What...Michael Moore!!!!???? I said over a comparable period...Not per month. there were a lot of homicides last year. Got that statistic from an offhand remark from an LAPD officer friend. It seems born out by facts:
http://www.streetgangs.com/topics/2004/011403lapd20.html Using methods developed by the National Institute of Justice, LAPD officials did a study that concluded that the decrease in the number of homicides from 658 in 2002 to 506 last year saved the city about $462 million. Those savings included costs of hospital care and police and fire respons

Welcome to FR.

Just wondered because if there are more than 500 homicides in LA in such a short time maybe you support Moore's view that gun control should be tightnened.

The Department of Defense has revised the official death toll from the Korean War downwards.
The old numbers were 33,629 battle deaths (all branches) plus 20,617 other deaths, for a total of 54,246.
The revised figures are 33,667 battle deaths plus 3,249 other deaths, for a total of 36,916.

Welcome to FR! I read your posts on the concentration camps. They were thoughtful remarks. I lived in Germany for four years and the holocaust is not theoretical for me. You'll forgive me, I was initially suspicious you were a DU troll. Invoking the name of Michael Moore can easily short circuit my rational thought processes:-) The short answer to your question is "No!". I don't believe gun control is the answer. England being an excellent example of a steady increase in violent crimes with stricter gun control. I'm off for a little shuteye now. Best regards!

And .. this is just another perfect example of the "projection technique" in action.
While the dems complain about the number of deaths, they have caused the most deaths of Americans.
Also, if you look at your stats again, you will find that all major wars were STARTED BY DEMOCRATS and ENDED BY REPUBLICANS. Any war initiative started by a republican - was WON BY THE REPUBLICAN.
The only exception to this was FDR - who at least had the good sense to promote General Eisenhower to execute the war - thus - again - a republican won the war.

When you say KILLED I trust these stats are KIA's, not total deaths due to ALL causes. You realize, NOW, every news media reports TOTAL deaths whether it is an accident, a natural death or killed by HOSTILE fire or action. Ever since TOTAL deaths reached 500 that is how it is being reported.

Do you know if there was a Democratic-controlled Congress at the onset of the Vietnam war?

I think Michael Moore is a populist and I dislike that. To be honest, in my eyes there is too much populist stuff here as well. Too many insults. I had been reading here for a while but never could make up my mind if I should register or not. Especially when the trolls really show up I do not like what happens. We should show them we have the better arguments rather than just ban them. That way they can just say that there is no free speech at the free republic and they keep preaching their nonsense. Although I agree, if they overdo it they just get on my nerves.
I never thought much about gun control but the one thing I thought where Moore could be right is that there are way too many people shot in the US and the statistics he showed were quite convincing that it is better elsewhere. But I do not know whether he just kind of forged them.

The war started as an insurgence against the French colonialists. US involvement started under the rule of Lyndon B. Johnson, a democrat. Kennedy went on and Nixon, republican, finally ended it as the length of the war, the high number of U.S. casualties, and the exposure of U.S. involvement in war crimes such as the massacre at My Lai helped to turn many in the United States against the war.

Yes...Much like he "forged" his film. Though without the insidious, persuasive artistry of Leni Riefenstahl. That's why she was so deadly effective. Moore has no such talent to abuse. His first film "Roger and Me" was successful only because it was essentially the first time that confrontational technique was used in a documentary setting. If you watch in a post 60-minutes era it is only mildly interesting...A curiosity really. He really has nothing very profound to say other than "life sucks" and it's all because of "rich, powerful people". As a lover of film I find him profoundly offensive and lacking artistic integrity. There are so few documentary filmmakers, it's adifficult, almost niche medium...An oscar is a highly coveted prize that leads to potential funding for other projects. Well, that's another separate discussion. regards...lainde

Still I think there is some truth behing his message that a lack of gun control causes the death of hundreds every year.
