Wesley Clark, who abandoned his bid for the presidency, plans to endorse Democrat John Kerry, according to Democratic officials.

Clark spokesman Matt Bennett would not confirm the endorsement, but said, "Gen. Clark is looking forward to going to Wisconsin to be with Sen. Kerry" on Friday.

Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the retired Army general would make a formal endorsement at a campaign stop in Wisconsin, which holds its primary Tuesday.

Clark dropped out of the race for the White House on Wednesday, a retired four-star general unable to command significant support as a first-time presidential candidate. He coupled his withdrawal with words of praise for his remaining rivals -- Kerry, Sen. John Edwards and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.

"They're good men, they're good Democrats and they're good patriots," said Clark, who decided to abandon his quest after finishing third behind Kerry and Edwards in Democratic primaries Tuesday in Virginia and Tennessee. "Our country is well-served" by them, he added.

Clark, a 59-year-old career military man, burst onto the campaign last fall, supplanting his more experienced and better-known rivals at the top of the polls and demonstrating significant fund-raising ability.

The commanding general in NATO's war in Kosovo in 1999, Clark anchored his political appearances with a pledge of "a higher standard of leadership" and spoke to campaign audiences often of service, duty and honor.

But his political inexperience showed -- he articulated diametrically opposed positions on the war with Iraq within days of announcing his candidacy, for example, and was constantly refining his position on abortion.

Beautiful. After sticking a knife in Kerry's back, Clark endorses him. Et tu, Brute?

Hmmm...this puts some question on the Drudge story, it seems to me. I was nervous when this alleged infidelity broke on Drudge, and linked to Clark, too.

I think everyone may well have jumped the gun on this whole thing. Could be some embarrassed folks shortly.

Do you think the swarmy press will ask Clark to comment on his reported statements last week?

Classic Clinton duplicity. Clark drops the dime on Kerry with his philandering. Then......Clark endorses Kerry. The condemned ate a hearty meal! Lando

I can see it now, at the endorsement presser:

"...and that's why I throw my support behind my fellow soldier, John Kerry! Thank You."

He steps from the podium, and his cell phone rings.

"Hello? Oh, Hi Mary! What? You've been trying to reach me all day, why? Uh-huh... Kerry did WHAT?! OH, Sh*t! Mary Help!"

Rush said that at least 3 reporters have said they personally heard Clark make the accusation about Kerry. I see my post was edited due to profanity....I'm not sure what I said that was profane...I've seen much worse. Whatever. lol
