Thanks for posting this, and what a great story!

BTW, I tracked down the excerpt from NG online, and clicked on the reporter's notes:

"Going into such an affluent town, I was all set to experience some degree of snobbery or Marie Antoinette cluelessness. Whenever I'm about to encounter society with a capital "S," the young socialist in me kicks in and the class anger comes out. But that was as bad as it got on this assignment. The people I spoke to were not all wealthy by any means, and those who were rich were cognizant of their privilege and what was going on in their town. I found that very impressive."

"Young socialist in me?" At least he had the guts to admit he was wrong, but there you go. <p. When I went to GHS in the early-mid 70s, it was definitely NOT all rich kids (including us). They went to the private schools. Kids from Byram, all along the Post Road, OG, Cos Cob ... lots and lots of "regular" kids. I wonder if I can get away with reading the paper copy at a bookstore someplace... [grin]

Wow, great story, CatoRenasci! Your daughter must be thrilled... I know I would be.

There was at least one other FReeper in Greenwich last night: After Action Report From Freeping At The Hyatt Regency In Greenwich, CT

Actually, neither Bill nor Hillary was a classic Red Diaper Baby.

The Red Diaper Babies were the kids who grew up from the 1920's through the 1960s' whose parents were active Communists (actual party members or close fellow travellers). Most of these kids (as did the younng activist's mother) belonged to communist or "progressive" youth groups and went to summer camps (right here in the US) at which they combined ordinary summer camp stuff with the martyrs of the cause (the Rosenbergs, Rosa Luxembourg, etc.) communist indoctrination, including the latest party line, the wonders of the Soviet Union, the importance of supporting revolutionary workers movements and fraternal socialist states (e.g. North Korea, Viet Cong; Castro), and learning the Internationale and other communistt songs.

IIRC, Hillary was even a Goldwater Girl (shudder!).

Blame my boss at the clubbing baby seal factory! If it weren't for him nagging me to club more pups per hour I'd be able to overlook Bush's liberalism. :P

The most recent edition of National Geographic has a five page article on Greenwich. It portrays Greenwich as a town that only has residents with obscene amounts of inherited money. I think that there is a small excert on the National Geographic website.

Great article, and I am so pleased for your daughter!!! Now, does anybody have a tally on how much President Bush and VP Cheney have collected in their re-election efforts? (I parcel out my donations in small amounts to President Bush everytime somebody says something demeaning about him I find particularly annoying. I think I'll send some today in honor of KantianBurke. LOL!)

Donation every time there's a negative post huh? :> You know, some might start considering as to WHY Bush is generating such criticism from conservatives but hey, its your moolah. How many posts till you become bankrupt might I ask? :P

No, not EVERY time, and not until I'm bankrupt, either. I am required by law to stop at $2000 (darn it!), or $4000 per couple. So far, I've sent three $20 checks, so I have the option of sending up to 97 more before bugging hubby to "do the right thang" on his share, LOL! And if I don't get particularly annoyed enough times, there is always the option of a lump-sum donation later on.

You suggested that "some" might start wondering why President Bush is generating criticism from conservatives, hinting that I do what I do somewhat naively. Not so. I evaluate the criticisms, some of which are fair, some of which are not. In the latter category, there are some critics whose agenda are fairly obvious, at least to me. And some are of the "I voted for Bush in 2000 but if he doesn't let the AWB expire/singlehandedly curb immigration/appoint Bork/call Muslims evil/veto NEA spending/eliminate education spending/send me a card when I'm sick I'll never vote for him again" variety. Frankly, it's getting old. By now, we ALL should know that there is no pleasing everybody.

Sorry this ran on so long.
