Have you heard the story that says that our pets are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for their owners? We had to put our cockapoo down several years ago and we still miss that mutt. We thought she was the smartest dog ever. She loved scrambled eggs but they had to be put on a plate then to her doggie bowl. We had no idea why she would not eat them if we put them from the pan to the bowl. The First Family will truly miss their dog friend.

I love the shots of the dog with the Secret service or guard detail.... So much formality looks out of place with a dog around...

Oh dear...I remember Spot now....Spot was a son of the elder Bushs' dog, if I remember correctly.

Spot had such character.

You just don't get a better friend than a dog. It's gonna kill me when my Shepherd goes. He's only five, so I have time, but I know I'll be wrecked. My sympathy Mr & Mrs President.

Well, bless her heart. Always hard to lose the family pet.

They are part of the family, just as much as a child is ...

Great photo and yet another reason I am fond of GWB. Bill Clinton can only wish. Clinton did it for effect. GWB is the greatest President in my lifetime. It will be very sad to see him leave in 08.

One of my favorite pictures of Spot is of her in the Oval Office while the President is working at his desk. The sun is shining through the window and making patterns on the floor, while Spot is lying, patiently, at his feet.

Which Bush family members lost their dog? George and Barbara or George and Laura?

Spot was George and Laura's. Spot was born from the famous Millie who belonged to George and Barbara, and Spot was born in the WH during that era.
