The doom and gloomers just can't fathom the idea that we will grow our way out of this deficit, pessimism run-a-muk around here with these .02%rs.

"It's higher now, but I can't see him raising taxes."

I agree but the point I'm trying to make is that somewhere down the line, in part due to his expansion of the Great Society, taxes WILL have to be raised thus erasing whatever tax cuts he's enacted. In all likelihood this won't have to be done during his administration, as I mentioned earlier it'll be the younger folks who'll will be forced to pay, but it WILL have to be done.

You daughter is very lucky. It is also nice to hear that there are teens that are interested in meeting such a great man. Thanks for sharing your story.

Don't let KantianBurke highjack this thread. If you ignore people that do not deserve response they will go away.

Those "free" pills, Medicare, S.S. and all the other govt. bennies are going to have to be paid. Guess what age group is going to shell out the most?

Not to worry.

If the death tax stays dead, the children of rich baby boomers will have lots of inheritances to pay the bills.

LOL

- K.B. must not remember what happened when Reagan was President. Spending went way up, but taxes were cut also; the economy grew and eventually, paid the debt and then some.

I posted a legitimate remark. By his actions, the young are going to hit with high taxes that they weren't responsbile for. One fails to see how it can be considered hijacking a thread if its only fault is cynically pointing out how Bush should be aplogizing to young rather than joking with them. Its THEIR money he's flushed away but feel free to dismiss that if it makes it easier for you to deal with.

taxes WILL have to be raised

No, they won't. Spending can and should be controlled, instead of taxes being raised. Combine that with a stimulated economy with lower taxes providing more revenue than one stifled by higher taxes.

If a re-elected President Bush raises taxes, the GOP will be pounded in 2008. If he lets the deficit and spending continue to spiral, he'll likely get the same result. The only real solution for him, then, is to control spending (which many of us wonder if he can do).

But we all know what the Dem Presidential candidates (Joe Lieberman excepted) will do. Raise taxes.

Reagan didn't expand LBJ's Great Society as Bush has. Big difference that's going to cost us down the road.

Think it'll stop with income taxes? One of these days, the bright idea will be to tax wealth the way our local guvs tax property.

Ah, yes! The protesters.

There is a very interesting, but not widely reported fact about one of the young men who organized the protest: he is a second generation (at least) Red Diaper Baby.

His Mother, whom I know and is actually a decent enough sort politics aside, grew up as a Red Diaper Baby in New York City (Greenwich Village) in the '50s and was heavily involved in the New Left in the US (though apparently without much of a public profile). She also spent several years in Germany in the late '60s - early '70s involved with a significant member of the Red Army Faction. Now, of course, she's a left-Democrat.

It never ceases to amaze me how, when you look into the background of those who are leaders of the left and the 'Democrats', so many of them turn out to have significant Communist or socialist ties.

Kiddo, of course Bush says you rock. You're going to have all your future paychecks ripped to shreds when you grow up to pay for his "compassion." Ignorance, and thus youth, is bliss.

That is what Robert A. Taft (Mr Republican) told my dad when FDR passed Social Security. You just wait, Bobby the Taft said, it will take all your money and you will be far worse off than you were before FDR enacted this curse on working people. You think things are great making 30 bucks a week? See how bad it is once this Socical Security thing costs 30 dollars a week and takes all your money. He was right Soical security costs did eventially go to 30 bucks a week. But it didn't take all of Dad's money to pay it. Thirty bucks was the cost of social security and it was also the of a meal for Dad and Mom... but thirty bucks for the meal did not include the tip.

Barry Goldwater(Mr Massive Loser) told me that I would not be able afford to have anything when I grew up ..... not if LBJ got Medicare inacted. My take home pay would be next to nothing if that rotten dirty LBJ enacted Medicare. Why in my old age, If LBJ got his way I would not even be able to afford a tooth pick. But not to worry, said Barry I would not be able to afford to eat anyway.

The problem with your we can't afford story is people like you have been playing that tune since 1933 and it has yet to come true.

But you assure us all that in 2030 the sky is going to fall. People like you have been making dire predictions that the the sky is going to fall since 1933. It has never fallen. Most of us doen't even bother to look up to see if it is falling any more. There is no sign of it falling. Now your side guarantees it will fall in 2020 or no later than 2030.

Those who are old enough or have read history have been hearing your sides dire predictions that never come true for 64 years.

AS for me, for the first 40 years I heard your dire predictions of the world ending before breakfast, I totally believed them. Your problem is this is year 41 and being wrong 40 out of 40 times can make some people believe that you are always wrong.

There are many arguments that you can make against medicare drugs. But saying we can't afford them or that our children can't afford them, has ben proven pattently untrue over and over and over for 3 generations

Lying about what this nation can or can't afford is stupid. How many lies can one tell before few if any believe you?

I wonder if the National Geographic hit piece on Greenwich was timed for this fund raiser?

"Spending can and should be controlled, instead of taxes being raised. Combine that with a stimulated economy with lower taxes providing more revenue than one stifled by higher taxes."

In theory yes but the upcoming problem of the entitlement systems throw a monkey wrench into the works. With S.S. and Medicare about to explode with "takers" due to the baby boom retirements, costs are going to shoot through the roof. Couple that with the shrinking of a high paid labor force and tax cuts won't be much good. One example is if uo've got 100 workers that need to pay $200 in taxes. You cut their taxes and they reach their goal. But what happens if you only have 50 workers and you need to raise $400?

Actually, I doubt it. National Geo's lead time for its articles is pretty long, and I doubt the fundraiser was on anyone's agenda or radar screen when the Nat Geo planned its pan of our little slice of heaven.

S.S. had a much better worker to payee ratio 50 years ago. Thus ur take home pay wasn't signifigantly reduced to pay for benefits. If you think things are going to remain the same in the next 20 for the good however, I've got a bridge to sell you.
