Press Release

Statement of Schindler Family in response Lakeland Ledger Editorial

Attorney George Felos admits to ?tens of thousands? of starvation and dehydration deaths.

Clearwater, FL February 6, 2004 An editorial piece published online by the Lakeland Ledger of Lakeland, Florida entitled Lawmakers Intrude Into Family Privacy included a recent quote by attorney George Felos of Dunedin, Florida that the Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation believes is cause for alarm.

In the opinion piece that reports on Florida Legislative action to protect incapacitated people from starvation and dehydration, George Felos is quoted as saying: ?Because of the notoriety of the Schiavo case, which is one isolated case out of tens of thousands over the years, I think the Legislature is politically motivated to look like they are doing something? (emphasis added).

Mr. Felos is the attorney representing Michael Schiavo, the Pinellas County man who has petitioned the circuit courts to remove the feeding tube that delivers sustenance to his disabled wife, Terri Schindler-Schiavo. Mr. Felos is also the author of Litigation as Spiritual Practice, a book in which he claims he ?soul speaks? to incapacitated patients.

Statement of Bobby Schindler, Terri?s brother: ?People should be very frightened of how matter-of-factly Mr. Felos?s assertion is. He openly admits that we are once again killing the those deemed less worthy.?

The above-referenced editorial can be found online at http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040206/NEWS/402060311/1036

Between 220,000 and 250,000 disabled and ailing people were euthanized during the T-4 Programme of the Third Reich. Does 'tens of thousands' mean we are trying to catch up?

I am stunned by what people think is going on here! Terri is not comatose or hooked up to life-support, yet Felos continues to make her sound like a thing and not a person. I'm so sick of him! I think it's time to write another letter...to this editor! Wretched!

Indeed, Felos is an excellent marketeer. If you can find very old articles about Terri, prior to MS's pursuit of her death, you'll find that they are just dripping with compassion for her, for him, etc. Now that they want to starve the defenseless woman to death, she is 'in a coma', she is 'hopeless' and Felos himself likened her to a house plant. Can you dig that? A houseplant.

There is a marked effort to dehumanize Terri in the eyes of the public and it's nothing more than marketing in my opinion. Why is her hair cut off? She has daily showers so long hair is no problem. Why doesn't she have street clothes anymore? Why is no one allowed to put a dab of lipstick on her? Because they do not want her to appear as she is - in there.

Why does Felos use terms like 'abducted from her death bed' and 'subject to a surgical procedure against her will'. If I'm not mistaken, the removal of her feeding tube was done without the official okey-dokey from Terri, so isn't THAT against her will?

The language is what really gives these people away and the press seems to have fallen for it. If you search out the Orlando Sentinel or the St Pete Times, you'll find oodles of articles and opinion pieces all singing the praises of ending this woman's life. You're not likely to find too many that are empathetic, let alone questioning all the irregularities in her court cases.

It makes me want to scream.

You're right in that it is stunning that people don't see this. But, sadly, many only see what is in print and take it for gospel without really doing their homework. When you start telling them all the bits and pieces that have lead up to this moment, they drop their jaws in disbelief.

Do you find it as hard to believe that we have become a nation of non-thinkers? I can hardly believe how many people are happy to be just spoon-fed information, without looking into things further. So many accept everything at face value! I am amazed, and angered by it, too!

But, you see, that's where you come in. And all the people on these boards and the hundreds doing daily email drops and those carrying on lengthy conversations in pubs and coffee shops. We concerned citizens wield a tremendous amount of power if we will just take the time to talk it all out.

The media may have failed Terri miserably, but I have to tell you: the little guy saved her. All the little guys saved her. That's some great accomplishment. No, we aren't done yet, but we're on the right path. For her, for others, for all of us.

I am utterly convinced that, if people keep doing what they are doing, these mouthy lawyers and pompous judges will one day be forced to keep their filthy mitts off of our disabled and elderly citizens.

I saw Kill Bill part 1 the other day and now I am convinced that the solution to every problem is to hack somebodies head off with a samurai sword.

I see. Your original post was intended to be...... funny?

Tell us, would you find such a thing funny if it were posted about YOUR sister, YOUR mum, YOUR daughter?

Would the answer be 'probably not' or 'definitely not'?

There isn't a thing in the world funny about some guy trying to kill his wife. Moreover, what's happening to Terri could well happen to ANY ONE of us.

What this problem screams out for is awareness in the general public, action from concerned citizens and serious thought to what it is we consider humane and compassionate treatment of vulernable persons.

Not adolescent cracks.

Please feel free to jump in the lake.

My Mom or sister wouldn't be in that condition because they would be allowed to die, and we dang sure won't let a bunch of bible-thumping ex-addicts decide that for us because we all have living wills that specifically state that no life-support or forced feeding is wanted.

If you don't want what is happening to your dear, sainted Terri to happen to you, them get a living will you moron.

"What this problem screams out for is awareness in the general public, action from concerned citizens and serious thought to what it is we consider humane and compassionate treatment of vulernable persons."

Ahhhh...the classic "we are doing it for those who cannot do it for themselves" line.Great way to muscle your way into the affairs of others....and of course, you get to pick who can and cannot help themselves and must be a "vunerable person".

Hitler would be proud of you.
