Kerry came back upset with what he'd been sent to do.

That's not terribly different from a lot of guys in a lot of wars. His next step in life was to do what he could do, and that turned out to be the Viet Nam Veterans Against the War.

I consider that to have been an error but maybe not as big an error as others here who neither served nor ever knew anyone who served might think.

As far as tossing your medals back at Congress, I found myself do that with the paltry few awards I had that Congress had told me I had to have ~ the event, however, was when Jimmy Carter pardoned the draft dodgers. I waited a few weeks and when congress had not yet Impeached and Convicted him, I sent the stuff back to my local Congressman. Lots of other guys did too. John Kerry should have taken that occasion to finally toss his medals back to the scumbuckets in Congress who had so totally shamed our nation and wasted so many of our friends.

One of the reasons Kerry himself, says very little about his service, is because he wishes to avoid the issue of his later disgraceful behavior to his country and his service.

I see your point. Still, the medal-tossing episode comes across as a negative in a lot of quarters but maybe not in any that would have considered voted for Kerry in the first place. I don't think it plays well w/ WWII vets but, sadly, they are a shrinking sector of the electorate.

Once again this garbage surfaces. The 187th was my husband's unit and is now my son's. My husband served in this unit for 35 years, including the period in question. It was a time of great confusion, but if Bush says he was there, he was. No one, least of all, Turnipseed, is going to remember some lowly Lt. from the Texas guard. Bush was nobody in the great scheme of things back then. If the Dems decide to make a big deal of this again, they'd better find someone other than "Turnip" to carry their water. He is notorius for being forgetful, sometimes in very dangerous ways.
