Bush nets $1.1M in return to Greenwich
Greenwich Time ^ | 1/30/04 | Neil Vigdor, Staff Writer

President Bush, speaking last night in front of a packed house of campaign donors, celebrities, local relatives and one conspicuous lieutenant governor in Greenwich, defended his record on the economy and the war with Iraq and said he would not rest until terrorism is defeated.

In his sixth visit to Connecticut -- and second to Greenwich -- as president, Bush raised $1.1 million for his re-election campaign with the 30-minute stump speech at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich.

"The enemies of freedom are not idle and neither are we," said Bush, who was interrupted by applause more than a dozen times.

....

Bush opened the speech by poking fun at his academic transcript and his Yale classmates, several of whom were in attendance.

"They were the ones who invented shock and awe," Bush said, referring to the military slogan of the U.S. invasion of Baghdad. "They're all fine lads. They themselves were C students."

....

David Dougherty and Linnea Perelli-Minetti, juniors at Greenwich High School and members of a grass-roots organization called Youth for Bush, were among those to arrive early. The 17-year-olds and several of their classmates were invited to meet Bush by the local campaign office.

"I was over there in the corner and said, 'Bush, you rock,' and he said, 'No, you rock,' " said Dougherty, who was so excited about shaking the president's hand that he didn't want to wash his own.

My daughter was one of the Youth for Bush lucky enough to shake hands with President Bush. She reports that he was far more charming in person than on TV, has a natural twinkle in his eye, and was looking directly at her during his speech (she was in the front row) and winked at her at one point. Can you say "on cloud 9?"

Kiddo, of course Bush says you rock. You're going to have all your future paychecks ripped to shreds when you grow up to pay for his "compassion." Ignorance, and thus youth, is bliss.

Some say conservatives are liberals mugged by reality. I'd say your attitude is one of conservatism mugged by paranoia.

Those "free" pills, Medicare, S.S. and all the other govt. bennies are going to have to be paid. Guess what age group is going to shell out the most?

I don't know about you, KB, but I'm getting more money back than before this compassionate conservative was elected.

Morning Coop :>

Yeah those current tax cuts sure are dandy. Its too bad that in a few years, to pay for all of Bush's "compassion," taxes are going to have to be jacked up. So, you get $300 now and have your income gobbled up 5 years down the road. Cool.

A) Free pills, medicare, S.S. and protection from terrorists ... (all of which sucks but Bush isnt governing based on polls)

or....

B) Free pills, medicare, S.S. and no protection from terrorists (provided to you by our wonderful Democrats)...

Choose wisely at the ballot box because a non vote for Bush is a vote for appeasement.

If people like you have your way, then your prediction will come true. Because we'll put a Kerry or Dean in the White House, who will indeed strive to raise our taxes. Spending was high before President Bush came into office, and he lowered taxes. It's higher now, but I can't see him raising taxes.

It's an easy call for the objective among us. (And yes, I have children.)

What a wonderful story -- my daughter felt the same way when she met President Bush last year! He was so incredibly sweet with her; he crouched down to her eye level (she's only 11) and spoke with her for several minutes.

Needless-to-say, my daughter was also on "Cloud 9"!

False choice. How are we going to fund a war on terror if we keep spending like this? Do you have any idea what our debt service alone will be when interest rates return to 7%-8% p.a. levels?
