STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

The President and Mrs. Bush and the entire Bush family are deeply saddened by the passing of Spot. A loyal and loving companion, Spot was a beloved member of the Bush family for nearly 15 years. She will be missed.

First dog I owned in 1993 was a mutt who was abandoned by the owners in a dumpster as a puppy. I had taken a bag of garbage into town and opened the dumpster lid, heard a few wimpering sounds and I dug around and found a lil black mutt dog that at that time looked ugly as sin, but she captured my heart, and I took her home and she become my little shadow for the next 6 years. She died in 1999 from complications of kidney and liver failure.

One of my favorite things about GWB is how he obviously loves his dogs.

Spot was Pres. George W. & Laura's dog who was born in the White House in 1989 to Millie (First Lady Barbara Bush's dog). Spot always road in the pickup with the President on his ranch in Crawford. Spot had not been in good health for some time now and when you would see him he never ran or was playful. He was just old (15) & tired. Spot will be missed and I know the Bush family is grieving today.

Hi Howlin!

I can't believe I'm actually crying...I remember Spot's cheeky behavior when GB was first elected...I think GB had a band aid on his face and was being harangued at the ranch by a bunch of reporters due to the Florida fiasco. Spot was running around...and GB was saying "Spot!, Spot come here"! It was funny bc I was thinking who or what is Spot? And I see this adorable doggie.....

I just love the fact that this dog was born and died in that White House.

No more loyal puppy than rescued ones IMHO...

Our first was a stray we got from the pound...for the first month she kept trying to dash out the door anytime anyone opened it...finally, she decided we were the family she wanted to adopt....she gave us 13 years of devotion, loyalty, happiness and love.

I got my second stray in June of 03...her first two weeks in the house, she would do nothing but sit on the couch and look at everyone...we thought she had a problem...then gradually she started warming up to everyone...

...now, I can't even sit at this computer without having to share the chair with her....she understands when I leave for the morning for work..but on the weekends, if I leave to go to the store or run an errand, she'll cry and wimper until I return.

That's my favorite picture of W and Spotty.

It is one of the worst pains to suffer, the loss of a pet. This is dedicated to Spotty and to the two I lost this year. Coco and Maverick........(my loves) and to my new guy Jack whom I rescued from a terrible life.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

I haven't gotten another dog yet. For a while we still had our other dog. About the time he died, we moved to a place that wasn't as "pet friendly". Now I could get another, and I may this summer, but I don't want to do it now while I'm working.

I think having two is a good idea.

That was 'EggsAckley' my response. I'm not much of a dog lover, but we lost our 11 year old rabbit last year, so I know what they're going through. It's amazing how attached we get to these little creatures.

Howlin, the picture of George and Laura with Spot in the pickup is one of my favorites. I know that Dubya's heart is breaking today.

My mom and dad's dogs (a westie terrier and a corgi) are like that! They both put on these long faces and walk around with their heads hanging when they see mom and dad lining up the suitcases by the front door, cuz they know my folks are going on a trip. So, I go over there and stay with the two dogs and keep them company, and they quickly forget the folks are gone, and are really surprised and just brimming with joy when the folks get back home. Most of the time while the folks are gone and I'm babysitting the "boys", the corgi (Gizmo) keeps a squeeze toy thats in the shape of a portly pig, in his mouth and squeezes it. The westiy (Toby) teases him, and Gizmo just squeezes faster and harder. LOL

I have two, this is the female, Madison. She's 5 and he's (Oskar) is 4 and we have a 17mo son. I truly dread the day either of them dies.

LOL Gizmo sounds like Daisy...she has 4 squeezy toys, but her most favority is a rabbit with elastic in the middle that stretches...my 5 y/o niece and Daisy play "Keep the Bunny away"....she will let anyone touch her other 3 toys..but only Sheyene can touch her "rabbit"..LOL.

She is alone most of the day with my elderly mother (good companionship), so I think she is need of a playmate.
