By IAN HEPBURN, DUNCAN LARCOMBE and LUCY HAGANTHE SUN socked it to hook-handed Abu Hamza yesterday — as the number of readers who want him out of Britain soared past 100,000.

Sun man Duncan Larcombe confronted the race-hate Muslim cleric with a hard-hitting poster telling him he was not wanted.

It spelled out the message in the starkest possible terms: “100,000 Say Get Out!”

Last night, that number had grown to 124,077, an astonishing 98 per cent of all calls.

We are keeping open our You The Jury phone lines on whether or not readers think Hamza should be kicked out out the country.

Only 2,481 (two per cent) had voted No, he should stay.

Reporter Duncan ambushed Hamza as he arrived for his weekly rant outside Finsbury Park Mosque, North London.

Our man nipped between six minders, thrust our poster under his nose and told him: “This is what our readers think. When are you going to go?”

Hamza, 46, was clearly rattled and departed from his usual anti-Western tirade to sneer his contempt for The Sun and its readers.

He ranted: “The people in this country, because of The Sun, have become very retarded.

“They want only to look at nude pictures, go to football matches, have a few pints in the pub at the end of the day and go to sleep. They have become slaves.

“What is 100,000 people compared to 60million and who believes The Sun anyway?”

About 100 fanatical supporters knelt in prayer as menacing young men, masked by scarves, formed a protective shield around the cleric, trying to stop The Sun from taking pictures.

Benefits sponger Hamza had arrived in a Mercedes driven by a flunky.

After the two-hour service, the rabble-rouser was led away by his bodyguards.

A police inspector overseeing their operation said: “We have a large presence here today because we are aware of The Sun campaign and felt there could be some friction. We can’t object to The Sun showing posters to the cleric as it is a peaceful protest and we respect freedom of speech.”

He accused The Sun of trying to brainwash people and starting a campaign against people like himself. He added: “Let them go to Hell.”

Dozens of uniformed police had closed the road and stood guard as Hamza — who claims he lost both hands and an eye fighting in Afghanistan — poured out his hatred.

As well as our phone vote, we are printing petitions above for readers to fill in and post to us, calling for Home Secretary David Blunkett to deport Hamza.

Taoufik Sabour said: “As a Muslim Arab living in the UK, I feel sad about the fact that a person like Abu Hamza is allowed to speak for Muslims.

“What Hamza says has nothing to do with Islam. And I challenge him to provide a single verse from Koran supporting what he has said.”

Another who gave his name as Mr Verma wrote: “People like him give British Asians like me a bad name. Many people can’t differentiate between fanatical lunatics like him and Asian Brits, proud to be members of the British community.”

Hook's insult
THIS time Abu Hamza has gone too far.

We don’t care what lies he peddles about The Sun — being insulted by a creep like him confirms we’re doing our job properly.

But when he turns his bile on to our army of loyal, decent readers then he’s asking for trouble. Captain Hook reckons we’re all retarded.

What a terrible insult to people who want nothing more than to eject hate-filled spongers like him from their land.

Hook then attacks The Sun for trying to brainwash people.
