One thing that hasn't changed for me as a result of this revelation is my Catholic heritage. I am a believing and practicing Catholic, married to another believing and practicing Catholic. And being an American Catholic at this particular moment in history has three particular implications for my own point of view as a candidate for presidency.
The first two follow directly from the two great commandments set forth in the Scriptures: our obligations to love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds and to love our neighbors as ourselves. The first commandment means we must believe that there are absolute standards of right and wrong. They may not always be that clear, but they exist, and it is our duty ti honor them as best we can.
The second commandment means that our commitment to equal rights and social justice, here and around the world, is not simply a matter of political fashion or economic and social theory but a direct command from God…Christian bigotry and intolerance are nothing less than a direct affront to God's law and a rejection of God's love.
There is a third facet of being an American Catholic. To a larger extent than Catholics elsewhere, we have supported and relied upon the constitutional principle of the separation of church and state to guarantee our right to worship and our liberty of conscience. That tradition, strongly advanced by John F. Kennedy in his quest to become our first Catholic president, helped make religious affiliation a nonissue in American politics. It should stay that way." Couple of questions:
-- Did he get the married annulled? (Or is he "just" divorced?)
-- On what grounds did get, or try to get, the marriage annulled?
-- Why did he insist on an annulment, as opposed to "just" a divorce? Was he planing on marrying another Catholic?
-- Also, I've heard that it was his wife, sick of his infidelities,that started to ball rolling. Is this true or was he the first one to contact the lawyer?
Kerry on abortion: "I would never have an abortion myself (I'm Catholic!), but why should I deny others the right to kill their unborn children?"
Kerry on gay marriage: I do not support marriage for homosexual priests. It's a deeply-held religious issue for me. If I have to quit my job over this, so be it!
Kerry is no more a Catholic than I am a Jew, and he's no more a Jew than I am a Muslim.
So, what's his name again? Ah yes, John Kohn. Hmmm, Con John for short.
Perhaps this: If you have a nuisance fire hydrant in front of your house that interferes with your parking, by donating 50k, they'll arrange to have it moved for you.
You know...Catholicism is not some secretive cult which has secret teachings. The teachings of the Church are in the public record. John Kerry has not merely dissented from Church teaching privately as part of some private opinion. He has done so publicly, aggressively, and with brazen arrogance. He must, therefore, be admonished publicly and directly by his bishop. Since Kerry is from Massachusetts and has promoted the culture of death in Washington, it is the solemn duty of Archbishop O'Malley and Cardinal McCarrick to admonish Kerry for his grotesque errors and disobedience. As long as Kerry seeks to promote the culture of death in public and to lead others into scandal and grave mortal sin, O'Malley and McCarrick have the duty to seek sanctions against Kerry and inform him publicly that he is not a Catholic in good standing as long as he persists in his demented and deranged ideological crusade on behalf of the culture of death.
If these bishops fail to do so, the blood of innocents slaughtered under a Kerry regime and a Kerry Supreme Court will be on their hands. God help them.
I have to agree. I don't see any way around it.
With all due respect, Mr. Kerry, cut the crap.
