-tax, pro-abortion, pro-legalization, pro-gay marriage, pro-naturalization and citizenship for illegals "Democratic" nominee, whomever that turns out to be.

Clark vows to push up Puerto Rico's status vote
The Associated Press
News - January 23, 2004
Wesley Clark offered a plan yesterday to speed up the timetable for Puerto Ricans to determine their island's status as either a U.S. state, an independent country or something in between.
Clark, a Democratic presidential candidate, criticized the Bush administration for failing to fund and use a White House task force to resolve an issue pending for decades.
Clark said he would give the executive task force $5 million, move up deadlines and call on Congress to approve a referendum for Puerto Ricans who live on the island to choose their governmental future.
"Puerto Ricans want a president who will exert leadership to resolve the question of (its) ultimate status," Clark said in a statement. "My plan will resolve this question, rectify the injustices presented by the current status and improve the quality of life for Puerto Ricans everywhere."
Puerto Ricans are satisfied with their current status. There is a group that wants PR to become the 51st US state, and there's a group that wants PR to become a sovereign state. And the sweet spot in the middle wants nothing to do with either end.
GWB's immigration proposal makes it possible to bring illegals who currently hold jobs out into the open. Their employers were not going to turn them in anyway, and the border with Mexico is porous. The only threat are the small groups who want "La Raza" ("the Race") to take over California and other formerly Spanish held territory that is now a part of the United States. Those groups support the PLO and other Arab terrorist groups, and must be similarly opposed.

Bush's outlook much sunnier than his father's was
by Nancy Benac
The Associated Press
In hard statistics and a harder-to-define sense of how the country is doing, today's view is one Bush's father could only have envied as he entered the re-election year of 1992. And, likewise, the public's impression of this President Bush is much kinder than was the assessment of his father at the same point in his Presidency... [Y]ou can bet George W. Bush, always on the offensive, would never, ever own up to a free-falling economy. "If you were a poker player, you would want his hand," Democratic strategist Jim Duffy says of the current President... As this election season gets under way, job growth still is extremely weak, but at least the economic trends are moving in the right direction. And it's the trend lines that are key in politics, said Charlie Black, a veteran GOP strategist and former chairman of the Republican National Committee... [H]e pointed to the April 1992 Los Angeles riots that stole attention from the elder Bush just when he was starting to gain momentum... The first Bush, for his part, had sky-high approval ratings after successful prosecution of the Persian Gulf War in January 1991. But by the time of his 1992 re-election campaign, "people had forgotten about it," Black said.

"--WAR ON TERROR? (THE overriding issue!)"
-----
I'm getting a little tired of republican partisans calling the war on terror the overriding issue in an effort to get conservatives to cast a vote for Bush against their better judgement. It most certainly isn't.
Preservation of America is the overriding issue. The war on terror is merely a subset of the greater picture. Preventing a corporate shill from exporting millions more American jobs is another aspect of the preservation of America. Preventing Vincent Fox's soulmate from legalizing millions of illegal immigrants is yet another.
The bottom line is that if we lose those conservative distinctives that made us the land of the free and the home of the brave, it won't matter one %)(!*% bit if we lose the war on terror.
To: applemac_g4
The bottom line is that if we lose those conservative distinctives News flash. Protectionism is NOT, nor has it ever been a "conservative distinction". Protectionism is repugnant to conservatism.
To: Texasforever
That's kind of a broad generalization.
Teddy Roosevelt was a nature conservationist (and hunter!)

What does hunting have to do with economic protectionism? It is true however that he was a “trust buster”. Teddy Roosevelt was a republican but I don’t ever recall him calling himself a conservative.
To: Texasforever
"economic protectionism" OK, two different topics.
IIRC, didn't TR establish some National Parks and preserves?

So ventnana;
You've fallen for the Dem's lines huh?
If you can get them, I suggest you get some Public broadcasting tapes from when Reagan was President. Run the video's in the privacy of your own home. Really "listen" to his economic plans. Educate yourself.
Understand "trickle" down economics.
But more so..understand WAR. Understand how much it costs. What it does to an economy too. Because this President has prevented the wars from being as devastating as they *could have been* to this economy!
You need to also understand that a Presidents policicies take 5-7 years to affect an economy. (This has always been a historical fact).
Therefore, Clinton inherited Reagans economy and this President inherited Clintons.. which was already being talked about (a recession) BEFORE President Bush 43 was even elected (and would have been 5 years into Clintons Presidency).
Add to that 9-11, the devastation of the damage in NY, the pentagon, to the airline industry, the settlements to the families, a war in both Afghanistan and Iraq,..and then add to that President Bush's BRILLIANT economic strategies,.. the fact that we've had RECORD GROWTH, in FACT the best GROWTH IN 20 YEARS, RECORD HOME SALES IN 20 YEARS. And your statements are MORE than ludicrous!! (I'd even put them right up there with the DEMS!)
In fact, I'll have to pull out some of the Economic articles I have.. but they are being spewed out so fast, as to make Economists heads spin. They have NEVER seen times like this.
So you can talk about deficits, but you aren't talking the TRILLIONS that we used to talk about. We used to be told we could NEVER PAY IT ALL OFF (This was before President Bush was elected and before the Republican Congress!).
Then add to that the fact that this administration EXPOSED AND WENT AFTER CORPORATE CORRUPTION AND ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES that started under the previous administration in Corporate America!
I'd say those prosectutions were a VERY GOOD THING that happened under this administrations justice department!
I suppose you want to blame the Bush administration for the DOT COMS failures, and do you realize the significane they had on the economy and job losses?
As for the Education programs. I don't apologize for "No Child Left Behind".
A man I respect doesn't either. Try reading Thomas Sowell.
A third grader should be able to pass third grade tests, no matter what color their skin is. PERIOD.
You mentioned security.. we haven't had another attack yet.. and God willing we won't.
Is this President perfect? Hell no!
Haven't seen a perfect President yet. Not Reagan, not anyone. But he is doing the best he can, under the worst set of circumstances a US President has ever faced on our homeland, an attack! He is also facing head on, terrorism. Something that won't go away by *wishing it away*.
What makes me sick is the sickening display while our nation has been at war.
Accusations of an illegal war, of a President who made up reasons to go to war. Accusations by ex PRESIDENTS, and Senators no less!! This has NEVER happened in the history of our nation.. NEVER! The outrage ought to be against THOSE charges.
It is a slap in the face of every troop who has died. Troops who btw, have either killed or captured 2/3rds of the al Queda leadership. Killed or captured all but 6? now of the deck of cards from Iraq, to include Saddam and the killing of his sons!
Charges of an illegal war by Carter and Kennedy now being played on soundbites around the world. Nice!!
It demeans our country, and diminishes our stature in the world. It emboldens our enemies and demoralizes our troops. Show me how in ANY way, shape, or form it makes America safer, or would encourage ANY nation to help us in our endeavors! Show me how comments made by Democrats, NOT ONE MONTH after war began, made this nation more secure, or helped us get other nations to help us (by us, I mean our troops, our country)!!
So, I am outraged at YOUR comments. Because I happen to think President Bush is doing and OUTSTANDING JOB.
What you are suggesting by your complaints is that someone else could do the job better.
Just who do you think that person would be?
(Excuse any typo's I've typed this quickly and off the cuff. I'm in a hurry and will check in later).

Thanks DrDeb.
I'm sick of people complaining about this President. The man has a job I wouldn't want, under circumstances no one can envy.
His accomplishments are astonishing. Yet many want perfection. But when you ask them "who do you want instead?" they have no answer.
I doubt if in my lifetime there will be a President I agree with 100 percent. It just won't happen.
God willing he will be re-elected. If America is wise enough to keep him. He is the right man for our times. I shudder to imagine the alternatives. I mean that with all sincerety!
